Richard took a deep breath and said, "Skye, I know they resigned of their own accord, but it was only because they didn't really know you and had concerns about your capabilities. I've spoken with several of them—they're ready to return anytime if you agree. It's not easy to find new people right away. How will Hughes Corporation maintain its operations? You really need to think this through."
Skye fixed her father with an icy, menacing glare, her eyes cold and sharp. "So what you're saying, Father, is that I should beg them to come back?"
Richard coughed twice, deliberately avoiding her piercing gaze as he turned to look out the window.
"I know it's difficult for you to say it, but don't worry—I can talk to them instead," he offered gently.
Skye leaned back with languid indifference and said coldly, "That won't be necessary. Now that you're no longer with Hughes Corporation, don't come here anymore."
With just a few words, Skye left Richard speechless. Rage burned in his chest, his throat tightening. Clenching his jaw, he ground out through gritted teeth, "Skye, I am your father!"
Richard's threat fell flat before Skye. She responded indifferently, "As I've said, you don't have to be my father. Lauren, show him out."
"You—!" Richard stormed out, seething with anger.
Rowan hurried into the office, beaming. "Ms. Sky! The new team has all arrived!"
Perfect.
The former employees loitering at the entrance stood dumbfounded as crowds of people streamed into the building. Only after stopping someone to ask did they realize these were all newly hired staff of Hughes Corporation.
When they heard these were newly hired employees, the former staff panicked completely and were at a total loss. They'd been waiting for Hughes Corporation to beg them to come back—how could the company have already brought in replacements?
No way!
"How could this happen?" they thought.
Linda's inner circle, all former executives at Hughes Corporation, lounged at home sipping tea and bantering smugly. They brazenly plotted what demands they'd make if Skye came begging—double salaries and all sorts of outrageous terms.
When the call came through, the group exchanged smug glances, their faces brimming with self-satisfaction as if everything was going exactly as planned.
A man's voice blurted out in disbelief, "Wait, what? Are you sure you called the right number? You're telling us to come collect our belongings?"
"Shouldn't they be begging us to come back?" he thought in disbelief."Why are they letting them clean out their desks instead?"
"You heard me right, former manager—Samuel Collins. You have until this afternoon to collect your belongings. After that deadline, we will dispose of all remaining personal items."
"Wait, what? Why are you throwing them away?" Samuel exclaimed, his voice full of disbelief.
Because we've already filled this position with a new hire.
Hearing about the new hires, the group sprang to their feet, demanding answers—only to find the call had ended. Refusing to believe it, they stormed into Hughes Corporation, but stood frozen when they saw every position already filled.
Samuel, Linda's uncle, had been throwing his weight around at Hughes Corporation for years. When he spotted a young man occupying his former desk, he flew into a rage, barged in, and immediately started yelling.
Storming over, he glared and snapped, "Who the hell are you? Who said you could sit in my damn seat? Get the hell out of here now!"
The young man adjusted his glasses, completely unfazed. "I'm the Finance Manager of Hughes Corporation. And you are?"
Samuel froze for a moment. He... they had already resigned.
No way! I've held this position for so many years—no one could possibly be more qualified than me!
"I'm the former Manager Lin," Samuel snapped, his voice dripping with disdain. "What makes you think you deserve this seat? Which university did you graduate from? What have you ever achieved?"
Samuel roared.
The young man replied calmly, "I graduated in economics from MSLG University and worked as deputy manager at an overseas firm. I once turned a failing company around, pulling in $3.55 million in revenue in a single month. And that's just the tip of the iceberg—would you like me to elaborate further?"
Samuel was completely shattered, gaping at the young man before him. "No way," he thought, "how could this wet-behind-the-ears kid have accomplished so much?"
"Skye must have just hired some stand-ins to fill the seats," Samuel thought contemptuously. "Hughes Corporation isn't even a major player—how could a place like that possibly attract real talent?"
