But since Aileen and Sophia weren't there, all they could do was watch from the sidelines.
Ryan barked, "Are you all a bunch of pussies? If you can't handle it, get the hell out! We don't welcome useless trash here."
Zoe and Shawn were squatting with waterlogged logs on their shoulders, enduring the relentless assault of water cannons.
It was hard to tell if those guys were doing it on purpose, while others only got sprayed once, Zoe and Shawn had to endure three to five rounds of water cannon blasts each time. This wasn't bad luck anymore, it was outright malicious targeting.
But Zoe and Shawn, unfazed by the obvious targeting, pushed through the grueling training with sheer force of will.
At that moment, Zoe once again sensed that hostile gaze. She thought, 'Looks like trouble's coming again.'
Suddenly, a military dagger sliced through the air, aimed straight at Zoe's back.
Shawn was right behind her. He immediately moved to intercept the attack, attempting to catch the blade barehanded.
But with precise timing, Zoe elbowed the dagger's handle, knocking it away mid-flight. Though her sleeve was torn by the blade, she didn't let it disrupt the training drill.
Ryan turned a blind eye. Even though he saw Zoe being attacked, he just pretended not to notice.
Zoe didn't complain.
Once the exercise wrapped up, it was time for dinner.
Shawn moved closer to Zoe, carefully checking her arm as he asked, "Are you okay?" Once he saw she was unhurt, he finally exhaled in relief.
Out of the corner of her eye, Zoe caught sight of that dog watching them. She deliberately slumped weakly into Shawn's arms and said with exaggerated panic, "I was terrified just now!
"Someone in here is trying to kill me. And it's all your fault! You'd better take responsibility for this."
"Don't be afraid. Just give me some time and I'll track them down and eliminate them," Shawn said, his eyes icy cold. He thought, 'Anyone who dares to lay a finger on my woman had better be prepared to die.'
Zoe pointed to her lips and said, "I'm so shaken up. I need you to kiss my fears away!"
Shawn was speechless. He said, "I'll make it up to you later. Let's go eat now."
"My legs just won't work anymore," Zoe whined dramatically, putting on her best damsel-in-distress act.
With a helpless sigh, Shawn had no choice but to scoop her up and carry her toward the tent.
While Shawn wasn't looking, Zoe flashed the dog a cold, mocking smirk.
Aileen shot to her feet, furious. She said, "She's onto us! She's taunting us!"
Sophia said, "Calm down, Aileen. She's just guessing. Otherwise, she would've destroyed the camera on that dog already."
Eyeing Sophia skeptically, Aileen said, "Are you sure this person you mentioned is really that capable? Don't tell me they're all bark and no bite. If they can't even take down Zoe, I'll be the one paying the price."
Sophia sighed helplessly. She said, "It's only the first day. There will be progress soon."
That night, Ryan put all trainees through the wringer again before finally dismissing them to rest. And it was not over. In the dead of night, tear gas canisters came flying into their room as they slept.
Zoe and Shawn reacted instantly and escaped before the tear gas canisters rolled in. The others didn't have time to escape and were left with snot and tears streaming down their faces, completely unrecognizable as human beings.
After witnessing Ryan's brutal methods, the trainees realized that survival, let alone maintaining any dignity, would be an immense challenge here.
It finally hit them: if they wanted to survive this hell, someone else would have to be "sacrificed."
Zoe became the first target of these ruthless individuals. After all, she seemed like the weakest in the squad.
Zoe and Shawn made their way to the training ground.
Ryan stood there, dagger in hand. A chilling smirk played on his lips as he stared all the trainees down. He said, "Looks like you've finally figured out what your purpose here is. Stay sharp. The real fun is just beginning."
Before anyone could figure out what was happening, they saw Ryan grab a trainee and drag him right up to the edge of the cesspool.
