Before Shawn could finish, Zoe interrupted him. "Mr. Ludwig, don't push your luck. I'm helping you because I like you. Do you really have to say these hurtful things? If I get upset, I might just change my mind."
Shawn fell silent instantly. Zoe nodded with satisfaction. "That's more like it. Liking you is my business, and whether you like me or not doesn't matter to me, right?"
Shawn was momentarily at a loss for words.
After finishing their meal, Zoe sat in Shawn's car. "I've just thought of my first request," she said seriously.
Shawn's motion of starting the car paused, and his expression turned solemn. "What is it?"
"I want you to take me home," Zoe said with a bright smile.
Shawn had expected Zoe to make some outrageous demand. He was taken aback, thinking, 'Is this her first request? So simple?'
Shawn questioned, "I don't make promises lightly. Are you sure you want to use your request on something so trivial?" He was going to take her home anyway.
Zoe spoke earnestly. "How can this be trivial? You're so busy. What if you leave me halfway? Now that I've made the request, you have to take me home. This way, I can spend more time with you."
Zoe put on a proud expression. Shawn felt helpless, thinking, 'When did my promises become so casual?'
However, in that instant, Zoe's innocence touched him, and his heart inexplicably skipped a beat.
On the way, Shawn remained silent, and Zoe, perhaps exhausted from playing, fell asleep in her seat.
Watching her sleeping form, Shawn deliberately slowed down to let her sleep more soundly.
When they arrived at the Evans residence, Shawn didn't wake Zoe immediately but let her continue sleeping.
It was almost dark when Zoe naturally woke up. "Why is it dark?" she asked, rubbing her eyes.
"I saw you were sleeping soundly, so I didn't wake you," Shawn explained.
"Oh no. I'm home so late. My family is going to scold me again. Mr. Ludwig, you should leave quickly, or I'm afraid they'll blame you too." Zoe pretended to be very afraid of the Evans family members and hurriedly got out of the car.
Before she got out, Shawn draped his jacket over her shoulders, worried that she might catch a cold in the cool evening air.
As soon as Zoe stepped out of the car, a harsh scolding came her way. "Zoe, damn it, do you know what time it is? You're representing the honor of the Evans family now. Why are you coming back so late?"
Clara's shrill and cutting voice rang out, full of anger, as if Zoe had done something unforgivable.
The next second, Clara's expression changed when she saw Zoe get out of a luxury car and noticed a man's jacket on her shoulders.
She shouted, "Huh? You dare to be affectionate with a man in public. Zoe, you've really grown some nerve, haven't you? Learning to seduce men now? You're disgracing the Evans family's name.
"If others see this, they'll think we failed to raise you properly. What if this jeopardizes Eunice's marriage prospects?" Clara was extremely displeased with Zoe.
Eunice was Clara's pride and joy, raised to be the princess of Jelonsburg. Clara had groomed Eunice to make significant sacrifices for the family's interests in the future. She would not tolerate anyone tarnishing the family's reputation.
Clara was furious. As she scolded Zoe, she moved to yank the man out of the car. "Damn it, hasn't anyone taught you to keep your distance from men? Do you want to bring shame upon us all?"
"Fine, let's see what kind of man you've been consorting with. Get him out here," Clara said, grabbing a broom from beside the villa to open the car door and see who was inside.
However, before Clara could act, the car door opened first. In the next moment, Clara, the Evans family members, and the butler and maids all saw a tall, imposing figure step out. He was the top man in Jelonsburg and the dream of countless women.
