Eunice's heart skipped a beat. She was terrified that Zoe would continue speaking.
Quickly wiping away her tears, she rushed to Zoe's side and turned to face the crowd. "Guys, please stop talking about Zoe. Whether or not it was Zoe who did it, the priority now is to get Mr. Shelton to the hospital as soon as possible," she pleaded.
"Zoe, no matter what you've done, in my heart, you'll always be my sister. Let's go," Eunice said, extending her hand toward Zoe.
As her hand was just inches away from Zoe, with a sudden bang, Zoe raised her arm and slapped Eunice's hand away. Eunice screamed and fell to the ground.
The boys who liked Eunice were extremely upset.
"Hey, Zoe, that's so low. Eunice has been there for you, and you just hit her," one of them shouted.
"No one stops me. I'm going to get justice for Eunice right now," another chimed in.
Zoe, with a look of disdain, quickly stepped forward, grabbed Eunice's hand, and suddenly pulled a silver brooch from her clothing.
Eunice's heart tightened again. "Zoe, what are you doing?" she asked nervously.
As Zoe's silver brooch was about to pierce Eunice's thumb, Herbert and Jacob couldn't bear to watch any longer.
They rushed forward and pulled Eunice away, shouting, "Zoe, what do you think you're doing?".
"Are you trying to make things even more embarrassing? Eunice has been defending you this whole time, and you want to do this to her?" Herbert questioned.
"I'm going to find out if she's the one who poisoned him," Zoe replied firmly.
With a cold laugh, she stared sharply at Eunice. "If you're the one who poisoned him, there will be traces of the poison on you. If I prick your finger, you'll collapse just like Zack did," she explained.
"Zoe, I knew it was you all along. I didn't expect you to go this far. You don't have to deny it, but accusing me is just wrong.
"I have no grudge against Mr. Shelton. Why would I harm him?" Eunice's voice quivered with feigned hurt as tears streamed down her cheeks.
She cried dramatically, as if she had been betrayed.
Everyone in the room felt their hearts wrench at Eunice's display. Her crying was incredibly convincing, and at least Herbert and Jacob were completely swayed.
Jacob roared, "Eunice is your own sister. How can you be so ruthless?".
Zoe simply let out another cold laugh and said dismissively, "Are you done yet?"
Pushing Herbert and Jacob aside, she grabbed Eunice, who was hiding behind them, and lifted her sleeve to reveal her wrist. "Since you're done talking, explain the smell of bitter almonds on your sleeve," Zoe demanded.
"W-what bitter almond smell? Zoe, what are you talking about?" Eunice's eyes darted around nervously.
Zoe's next words made Eunice's eyes widen in shock. "I knew it. You're so careful that you wouldn't make a rookie mistake like not washing your hands after poisoning someone."
"The needle thing was just a bluff. I just wanted to see your reaction. And look at how anxious you got. Now I'm sure it was you," Zoe said, her voice dripping with certainty.
Reaching out, Zoe grabbed a stage light and shone it on Eunice's sleeve. The moment the light hit the fabric, it emitted a bright fluorescent glow. This was the evidence.
"Everyone here must have learned about the atomic fluorescence reaction of hydrides. The traces of hydride on her sleeve glow under the light. This proves that Eunice's sleeve has hydride residue, and it proves that she's the one who poisoned Zack," Zoe announced, her voice clear and logical.
