After hanging up, Zoe instructed Medusa to drive straight to Marlowe Group. On the way, she quickly caught up on the situation back home and understood why Emmett needed her—Aileen came again.
Meanwhile, when Sophia found out that Zoe had returned to Clusia unscathed, she flew into a rage and smashed a vase in fury.
She immediately called Eunice in Merilunia. "What the hell happened? I told you to take Zoe out while she was overseas—so why is she back in one piece?"
Eunice shot back, "Oh, please. How dare you say that? If it weren't for my quick thinking, we'd have been exposed by now."
Eunice quickly summarized what had happened in the exclusive district. With Dimitri now in control, if she wanted to take down Zoe, she had to get close to him—otherwise, all her plans would be pointless.
"I don't care how you do it," Sophia snapped. "The only reason I let you out was to take down Zoe. If you can't deliver, I'll cut you off completely and take back everything I've given you."
Eunice used to cower under threats, but now she had nothing left to lose. She sneered, "Your threats mean nothing. You're the one who let me out. If you want to take everything back, I'll gladly drag you down with me.
"Do you really think Shawn would still want you if he ever finds out the truth about you?"
Sophia's face darkened instantly. Never expecting to be threatened by a lowlife like Eunice, she snapped, "How dare you!"
Eunice sneered, "Try me."
'Pushing things too far would only be a lose-lose situation,' Sophia thought. Then she said, forcing herself to calm down, "What's your next move?"
Eunice said, "I've already aligned myself with Aileen Carleton. Now that she's gone to the capital, trust me—my dear sister Zoe is in for a rough time."
Sophia didn't care what Eunice had done—so long as Zoe was suffering, that was all that mattered. "Fine, one last chance," she snapped before hanging up.

"Whatever it takes," she muttered to herself, her voice cold and resolute. "One day, Zoe, I'll get rid of you for good."
As soon as Zoe entered Marlowe Group, Emmett rushed over to greet her. "You're finally here!" he urged. "Come with me to the conference room right away."

"Officially, Boss wants us to wait and see," Emmett continued, "but I think they're specifically targeting Marlowe Group—and maybe even going after you personally."
Zoe asked, "Have you figured out who's behind all this at Marlowe Group?"
He replied, "We've already conducted investigations. It's a multinational company that used to be much smaller than our Marlowe Group. But recently, a mysterious investor injected a huge amount of capital and resources, aggressively taking over and becoming their largest shareholder.
"They've covered their tracks well, and we failed to find out who it is. All we know is that it's a major player from a Merilunian conglomerate."
