Zoe took a cab to meet Medusa, who was at a bar drinking with a group of men. Just as things were getting steamy—with her arms around a decent-looking guy, lips about to meet—a hand suddenly yanked her away.
Medusa was fuming at whoever dared interrupt her flirting, but the moment she saw it was Zoe, she sobered up instantly. "Zoe? What are you doing here?"
"Something's been bothering me. I need to talk to you," Zoe said, her expression grave.
Medusa immediately waved the men away, leaving just the two of them in the private room.
She smirked, "What's wrong? Shouldn't you be getting all lovey-dovey with Shawn right now? What brings you here—did he treat you poorly? That's unacceptable. Just say the word and I'll go teach him a lesson for you."
Honestly, Medusa was truly skilled at manipulating people's emotions—she could lift anyone's spirits with just a few words. But Zoe wasn't here to be coddled like some naive kid. "Shawn took me to visit his parents' graves earlier," she said bluntly.
Medusa raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Seriously? Visiting graves in the middle of the night? Shawn really is one of a kind."
"Then he even proposed to me," Zoe said, her voice laced with disbelief.
"What the hell? He proposed? At a graveyard?" Medusa nearly choked on her drink, coughing violently. She looked like she'd seen a ghost—no one would do this at a graveyard.
Medusa asked, "You didn't say yes, did you?"
Zoe shook her head, a hint of uncertainty in her eyes. "I'm just... a little confused," she admitted.
Zoe recalled why she'd gotten close to Shawn in the first place. But after all this time together, things between them had gotten... complicated. The truth was, she no longer wanted to kill him.
Even at the cemetery, she'd briefly thought about making her move—only to realize she couldn't. It was as if some invisible force was restraining her actions, overriding her killer instincts.
Medusa chuckled as she saw Zoe finally confront the issue. "If you don't want to kill him, then don't. After all, it was your stubborn decision from the start—none of us ever forced you to assassinate Shawn."
"But I'm Firefox," Zoe muttered through clenched teeth. "I swore in front of everyone—how can I break my word now?"
Medusa poured Zoe a drink and handed it to her with a sly smile. "Drink this first, and I'll show you what sets Shawn apart from everyone else."
Zoe shot Medusa a wary glance and then downed the drink.
Just then, Medusa brought in a handsome man. Though he couldn't hold a candle to Shawn, he still stood out in the crowd. With a sly grin, Medusa told him, "Take good care of her, and I'll give you a handsome reward."
Hearing this, the man strode straight toward Zoe, but before he could even get close, she sent him flying with a powerful kick. He crashed to the floor, howling in pain.
Medusa burst out laughing, then waved for someone to haul the man away. Once the room was quiet again, she turned to Zoe with a knowing smirk. "Now do you get it?"
Zoe stared at Medusa, a realization dawning. 'If it weren't for Shawn, I'd recoil from anyone else getting close... Is that what she's trying to show me?'
Medusa said with a knowing smile, "Life's like that, Zoe. Don't overthink it—just go with your gut. That's how you truly live without regrets."
Zoe was lost in thought.
Medusa grinned, raised her glass, and said, "Come on, let's drink up."
Meanwhile, Sophia happened to be at the same bar, though she and Zoe didn't cross paths. In a private room, a group surrounded Sophia, all eager to badmouth Zoe and vent on her behalf.
"That woman is utterly shameless—how dare she make Sophia so angry!" one of them fumed.
"Absolutely! We should totally teach Zoe a lesson," another chimed in.
"Hey Sophia, guess what juicy gossip I just heard? Wanna know?" one man asked.
Sophia turned to the man. "What gossip?"
"I heard someone's been targeting the Marlowe Group lately. Today, they even brought a whole crowd to stir up trouble at their headquarters."
