The first round of the competition was a battle of calculating financial data. The large screen at the venue quickly displayed a set of problematic company financial data.
As soon as the teams received the data, they all began to calculate furiously. After all, this was a challenge that tested one's keenness with numbers.
Among all the teams, Eunice's team was especially calm and composed. The data had to be restored within half an hour, which was almost like cheating for larger teams.
However, it was quite unfriendly to smaller teams. After all, fewer hands would directly affect the speed of restoration. At that moment, Zoe and Mandy were sitting face-to-face in front of a laptop.
After operating for a while, Mandy looked at Zoe apologetically and said, "Zoe, I'm sorry, but I really can't handle this part. I might not be able to help you."
Mandy had already prepared to lose when she joined Zoe's team. But Zoe had other plans. She had a specific purpose for being here, and now was the perfect time to show her skills.
Before she started, Zoe glanced at Shawn, who was sitting in the VIP seats. He was as handsome as ever.
Even from a distance, she could feel his piercing gaze on her, as if he were trying to see through something.
"You don't need to do anything. Just wait," Zoe said softly.
It was actually very difficult to restore a problematic set of data within half an hour. After all, this was a high-level competition, and the traps set within the data could stump even accountants with decades of experience, let alone restore the data immediately.
So when Clara Evans, sitting in the audience, saw Zoe pretending to work on the laptop, she couldn't help but say, "Does she really think she has the skills? She's putting on quite a show. I'm worried she's going to embarrass us badly."
"Sean, why did you let her, who doesn't understand anything, participate in the competition?" Clara questioned.
Ignoring his mother's reproach, Sean simply said, "Since we had two spots, it would be a pity to waste one. Besides, Zoe is also my sister, and she naturally deserves the opportunity."
Even if Zoe wasn't strong enough, Sean didn't want to show favoritism only to Eunice. In any case, the Evans family members didn't think Zoe would win. They just hoped she wouldn't make a fool of herself.
Zoe's speed on the laptop was impressive, but she stopped after just two minutes, seemingly encountering a problem and giving up.
Eunice's team, on the other hand, had already completed the restoration in just ten minutes. This speed was quite astonishing. The remaining teams also finished one after another.
Even the team with only five people submitted their modified data two minutes before the competition ended. Next, all eyes were on Zoe.
Zoe's expression was indifferent as she pressed the submit button at the very last second. But no one cared.
After all, in their minds, she came from a small town and didn't even know what entrepreneurship, business, or competition was. No one believed she could win.
Mandy was already comforting Zoe. "Zoe, don't be afraid. Even if we do embarrass ourselves, I'll be with you."
Zoe glanced at her, thinking, 'Mandy's mindset is pretty good; she doesn't care about winning or losing. I'm confident I won't lose.'
After the judges reviewed the submissions, they quickly made their selection. Teams that had only fixed one or two data points were eliminated on the spot.
In the end, only three teams stood out. Eunice's team had perfectly restored all the data. Another team, led by a young man named Kieran Barnett, had only missed one error.
The first and second places were already decided; the last spot for the third place would determine which team would advance to the second round of the competition.
Everyone in the venue couldn't help but feel nervous. Zoe and Mandy were probably the calmest contestants.
When others saw their attitude, someone couldn't resist mocking them. "See? They already know they're going to be last and have no chance, so they don't care about the result."
"Exactly. Two fools teaming up just to ask for embarrassment, right?"
The crowd burst into laughter, all of it directed at Zoe and Mandy. But in the next second, when Laura announced the results, everyone in the room froze.
"The third place goes to Zoe's team," the host declared. As soon as the words left her mouth, especially those who had just mocked Zoe and Mandy, their faces all turned rigid.
The shock was so profound that they couldn't snap out of their astonishment. Even the Evans family members, who had been watching from the side, were taken aback by the scene.
