One of the hostile trainees glared at Zoe and spat, "You damned Clusian woman, just you wait!"
Another sneered, "I swear you won't walk out of this training camp alive!"
Several malicious trainees directly threatened Zoe.
Ryan, who disliked Zoe, simply ignored the threats and moved on to the next training drill.
Ryan's indulgence gave scheming individuals the perfect opening to exploit the situation. They thought, 'So we can get away with murder here? Now this is getting interesting.'
Zoe returned to Shawn's side. The moment she stood still, she could feel a pair of venomous eyes boring into her back.
"Don't turn around!" Shawn warned.
Zoe glanced at him and asked, "Did you sense it too?"
Shawn said, "They've been targeting you from the start. And now, all of a sudden, there's this Hunter Tournament. No way that's a coincidence."
Zoe kept her gaze fixed straight ahead. She teased, "Shawn, your damn charm is getting me targeted again. So, how are you going to make it up to me?"
Shawn replied, "Five days!"
Zoe asked, "What five days?"
Shwan smirked and said, "If you're giving me a week in bed, then I'll return the favor with five days."
Zoe thought, 'He's a quick learner.' She cleared her throat and said, "Yeah, let's not."
Just then, Ryan barked, "See that table over there? That's the Death Pact. Anyone who wants to take on the next challenge must sign it."
At the mention of the Death Pact, everyone's expressions turned peculiar.
One trainee dared to ask, "Sir, what happens if we refuse to sign the Death Pact?"
"Get out!" barked Ryan.
A heavy silence fell over the group.
Another trainee asked, "Sir, will all the upcoming training drills be this dangerous?"
Ryan said, "The training drills aren't dangerous. The real danger is the daily live combat session."
Before the trainees could react, a group emerged carrying several crates. When the crates were opened, everyone was left speechless.
These crates were packed with weapons of all kinds, from firearms to grenades and combat knives. Everything one'd find on a battlefield was right here.
Ryan barked, "These are your weapons. Next up: a five-minute free-for-all! No rules, no mercy. Fight to the death!"
Hearing this, some trainees paled, their instincts screaming at them to retreat. They thought, 'Fight to the death? No way in hell we're doing this.' But they simply couldn't bring themselves to leave.
A quick-witted trainee called out, "Listen up, everyone. Rules are rigid, but people are flexible. As long as none of us goes for the kill, we can all finish this mission together."
Ryan sneered coldly. He raised a commanding finger and said, "Ten of you must be eliminated before this mission ends, or we'll randomly execute ten of you as an example to the rest!"
A terrified silence fell over the group. No one dared to breathe. They realized the Hunter Tournament was destined to end in bloodshed.
Someone shouted, "Let's go!"
The trainees scrambled to grab their weapons and gear. They thought, 'Either you take them out, or they'll take you out. Ten people. Piece of cake.'
Without hesitation, Zoe and Shawn also swiftly armed themselves with weapons and gear. They moved with perfect synchronicity. A single glance was all it took to know they could entrust their backs to each other. They moved as one, an unstoppable force!
Just then, that same venomous gaze lurking in the shadows locked onto Zoe once again.
Although Zoe hadn't yet pinpointed where the danger was coming from, her instincts kicked in before she could even think.
In a split second, Zoe darted to Shawn's side and shoved him out of harm's way. She planted her foot on his arm and launched herself into the air in one fluid motion.
