Skye gently guided Sophia away, wiping the tears from the corners of her sister's eyes as she gazed down at the girl before her.
At 5'5", Sophia looked so small and fragile next to Skye, who stood 5'7" in heels.
"Sophia, don't cry. What happened? Tell Sis," Skye murmured softly.
Sophia's shoulders shook as she tried to hold back her sobs. She didn't want to cry, but the injustice overwhelmed her—she had so many questions she wanted to ask.
"Everyone said you were dead. You vanished for ten whole years!" Sophia thought. Ten years.
Skye led Sophia into a nearby restaurant and ordered two bowls of noodles.
As the steaming noodles arrived, Sophia gradually calmed down. She wiped the tears from her face and asked, her voice trembling, "Sis, where have you been all these years? Everyone said you... were gone..."
Back then, none of them believed the story about the plane crash. They just couldn't accept that their eldest sister would leave their lives like that.
But after ten years without a single word, they all thought...
Skye looked guilty and explained, "I thought I was done for too. But I survived, was taken in by kind strangers, and lost my memory for ten years. Three days ago, my memories finally came back, and I rushed back without delay to find you."
"Amnesia!" Sophia thought.
All the resentment Sophia had harbored over the years—blaming her sister for abandoning them—vanished in an instant at those words.
It all disappeared without a trace the moment she heard that word.
"Sis, it's our fault, we..." Sophia choked out.
Sophia stared unblinkingly at the beautiful woman before her, terrified she might vanish like a bubble at any moment. Her sister. It was really her sister.
"Alright, now tell me—what's going on between you and Matthew?" Skye asked.
Sophia hesitated, then replied softly, "Sis, he's my ex-boyfriend, but that's all in the past now. Please, come home with me tonight!"
She desperately wanted to keep those humiliating chapters of her life hidden from her sister.
Skye didn't press further. "If she won't talk, I'll find out myself," she thought. "Anyone who bullied my family—death would be too merciful."
Skye stopped in front of the rental building, a look of confusion on her face. "Sophia, you're living here now?"
But their family owned a villa in Silver Lake Estates—why would Sophia move out and rent a place like this?
Did she get a job? Or was she just trying to live independently?
Unable to meet her sister's eyes, Sophia hesitated, not knowing how to explain that she'd been kicked out of the house seven years ago.
How could she possibly tell her that?
"Sis, it's... it's fine here," Sophia said, forcing a smile. "Come on up!"
Skye still followed Sophia upstairs. Just as they were about to open the door, an obese old man shuffled over.
"Sophia, you're behind on rent again! You owe me six months now—add in utilities, that's $1,200. Pay up! And now you're even bringing someone else home?"
Sophia's face went pale. She glanced anxiously between the landlord and Skye, silently pleading for the landlord to stop.
But the landlord just got nastier. "I've been cutting you slack 'cause you're a young girl, always giving you face, but you just don't appreciate it. You look pretty enough, but can't even come up with $1,200? Have you no shame?"
He'd always thought Sophia's innocent looks might get her to agree to a shady deal to wipe out the rent.
But this stubborn girl just wouldn't give in.
Skye caught the lecherous glint in his eyes as he stared at Sophia's legs. Her face turned cold. Sophia was just about to speak.
Skye yanked out a wad of cash and slapped it right in his face.
"Here's $1,400. Get lost if you want to keep breathing!" Skye snapped.
"Y-you! Who do you think you are?" the landlord stammered, staring at the money in a daze.
He still looked like he wanted to say more.
But Skye just led Sophia inside and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Sophia kept her head down, unable to meet the eyes of the sister she'd always idolized. "How can I face her now?" she thought.
Skye didn't ask many questions. She simply set down her luggage, opened the window, and turned on the light.
The appliances and walls showed signs of age, with peeling paint, but the place was cozily decorated—a clear sign Sophia had lived here for years.
Probably several at least.
Sophia had a rather round face and big almond-shaped eyes—just like when she was a kid. Her long hair fell smoothly as she lowered her head.
Skye opened her suitcase. "Do you want to take a shower first, or should I go?"
"Huh?"
Sophia's mind raced, searching for excuses, still thinking about how to explain everything to her sister.
But the word "shower" short-circuited her brain for a moment.
She hadn't expected that question at all—she thought Skye would ask, "Why are you living here?"
Or maybe, "How can the second daughter of the Hughes not even afford a measly $1,200 in rent?"
But when Skye just asked about the shower, all the words Sophia had prepared jumbled in her mind, leaving her completely at a loss.
Skye picked up her pajamas and walked slowly toward her.
Sophia bit her lip, squeezing her eyes shut in fear. "Is Sis going to hit me?"
"I probably deserve it. I'm so useless. After Sis left, I couldn't hold onto anything—I can't even go home. That woman took all of Mom's things, and Dad changed for the worse. I can't seem to protect anything—not even Sis's favorite Strawberry Bear. Even my younger sisters have grown distant from me, and I..."
Instead of the pain she expected, Sophia felt a gentle hand softly stroking her head.
Sophia's eyes flew open, meeting Skye's bright, smiling face.
Bathed in the warm light, she felt it warm her to the core.
Skye said with a smile, "I'll go first, then."
Then Skye walked into the room, leaving Sophia standing there—dazed, a little lost, but utterly happy.
A slow smile curved her lips as she watched her sister's slender, graceful figure.
Sophia sniffled, then stepped inside and began tidying up.
Soon, Skye stepped out of the bathroom, her graceful, long legs leading the way. Her porcelain skin glowed with a rosy warmth from the shower.
A silky white satin camisole draped softly over her figure, shimmering like moonlight and making her look ethereal.
Her thick, slightly wavy chestnut-black hair cascaded down her back, carrying the familiar scent of peach body wash as she approached.
Skye was toweling off her damp hair.
Seeing her little sister staring at her in a daze, Skye couldn't help but reach out and give Sophia's cheek an affectionate pinch.
"Go take a shower," Skye said.
Snapping back to reality, Sophia's face turned crimson with embarrassment, wishing the ground would swallow her up.
"Sis, I..." Sophia stammered.
Skye sat on the edge of her bed, and in that instant, the plain rental room seemed to glow with elegance, as if everything existed just to highlight her beauty.
"My heart was pounding like thunder—Sis is even more beautiful than before!" I thought, completely mesmerized by her alluring curves and graceful figure.
"I really love it."
"She's just so gorgeous, with those perfect lines and that stunning body... Even as a girl, I can't help but be jealous!"
"Seriously, even I'm envious—and I'm a girl!"
"I wonder if any creeps have been eyeing her all these years she's been out there alone."
Just imagining some guy standing next to my beautiful sister made me inexplicably angry.
My cheeks puffed up in frustration, and even after my shower, I was still pouting, looking just like an angry blowfish.
