At that moment, a figure finally crept up to Zoe in silence. With a sharp tear, the blade sliced through her clothes.
Zoe deliberately didn't dodge, letting the knife cut through the fabric and pierce her skin. Blood instantly bloomed across the torn opening.
"Shawn, help me!" Zoe cried out deliberately, then bolted toward him.
Others saw Zoe being attacked, but not a soul lifted a finger to help her. Only Shawn immediately shoved through the crowd to get to her side.
Zoe, leaning on Shawn for support, let him see the wound on her body.
"How did you get hurt?" Shawn asked, worry etched on his face.
Zoe put on a pained look and said, "Took a kick earlier. I failed to dodge in time."
Seeing Zoe like this, Shawn snapped again.
Zoe knew there were surveillance cameras hidden somewhere in this place. Everything that happened here would be seen by the mastermind behind it all.
Zoe could have easily handled this on her own, but she chose not to. The more jealous the masterminds were of her relationship with Shawn, the more Zoe wanted to make them suffer the slow torment of envy and jealousy.
Sure enough, the two women watching the monitors were seething with rage.
"What the hell does she mean? Why isn't she fighting the killer herself?" Aileen snapped at Sophia beside her.
Sophia was so furious that she was about to lose it. She fumed, "Zoe's such a snake. She won't get her hands dirty, just plays weak to force Shawn into action. How can Shawn not see through her playing the damsel act?"
The two women glared hatefully at Zoe, who was smirking slyly in the corner.
Shawn confronted the assassin, but the man had no intention of fighting him. Before Shawn could strike, the assassin sidestepped around him, making a beeline for Zoe.
The assassin thought, 'Zoe is injured now. It is my prime opportunity to strike. If she recovered even slightly, I would have no chance.' But he didn't realize that an enraged Shawn was far more dangerous than Zoe.
While the assassin was still intent on killing Zoe, Shawn wasted no time, cutting straight across to block his path.
With a thunderous crash, the assassin was sent flying like a ragdoll. Blood sprayed from his mouth as he punched a gaping hole straight through the wall.
This unexpected turn of events made those trainees, who were still banging on the door, want to bang their heads against the wall—literally. They thought, 'If we'd known the walls were paper-thin, why the hell did we keep hammering at the door?'
"Go, get out!" someone shouted.
With the wall now breached, everyone scrambled through the hole to escape.
Only after confirming the assassin he'd sent flying was completely incapacitated did Shawn finally turn his attention back to Zoe.
Zoe's body temperature plummeted from blood loss. If this went on, she'd soon be in danger of hypothermia.
Shawn caught her just before she collapsed. "Can you hold on?" he asked urgently.
Zoe nodded weakly. She said, "I'm fine." But her face was ghostly pale, clearly belying her words.
Shawn thought, 'An uninjured person might endure this. But continuous bleeding drains away body heat. If this continues, Zoe will suffer severe frostbite. It is damage that's irreversible.'
"Stop pushing yourself. We're leaving now," Shawn said firmly. Without waiting for her reply, he moved to scoop Zoe up in his arms and carry her out.
But at that moment, everyone who had run out was herded back inside. Not only that, the whole room was deliberately flooded with ice-cold water. The freezing water soaked them to the bone, making the cold almost unbearable.
Zoe was already in bad shape, and the deluge of ice-cold water made her condition deteriorate rapidly.
Shawn could feel Zoe's body heat plummeting rapidly. The blood loss, combined with the cold, was taking its toll. He couldn't just stand by and watch Zoe die. He urged, "Zoe, give it up! Get out of here now."
