Chase pulled out his phone, found a romantic drama clip, and handed it to Shawn. "Watch this, and it should help. We'll handle the rest," Chase said, then went off to make arrangements.
Shawn opened the phone and watched the video. On screen, a man had a woman pinned against the wall, saying, "Where do you think you can run? The only place you belong is by my side."
Shawn fell silent. 'This is supposed to help me win Zoe over?'
Zoe stepped out from work only to see a car pull up right in front of her. Not wanting to see Shawn just yet, she immediately made to turn away.
But just as she was about to find an exit, two men stepped in front of her, blocking her path. One of them said directly, "Ms. Evans, we were sent by Mr. Luther. He'd like to invite you somewhere."
Zoe frowned. 'What's Chase up to?'
"Relax, we just need you to come with us," the man added.
Zoe trailed after them to the car.
Chase promptly got out of the vehicle, held the door open, and said, "Ms. Evans, please get in."
Zoe scanned the car. Noticing Shawn wasn't there, she turned to Chase. "Did Shawn send you?"
Chase shook his head. "Nope, it's us who want to invite you. Come on, just do us this favor, will you?"
Zoe had long seen through Chase—he was clearly doing Shawn's bidding. So she simply played along and got in the car.
Once in the car, Chase immediately said, "First off, I need to apologize to you on behalf of Mr. Ludwig. How could he be so clueless about romance and propose to you in a cemetery? That was completely unacceptable."
Zoe's lips twitched. 'So Shawn actually learned his lesson and even told Chase about it?'
"We've already given him a proper talking-to," Chase said earnestly. "He's going to make it up to you—he's even prepared a special surprise just for you."
At the mention of a surprise, Zoe felt a flicker of curiosity—what kind of surprise could a clueless guy like Shawn possibly come up with?
As soon as Zoe saw the escape room in front of her, she already had a pretty good idea what kind of "surprise" this was going to be.
"Please, go on in," Chase said with a knowing smile. "He's already waiting for you inside."
'I shouldn't have expected anything from anyone around Shawn,' Zoe thought, shaking her head in resignation.
After entering, a staff member guided her to change into an elegant dress before leading her to the first room of the escape room game. The moment she stepped in, she spotted Shawn, who had also dressed up for the occasion.
"You've finally stopped dodging me, huh?" Shawn walked straight up to Zoe.
"I wasn't avoiding you," Zoe said. "I've just been swamped with things."
Shawn didn't mind. He reached out and took Zoe's hand in his. "Let's head into the first challenge."
'I bet this escape room is horror-themed,' Zoe thought.
But to her surprise, the first "escape room" turned out to be an elaborate candlelit dinner setting—fresh flowers, flickering candles, fine wine, and gourmet dishes. The whole setup looked surprisingly decent.
'If only someone were playing the violin right now, that would be even better,' Zoe thought to herself.
As if in response to her thoughts, a melodious serenade began to play.
Zoe frowned. 'This doesn't feel like an escape room at all—it's more like the perfect date spot. Wait, did Shawn actually figure out romance?'
Shawn pulled out a chair for Zoe, doing his best to act like a gentleman as he gestured for her to sit down.
Zoe glanced around, puzzled. "Isn't this supposed to be an escape room? Are we actually having dinner here?"