"I demand to see Skye Hughes! I must see Skye Hughes right now!" Samuel shouted angrily.
"Former Manager Lin, Ms. Sky isn't someone you can just walk in and see. If you refuse to leave, don't blame me for having security escort you out. As I understand it, you and several other staff members resigned voluntarily. Since you've left, you are no longer associated with Hughes Corporation. Please leave immediately."
Samuel continued to make a scene, but two towering security guards swiftly grabbed him by the arms and forcibly dragged him out. He kept hurling curses and shouting obscenities the whole way, until one of the guards abruptly slapped him across the face.
The security guard glared and snapped, "One more word and we won't hold back! Who do you think you are, cursing at Ms. Sky? How dare you—don't you know your place? You're not the first troublemaker we've dealt with; the others all ended up at the police station. Think hard about the consequences. Did you really believe the Hughes Group can't run without you? What a joke! Every new hire here is top-tier talent, a hundred times better than your lot. Be smart and get out while you can."
These people are ridiculous—so full of themselves! Did they really think Hughes Corporation would collapse without them? What a joke.
The Earth keeps spinning even if every single person on it dies.
Just like that, Samuel and his gang were now unemployed. They had no one to blame but themselves—after all, quitting was their own choice. Forced to swallow this bitter pill in silence, they truly understood what it meant to suffer with no one to complain to, and there was no point trying to argue.
As Rowan delivered her enthusiastic report, Skye barely reacted. She glanced at the time—Sophia would be getting off work soon. It was time to pick her up.
Little did Rowan know that Skye wasn't truly listening to her impassioned report—her mind was already miles away.
If Rowan ever discovered that the usually stern and formidable boss could actually space out during her reports, she'd be absolutely floored.
The Quinns were in complete disarray.
Olivia had nearly snatched the Synergy International Group deal, stirring up a storm within the Quinns. But once her scheme was exposed, panic set in—she immediately started plotting her escape overseas, desperate to lay low until the storm passed.
Olivia thought, "I'll have my parents apologize to the Quinns. After all, blood is thicker than water—they wouldn't be so heartless."
But the Quinns cut off all cooperation with them in one swift move. The moment the Quinn Group pulled out, all those business partners—who'd only stuck around out of deference to the Quinns—bailed without a second thought.
Olivia didn't even get the chance to leave the country—Quinn Holdings was already on the brink of collapse.
She had already braced herself for the worst, but this was beyond anything she could have imagined—even with the Quinn Group cutting ties.
Then Quinn Holdings would never have come to such a disastrous end.
Olivia was truly terrified now. Wave after wave of negative news dragged Quinn Holdings into the abyss, with damning scandals surfacing one after another.
Even her dirty laundry was dragged into the light—videos and photos of her school bullying days, along with evidence of her shady business dealings, all started trending on social media. Despite her desperate attempts to suppress them, nothing could be taken down.
An unprecedented cascade of debt crises erupted as Quinn Holdings employees fled en masse.
Olivia's hands trembled so violently she nearly dropped her cup. In just a few short hours, Quinn Holdings had gone bankrupt.
"It feels like there's an invisible hand pulling the strings behind the scenes," Olivia thought, sweat beading on her forehead as a cold chill ran down her spine. She wracked her brain but couldn't recall ever crossing any big shots.
"Other than David," Olivia thought, "I can't recall offending anyone else."
David was stunned when he heard about Quinn Holdings' bankruptcy. "Even if we cut ties with them, that alone shouldn't have caused such a collapse. Someone must have been pulling the strings behind the scenes," he thought.
"Mr. Quinn, Olivia has always been a scheming and ungrateful backstabber. All these years, she acted with impunity because she had our support, making enemies left and right. Honestly, she got exactly what she deserved."
David pressed his palms together, resting them on the desk with a thoughtful expression. "Something's not right. Find out who's behind this."
"Mr. Quinn, are you actually going to help them?"
