"Okay, thank you," Skye said calmly.
Felix's lips trembled slightly as he spoke, "Skye, after all these years of friendship, does it mean nothing to you now? With all this 'thank you' and 'help' talk—do you really not see me as a friend anymore?"
Skye gazed at Felix in silence, a flicker of complex emotions in her eyes.
They had known each other since childhood—practically growing up together as good friends.
But as the years slipped by, so much had changed over the past decade—nothing and no one was as they once were.
Felix, once a naive and inexperienced youth, has now grown into a composed and reliable physician dedicated to saving lives.
"Felix," Skye said with a faint smile.
"Hey, let's grab a drink!" Felix said, nudging her toward the door.
Sophia stood nervously outside the office door, peering through the glass at the two inside. "Am I seriously ill?" she wondered anxiously.
Sophia stood by the door, nervously picking at her fingers, her head hung low. Just then, Skye and Felix opened the door and stepped out, finding her waiting there.
Skye reined in the cold glint in her eyes and regained her usual composure.
Felix patted her on the shoulder and said cheerfully, "Alright, girl, you're perfectly healthy—nothing to worry about."
"Really?" Sophia's eyes sparkled, her voice brimming with joy yet tinged with caution. "Am I really okay, both physically and mentally?"
But sometimes she would act out—she even bit her sister," someone added, uncertainty in their voice.
Felix said reassuringly, "You just get a little too emotional sometimes. It's nothing serious—just keep it in check, alright?"
Sophia asked hesitantly, "So... I don't need to take any medication?"
Over the years, she knew she had been struggling with her mental health. Alone in the dead of night, she often found herself on the verge of breaking down—Matthew had become her only emotional anchor.
Skye gently stroked Sophia's hair, her soft voice whispering in her ear.
"Sophia, there's no need. You're perfectly fine."
Sophia bit her lip, her nose tingling with emotion. Her voice trembled as she said, "But last time I... I bit you, and I..."
My sister says I'm fine—I'm not mentally ill, I'm not unclean, I'm not dirty.
Skye reassured her patiently, "That only happened because you were provoked—it's completely understandable. You shouldn't blame yourself. You've already put the person who hurt you behind bars. From now on, you won't have to go through that again. If someone brings it up in front of you, will you still be afraid?"
Sophia shook her head. A vivid image flashed through her mind: Skye smashing a kettle over George's head, then George being handcuffed. With determination in her eyes, she said, "No, sis. I've moved on."
"That's good to hear," Skye said with a gentle smile.
The next day
Sophia went to work as usual. Skye had already learned she was working at Morningstar Inc., some no-name company.
With Sophia's qualifications, she shouldn't be stuck at a no-name company like Morningstar Inc. Is there something more to this?
Skye leaned on the desk, rubbing her temples. "Lauren."
"Ms. Sky," Lauren said, "here's Miss Sophia's file. Our investigation has found that someone has been deliberately targeting her."
Skye's eyes snapped open. She grabbed the file and scanned it—Sophia had graduated three years ago, paying her own tuition and living expenses for all four years of college by working part-time. [Skye thought] "Richard, you truly are something else."
"Olivia Quinn...who's that?"
Lauren noticed Ms. Sky pause at the name Olivia and quickly explained, "Ms. Sky, Olivia is the eldest daughter of the Quinns. Three years ago, when Matthew was dating Miss Sophia, Olivia strongly opposed their relationship and pressured Sophia to break up. When Sophia refused back then, Olivia started targeting her on purpose, using her connections to have many companies blacklist Sophia's job applications."
Skye's gaze darkened. "Olivia... that name rings a bell."
the Quinns is a pretty solid company in Capital City. Businesses in the city are divided into three tiers: the top tier is made up of the Four Corporate Houses; the middle tier includes the Top Five Enterprises (the Quinns among them); and the rest are countless smaller companies. But Matthew's branch of the family actually falls into the lower tier.
As one of the Top Five Enterprises with nationwide influence, no wonder Olivia dares to target others so brazenly.
"Remind the Quinns there's still a pending deal I haven't signed. Let them know—I'm in Capital City now, and I'll handle it personally."
"Alright, Ms. Sky," Lauren continued, "what about Miss Sophia?"
Skye said, "That small company was the only one to throw my sister a lifeline when she was at her lowest point. Let's acquire it under our name."
Lauren understood perfectly. That no-name company really hit the jackpot—getting acquired by Ms. Sky's group was pure luck.
"Yes, Ms. Sky," the assistant said. "I'll assign someone to handle it right away. Also, Ms. Sky, your wife has been trying to reach you and asked that you return her call when you have a moment."
"Got it. You may leave now," Skye said, waving her hand dismissively.
"Yes, Ms. Sky."
Skye stood by the window, clad in a wine-red cheongsam with a daring slit, gazing down at the sprawling Capital City below.
Sophia returned to work with an entirely transformed aura—radiant, full of energy, and her beaming, optimistic smile was downright infectious. She tackled every task with unstoppable energy, her joy radiating from her very being.
One of Sophia's coworkers couldn't help but nudge her and tease, "Sophia, you're glowing like a blooming flower—all smiles and radiance! Is something good about to happen?"
