Skye's bone-chilling voice struck Lily, Lulu, and Eric like a thunderbolt.
Skye said coldly, "Don't worry. In prison, you'll each be making your 'special contributions' to society every month."
Hearing this, the three immediately realized what she meant—she was going to subject them to monthly blood draws! Their faces turned ashen at the horrifying prospect.
Skye grew more disgusted with Matthew with every passing second. Suddenly, she lashed out and delivered a vicious kick to his abdomen.
Matthew let out a muffled groan as Skye's stiletto heel slammed into his stomach, sending him crumpling to the ground. Beads of sweat broke out on his forehead—he couldn't tell if it was from the pain or the fright. "Is it the kick that hurts so much, or am I just scared out of my mind?" he wondered.
Skye shot Matthew a cold glare. "Don't think you're off the hook just yet, Matthew. Your real troubles are only beginning," she warned.
Skye's eyes flashed with determination as she turned to leave with Sophia, leaving the rest for Lauren to handle.
The police marched all four away in perfect order.
Matthew refused to back down. "I'm the eldest son of the Quinns," he thought arrogantly. "So what if Skye is the Hughes heiress? Their family can't even compare to ours now. If she dares to cross me, she's challenging the entire Quinn Group!"
"He'll make her pay for this," Matthew vowed, his eyes burning with rage.
Skye lowered her head and whispered, "Am I just a burden? I keep making you worry about me..."
Sophia hung her head in shame. "I'm so useless," she thought bitterly. "I always end up needing Skye to bail me out."
Skye gently ruffled Sophia's hair and said softly, "Sophia, I'm your big sister. If I don't worry about you, who will?"
"But..." Sophia hesitated, the words dying in her throat as she met Skye's warm, gentle gaze.
"I'm just afraid Skye will find me annoying," Sophia thought anxiously. "What if she thinks I'm useless and abandons me?"
Big sis, Matthew has a sister—she's the CEO of Quinn Holdings. Could this... could this get us into trouble...?
Before Sophia could finish, Skye cut her off with an imperious wave. "Sophia, the Quinns means nothing to me. With me here, live as boldly as you please—even if you poke a hole in the sky, I've got your back."
A gentle breeze stirred Sophia's hair as Skye's slender fingers gently brushed aside the strands veiling her face.
Sophia gazed at her in silence, her heart hammering wildly in her chest—she just couldn't calm down, no matter how hard she tried.
Before being led away, Matthew shot Lauren a venomous glare and growled, "the Hughes—just you wait! Cross me, and you'll live to regret it!"
Lauren smiled faintly, leaned in to whisper in his ear, "Best of luck, Mr. Quinn."
With Ms. Sky offended, do they really think the Quinns will get off scot-free?
"What the hell do you mean?" Matthew snarled through clenched teeth.
Matthew ground his teeth, glaring at Lauren before him. "Could Skye really have some powerful connections I don't know about?" he wondered.
No way! If she really had any powerful connections, there would've been some sign by now. She's just all bluff and bluster, playing mind games!
Lauren swept an amused glance over him before turning away, her eyes now filled with icy ruthlessness.
Sophia sat obediently in the car, her head bowed as she nervously twisted her fingers together.
Skye was on the phone, speaking in a foreign language Sophia couldn't understand. Sophia kept her head bowed and only looked up after Skye hung up.
"Big sis, I got us a blueberry cake, but..." Sophia said softly, her voice trailing off.
Sophia said softly, "But that jerk Matthew threw it away."
Skye said gently, "Wendy's already prepared dinner. Let's head home and eat."
Sophia nodded, her delicate face lighting up with a radiant smile.
"Okay," Sophia said softly, nodding in agreement.
When the Quinns learned that Sophia had called the police and gotten Matthew arrested, they flew into a rage and immediately phoned Richard to give him a piece of their mind.
Richard was utterly confused at first. It was only after listening to them rant and rave at him that he finally managed to piece together what had happened.
He immediately promised to send his unfilial daughter to the police station to clarify everything, and even offered to personally apologize to the Quinns. Only then did they finally let the matter drop.
After hanging up the phone, Richard fumed with rage. "That damned rebellious daughter! She just got back and she's already stirring up trouble for the family. Does she even realize who the Quinns is?"
