Aileen snapped, "What's that supposed to mean? Are you doubting my feelings for him?"
"No, no," Zoe replied playfully. "I just think maybe you don't like Shawn as much as you think you do. Maybe..." Zoe deliberately left her sentence hanging with a mischievous grin.
Aileen looked at Zoe with disdain and said, "Leaving your sentence hanging. Are you afraid of being laughed at?"
"I'm just worried you can't handle it."
Aileen scoffed, tossing her hair. "There's nothing this lady can't handle."
Zoe had been in such a good mood lately that she just treated all of Aileen's antics as a show. After all, none of this could actually hurt me.
"Maybe I'm actually your true love!" Zoe teased with a grin. Zoe's remark had several people in the room stifling giggles behind their hands.
'Well, Aileen claims to love Shawn, but she spends all her time obsessing over her rival. If that's not "true love," I don't know what is!' someone thought.
Aileen was utterly disgusted by Zoe. She's constantly wishing death upon her. 'How could anyone possibly see that as liking her? She's so shameless!' Aileen thought.
Aileen spat, "Just wait! I'm not giving up this easily," then stormed out.
Since she was getting nowhere today, Aileen had no choice but to make a tactical retreat for now.
Just as Aileen left, Shawn walked in with a grin. "You look like you're in a good mood."
Zoe burst out laughing.
Shawn asked with a smile, "What's so funny?"
"I was just thinking," Zoe said with a playful smile. "You and other women always seem to be missing that special spark."
Shawn handed Zoe the fruit he'd brought, a gentle smile on his face. He said, "I don't need anyone else. You're all I need!"
At his words, Zoe threw her arms around Shawn's neck. Zoe asked with a playful smile, "Am I really that important to you?"
Shawn gazed deeply into Zoe's eyes. He looked into her eyes and said, "It has to be you, and only you!"
Zoe blinked rapidly, quickly let go, and tried to slip away. "Shawn's being so serious about this. It's actually making me feel bad for teasing him,' Zoe thought. But Shawn wasn't about to let her slip away.
'Now that you've come right to me, there's no way I'm letting you back out,' Shawn thought. Without giving Zoe a chance to escape, Shawn cupped the back of her head and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss.
Zoe froze for a second, then quickly took control. The kiss got super intense, and when Chase came over to talk business, he couldn't even go in. He just stood there covering his eyes, then quietly left and shut the door for them too.
Zoe needed to recuperate in the hospital for a while, but Shawn couldn't visit her every day. So his men voluntarily took turns looking after her.
But Zoe wasn't pleased. 'Ugh, this hospital stay feels unbearable without Shawn here,' Zoe grumbled to herself. 'I might as well just leave the hospital.'
Just then, Emmett couldn't decide on a major project at Marlowe Group, so he called Zoe for help.
"I'll be right there to handle it." Zoe decided on the spot.
No sooner had Zoe entered Marlowe Group than Aileen came barging in after her. She had people specifically watching Zoe at the hospital, and of course, she'd also planted spies at Marlowe Group.
When Aileen learned Marlowe Group was expecting an important client that day, she deliberately followed Zoe there to sabotage the meeting.
"Zoe, get your ass out here right now!" Aileen shouted. She barged toward the company with her entourage, only to be blocked by the security guards.
But these security guards were no match for Aileen's bodyguards. After barging into the company, Aileen grabbed a megaphone and bellowed. "Zoe, get your ass out here! Stop hiding like a coward!
"You've got the nerve to steal someone else's fiancé, but now you don't even have the guts to show your face? What, feeling guilty now?
"Listen here! A woman like you isn't even worthy of being Shawn's wife. Only I am the perfect match for him!" Aileen sneered.
The noise was so unbearable that people came streaming out one after another to see what the fuss was about.
The important client meeting with Zoe listened to his interpreter's explanation, and his expression instantly darkened.
"Ms. Evans, if there are concerns about your integrity, I'm afraid our cooperation might..."
"Mr. Duke Vazquez, are you sure you want to take what's being said outside at face value?"
Duke remained silent, weighing his response.
