Dimitri genuinely admired Zoe. As for the people behind him, their true feelings didn't matter. They were his to command, and none of them would dare to contradict him.
Zoe never cared about status or reputation—she'd earned those with her own hands long ago. Looking down at Dimitri, she said coolly, "I don't care about this place. But my help today comes with conditions. You must agree to three things."
"Name them."
"First, no inhumane organ trafficking. Second, drugs are strictly off-limits. Third, any Clusian cultural relics that appear at underground auctions must be acquired at any cost and returned to Clusia."
The third condition was Zoe's special consideration for Shawn. She knew how much this meant to him, which is why she made the request. As she looked up at Shawn, unmistakable satisfaction shone in his eyes—just as she expected.
Dimitri said solemnly, "Understood. Whatever you command, I will obey—no exceptions."
With the matter concluded, Zoe and Shawn quietly departed without seeking recognition, leaving the consolidation of territory entirely to Dimitri.
After leaving Kadeem's territory, Zoe sat in the passenger seat and rolled down the window, letting the chilly wind tangle her hair. She glanced at Shawn and teased, "So, are you still happy with how things turned out today?"
Shawn said coolly, "How did you know I care so much about the national treasures?"
"Maybe I can read you like a book," Zoe teased, her tone deliberately playful.
Shawn jammed on the brakes, bringing the car to an abrupt halt. Before Zoe could even retract her smile, he cupped her face and claimed her lips in a searing kiss—one for his hidden feelings, one to celebrate their success, and one for her thoughtful understanding.
Breathless from the kiss, Zoe was finally released. Her cheeks flushed, and she looked at Shawn, thinking to herself, 'What's going on? When did this ascetic suddenly turn into such a lustful beast?'
Zoe hadn't learned that he couldn't resist her after their first night.
With everything settled in the exclusive district, it was time for them to leave. Dimitri proved invaluable—just before their departure, he helped Shawn capture the fugitive he'd been pursuing.
Shawn returned to Clusia on a mission. Zoe had originally planned to accompany him, but now that their relationship was more than just ordinary, she decided to keep a low profile and took a separate flight home, thus dodging the inevitable media attention back home.
Upon returning to Clusia, Zoe found the country abuzz with stories of Shawn's heroic cross-border exploits. With a faint smile, unfazed by the hype, she slipped straight into her subordinate's car.
Medusa noticed Zoe was in a good mood and playfully teased, "So, Boss, was the legendary warrior as good as he looks?"
Zoe had been perfectly composed until Medusa's crude remark nearly made her crush her phone screen in shock.
Medusa teased, "Stop pretending, Boss. With that sweet vibe radiating off you, if you two haven't made out, I'll eat my hat!"
"Yeah, sure," Zoe admitted bluntly.
The car screeched to an abrupt halt, nearly sending Medusa's head crashing into the windshield. She stared in disbelief and blurted out, "Wait, did I hear that right? You're actually admitting it just like that?"
Zoe didn't see any point in surprise and said coolly. "What's there to admit?"
Medusa swallowed hard and grinned, teasing, "Boss, did you dominate this, or was it the other way around?"
"Curious?" Zoe smiled.
Medusa nodded eagerly, her eyes sparkling with mischief. 'A total catch like Shawn? Any woman would be drooling over him. Boss really hit the jackpot this time,' she thought.
Zoe didn't answer. As for who actually dominated, she had absolutely no intention of sharing that with anyone. Some things were better kept to herself.
Medusa studied Zoe's every reaction, growing uneasy. 'Does the Boss even remember her old vow? Is Shawn still marked for death?'
In the end, Medusa said nothing. 'Maybe not reminding her is for the best,' she thought.