Linda poured him a cup of tea, sighed helplessly, and said, "Sophia has really gone too far this time—making such a mess. And Skye isn't much better; as the elder sister, how could she just let her sister make such a mistake? It's normal for the young couple to quarrel, but once things get dragged to the police, both families lose face. The Quinns are growing stronger by the day, and if we Hughes can form a marriage alliance with them, it would bring mutual benefits to both sides."
Richard grew angrier by the minute. "Those two rebellious daughters of mine are getting more audacious by the day!" he fumed. "Just wait until they get home—I'll teach them a lesson they won't forget!"
Just as he finished speaking, a voice rang out from the doorway. "Father dearest, how exactly do you plan to teach me a lesson?" Skye drawled, her tone dripping with mockery.
Dressed in all black, Skye strode in, the gentle and innocent Sophia by her side.
Richard was about to unleash his fury when he met Skye's peerless beauty and those eyes of icy detachment laced with disdain, her entire demeanor radiating superiority. The words died in his throat.
Linda sprang to her feet, her voice sharp with reproach. "You two have gone too far this time! Your usual squabbles are one thing, but dragging this mess to the police station? Skye, don't you realize how vital this marriage alliance is for Hughes Corporation? You're sabotaging the company! Do you even understand what will happen to our family if the Quinns withdraw from the engagement?"
Skye didn't spare him a single glance. Turning to Richard, she stated bluntly, "Matthew kidnapped Sophia and forced her to the hospital for a blood draw. Father, are you seriously suggesting we shouldn't have called the police?"
By now, it was no secret to Richard and the others that Lily was the woman Matthew had always carried a torch for—and that she had even once saved his life.
Richard gritted his teeth and could only manage, "Couldn't you two have just settled this privately? Did you really have to make such a scene and drag it to the police?"
Skye curled her lips into a wicked smirk as she sprawled lazily on the sofa, her posture utterly relaxed and unconcerned.
"This is non-negotiable, Father. Brace yourself. From today on, the list of people I offend will only grow, each more formidable than the last. The first is the Quinns. I'll have someone publicly announce the annulment of the engagement at dawn."
Before Richard could respond, Linda cut in heatedly, "No! How could you do this? The Hughes-Quinn marriage alliance is a golden opportunity—we're marrying up! If you break it off, what about our business partnership?"
Skye fixed Linda with an icy stare. "Let me make this clear: first, it's not your family—it's mine. Second, the company's affairs are none of your concern. I'm the CEO of Hughes Corporation, and from now on, I'm resuming control."
Hughes Corporation was her mother's life's work—Skye would never abandon it.
"Absolutely not!" Richard sprang to his feet and roared.
Skye let out a cold, mocking laugh, her eyes sharp with scorn. "Whether it's possible or not isn't your call. Father, I don't want to make things ugly—you know perfectly well how it is."
With that, Skye took Sophia's hand and led her away to dinner.
Linda's face twisted in fury, her heart pounding with anxiety as she frantically tugged at Richard's sleeve.
Linda snapped, "Say something, Richard! Are you really going to let that brat take over Hughes Corporation? Don't forget—it's yours now! You're the one in charge!"
"All my people are still at Hughes Corporation. As soon as Skye takes over, she'll never stand for them—she'll definitely purge every single one!" Linda thought anxiously.
Richard shook off her hand in frustration, knowing full well he was powerless to change things. Skye was iron-willed and her methods were formidable—he knew better than anyone he was no match for her.
After all, the CEO position at Hughes Corporation legally belongs to her—her name is on the ownership documents. Richard was merely holding it in a temporary capacity.
Once she comes back, even if she raises hell all the way to God himself, this company will still be hers.
He owns just one percent of the shares!
What say do I even have?
Richard knew Skye all too well. If he provoked her now, she wouldn't hesitate to slap him across the face. Cold-blooded as she was, family still mattered to her.
Linda couldn't believe how utterly useless Richard was. "What does he have besides that pretty face of his? Absolutely nothing. What a worthless piece of trash!" she fumed inwardly.
Linda wanted to hurl venomous words at him, but when she saw his face—still strikingly handsome and refined despite middle age—the words stuck in her throat.
Meanwhile, Linda could only stew in silent frustration, while Skye and Sophia were happily enjoying their meal.
