With just one sip, Zoe's keen senses instantly detected the drug's effects—a potent cocktail of stimulants and aphrodisiacs.
For most people, there wouldn't be any obvious symptoms at first. But about thirty minutes later, they'd suddenly feel unbearably hot, lose all composure in public, and become incredibly strong. Essentially, it was a notorious drug men used against women.
"Who would give me something like this right before the competition?" Zoe thought, her eyes narrowing. "If I weren't already poison-proof, this might have actually worked."
Realizing what had happened, she swiftly inserted needles into several acupoints, rapidly accelerating her metabolism. Fortunately, she'd only taken a sip—the drug compounds hadn't fully entered her bloodstream yet.
Just to be safe, Zoe stimulated a few more acupoints to force herself to sweat. Within moments, the drug components were completely flushed out through her pores.
Shawn watched Zoe go through it all in silence. Only after she finished did he quietly take out a tissue and gently wipe the sweat from her brow.
Zoe glanced at him. "Don't you wonder what just happened to me?"
"No matter what, I won't let you get hurt," Shawn replied softly.
Zoe smiled and, from the corner of her eye, caught sight of Aileen in the opposite box. 'So it was her behind this,' she thought.
She then deliberately slipped her arm around Shawn's neck, pulling him closer. To make her act more convincing, she tugged at her collar and fanned herself, perfectly mimicking someone overheated from the drug.
Shawn watched Zoe's performance unfold. When she kissed him, he played along—lowering his head and taking control of the kiss.
Aileen had been hoping to see Zoe embarrass herself, but instead witnessed the steamy scene of the two locked in a passionate embrace right across from her. It looked like they were about to put on a real show.
Unable to stand it, Aileen shouted, "Zoe, the competition is about to start. Get to the contestants' waiting area."
Shawn immediately realized Aileen was targeting Zoe. He leaned in and whispered in Zoe's ear, "Need me to handle her?"
"It's alright. She's just a pathetic clown—not worth our time," Zoe said and lightly kissed the corner of his lips. "Wait for my victory."
"Okay."
Zoe pulled back, stood up, and made her way directly to the contestants' lounge on the first floor.
Watching Zoe leave, Aileen finally breathed a sigh of relief.
No sooner had Zoe entered the waiting area than Harry arrived with a medical team. "Ms. Evans," he announced, "you've been reported for suspected doping before the competition. Please come with us for testing."
Zoe had seen this coming. With a calm, composed smile, she said, "Accusations require solid evidence."
"That's exactly why we're here—to collect evidence. You will comply with the procedure," Harry stated.
Zoe asked coolly, "How long will it take to get the results?"
"Rest assured, Ms. Evans. This absolutely won't delay your competition. We've brought the latest equipment, and you'll get the results in just half an hour," Harry replied.
Zoe stood her ground, refusing to back down as the crowd cast her strange looks.
The contestants started whispering among themselves, accusing Zoe of cheating.
"This woman is quite shameless."
"I can't believe she would dope in a competition like this?"
"Only someone who can't stand losing would stoop to such dirty tricks."
"What a disgrace to her own people."
Zoe didn't bother defending herself, knowing this was all a setup. Whether they tested her or not, the results would "prove" she'd taken performance enhancers.
"Testing me alone is unfair. Why don't you test everyone together?" she challenged.
Harry's patience snapped. "Look, you've been reported."
"Then I'll report everyone here," Zoe shot back.
Harry was at a loss for words. He'd come to investigate Zoe based on someone's report. But if she accused the other contestants, then according to the rules, they'd have to be tested too.
