Shawn gave a firm nod. He already had the next move mapped out in his mind.
Shawn and Zoe pushed forward together, weaving through a series of daunting obstacle courses that seemed nearly impossible.
But the hail of bullets showed no sign of letting up. Shawn charged forward through the gunfire, while Zoe improvised cover with whatever she could find against the relentless hail of bullets.
Their flawless coordination left the four foreign adversaries grinding their teeth in impotent rage. 'These damn Clusians are so infuriating!' they thought.
"What the hell? Can't you finish them off after all this time?" Sophia snapped, seething with rage.
Declan said helplessly, "I can't help it. Almost all our firepower is aimed at those two. But you won't let us hurt Shawn, so it's hard to get a clear shot at the target."
Sophia screamed, "I don't care! Kill Zoe now. Before she finishes the competition and ruins everything!"
Sophia no longer cared about Shawn's safety. She rushed forward and snatched the machine gun and determined to take matters into her own hands.
'Spray and pray works better than careful aim,' she thought. With enough firepower raining down, Zoe wouldn't stand a chance.
Declan quickly interjected, "Sophia, this is way too risky! Let the pros handle this!"
Sophia was furious. 'These idiots were just wasting time. I'll do it myself!' she thought.
The would-be sharpshooters quickly realized they were up against the real deal.
It wasn't that they lacked skill. Shawn and Zoe were simply playing in a whole different league.
The sharpshooters thought, 'If this idiot woman thinks we're incompetent, then let her see for herself what real power looks like.'
Through the scope, Sophia watched in disbelief as Zoe flirted with Shawn amidst a hail of bullets, even sneaking a quick kiss on his cheek when he wasn't looking.
That was the last straw for Sophia. 'Damn that Zoe! Damn that Shawn! What does Zoe have that I don't? If he didn't choose me, then they could both die!' Sophia thought viciously.
Sophia had truly lost her mind, recklessly spraying bullets at the two of them. Bullets flew, leaving everyone present utterly dumbfounded.
'This is way too obvious. She's clearly targeting them! If anyone notices, it'll look like premeditated murder,' the snipers thought.
All the elite snipers looked expectantly into the distance, anticipation in their eyes. They wondered if Shawn and Zoe could still pull off another miracle under the relentless barrage from that deranged Sophia.
Zoe's razor-sharp hearing picked up the ominous whine of bullets from afar.
She saw a hail of gunfire coming their way just as they entered an exposed open area with no cover.
'There's no way we can dodge all these bullets with speed alone,' she thought grimly.
Out of the corner of her eye, Zoe spotted those foreign adversaries moving furtively. 'If they're volunteering to die, who am I to deny them?' she thought with cold amusement.
Just as Shawn was about to leap across the six-foot-wide trench, Zoe let out a pained whimper, feigning weakness, just loud enough to be convincing.
Zoe gasped, clutching her side. "Ugh—"
"What's wrong?" Shawn halted immediately, instantly alarmed by her cry of distress. Just then, the lurking mercenaries struck.
They seized the moment when Shawn and Zoe split apart. Three rushed to grab Zoe, while the fourth tangled with Shawn.
All four of them clearly saw the hail of bullets heading their way. But it didn't matter. Their mission was to eliminate Shawn and Zoe anyway. Perfect timing to use them as human shields when things got dicey.
Zoe had long seen through their scheme and was ready to turn it against them.
Shawn, thinking Zoe was injured, set her down only to realize a hail of bullets was coming straight at them.
