"Just you wait and see. I'll prove myself in the Hunter Tournament."
"I'll outlast you all. Can't wait to see the day your so-called glory gets nailed to the Wall of Shame."
"Damn you, Clusian bitch. You'll pay for what you've done."
The entire group was hurling all sorts of insults at Zoe.
Zoe ignored them completely, resting her head on Shawn's shoulder with her eyes closed, as if peacefully dozing. Shawn remained silent, not disturbing Zoe.
He only hoped she could get proper rest. She'd need every ounce of strength to endure the brutal training regimen ahead.
As the vehicle reached its destination, a drill instructor in camouflage stood before the group, holding a dog on a leash.
As soon as they got out, they saw the dog panting, its tongue lolling out.
"Look. They've even got a guard dog here."
"Man, I could eat that mutt for lunch."
A few trainees started mocking the dog.
Without hesitation, Ryan Murray, the instructor, strode over and delivered a powerful kick to each of them, sending them sprawling to the ground. "Bow and apologize to the dog."
Everyone was stunned. 'What the hell?' they wondered, 'Did he just say we have to bow and apologize to a dog? So this mutt is supposed to be more important than us now?'
"Why are you still standing there? Say sorry." Ryan tensed, ready to strike. However, those trainees were having none of it.
One of the trainees violently shoved Ryan aside, whipped out a dagger from inside his jacket, and lunged at the dog, clearly intent on killing it.
All of a sudden, the dog sprang up and sank its teeth into the man's arm. "Damn it," the man cried out in pain.
He managed to shake the dog off, but not before it tore a bloody chunk of flesh from his arm.
"Damn it. There's no way I can't handle a mere dog." Another trainee charged forward, fist raised, ready to punch the dog away.
But before his fist could connect, the dog lunged and sank its teeth into his neck. In an instant, blood sprayed everywhere; the man dropped dead on the spot.
The crowd froze in shock as the dog committed murder right before their eyes.
Some of them were veterans of the Hunter Tournament. They knew exactly what kind of brutal discipline to expect here. But for most of them, this was their first time here.
They were all seething with rage at the sight.
"Sir, that dog just killed a man. You have to put it down."
"Damn right. Who's gonna protect us then?"
One by one, the trainees stepped forward, demanding the dog pay with its life.
Ryan sneered coldly, "What do you think this is? A kindergarten field trip? This is the Hunter Tournament Camp. You'll be undergoing ten days of live combat training here.
"Anyone who sets foot in here must obey every order. No questions asked. Can't handle it? Then get the hell out."
Furious that Ryan condoned the vicious dog's attack and acted as if it was justified, some of the hot-blooded trainees were ready to confront him on the spot.
Ryan suddenly drew his gun and leveled it at the group. He cocked his gun and warned, "Take one more step and I'll shoot."
The group was boiling with rage.
"We just don't think this dog belongs here," a young man said.
Ryan scoffed, "Then you're even less fit to be here. The door's right there. Get the hell out." He looked dead serious.
The other trainees weren't having it either, demanding answers from Ryan.
Ryan sneered coldly, pointing at the raised national flags. "See those? Those flags stand for you and your country. If you want to quit, fine. Get the hell out right now.
"But your national flag? I'll have everyone here spit on it, then toss it straight into the cesspit."
Ryan sneered, "Let this be clear. You and your country are no better than that flag in the cesspit, disgusting and vile filth."
