Linda was brimming with excitement, humming a tune as she watered the flowers. Her precious daughter would be home any moment now.
"Skye, your arrogance won't last much longer," Linda sneered.
"Your days of bliss are numbered," Linda spat venomously.
Linda thought viciously, "Don't worry, I'll make sure you and Sophia are kicked out for good—never to return. Then you'll learn exactly what happens when you cross me."
Skye swept past Linda, her gaze cold as ice, barely flickering over her.
Linda's face turned deathly pale in terror. The tool slipped from her hand, clattering to the ground and landing squarely on her foot with a painful thud.
Skye didn't utter a word, merely withdrawing her gaze with icy indifference.
Linda gnashed her teeth in fury, thinking, "That damn little witch—she did it on purpose, just to scare me!"
Lauren carefully placed the documents she had found on Ms. Sky's desk. Watching Ms. Sky pick them up, she felt her palms sweat. "Please don't be angry after reading this," Lauren thought anxiously.
Skye pored over every word in the document, her gaze deep and searching. "Jessica?"
Skye thought, "When Jessica left, Emily was barely eight. A decade has passed since then."
"Lauren, these documents are far from complete," Ms. Sky remarked with a slight frown.
Lauren immediately bowed her head and explained apologetically, "Ms. Sky, it's my fault. Since Miss Emily has been staying with Jessica all this time, there are a lot of things I just couldn't find out about..."
Skye set down the documents and asked, "What about the other one?"
"Ms. Sky, about Miss Charlotte..." Lauren answered nervously, her voice trembling.
Before she could finish, a knock came at the door. It was Rowan.
"Ms. Sky, something terrible has happened to Miss Sophia!"
Skye sprang to her feet and strode out of the room. "What happened?" she demanded.
Rowan, not daring to hide anything, reported nervously, "Anna took Miss Sophia to a business conference. Everything was fine at first, but on the way back, something suddenly triggered Miss Sophia and she bit Anna. She's now hospitalized in critical condition."
Skye immediately called Felix and sped to the hospital. Felix was already stationed outside the ward. As Skye moved to enter, Felix blocked her path.
"Skye, your sister... she's in a very unstable condition. Be careful when approaching her," Felix warned cautiously.
Skye nodded and opened the door. There, huddled in the corner, was a girl—disheveled and filthy, her hair matted, arms crisscrossed with scratches, trembling uncontrollably. One look, and Skye's eyes instantly welled up. How proud and cheerful her little sister had once been.
"Stay away! Stay away!" Sophia shrieked, her voice trembling with fear.
Just as Skye was about to approach, Sophia suddenly lashed out, flailing her arms wildly to keep her away.
Felix caught Skye's arm firmly. "Wait, we need to discuss something."
Skye turned back to Lauren and Rowan, her voice firm and authoritative. "Watch her closely. Make sure she doesn't harm herself."
Understood, Ms. Sky.
Once outside, Felix removed his glasses, wiped them nervously, and put them back on.
"Stop wasting my time," Skye snapped coldly.
Felix felt awkward—Skye had seen right through him.
"Skye," Felix said seriously, "when I conducted a psychological evaluation on her earlier, I noticed she was deliberately concealing something. Given her current condition, I'm almost certain what she's been hiding."
"Spit it out," Skye snapped.
Felix drew a deep breath. "Sexual assault."
Upon hearing those two words, Skye's icy, menacing gaze faltered—her pupils contracted sharply as she stared at Felix in stunned disbelief.
Felix instinctively shrank back—Skye's intimidating aura was as chilling as ever.
"What percentage?" Skye demanded.
Felix replied firmly, "100%."
Skye closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, she strode into the ward. Felix stood at the door, a sedative ready in his hand.
Felix stood ready, sedative in hand—just in case.
Sophia's eyes were hollow, brimming with overwhelming terror. She tried to claw at herself again, but Rowan and Lauren swiftly intercepted her. Both were remarkably agile—when Sophia lunged at them, teeth bared, they dodged her attacks with practiced ease.
Sophia was like a caged beast now—anyone who approached would be met with her desperate, life-or-death lunge.
Skye gently cupped Sophia's face in her hands, her gaze meeting those terrified almond eyes. "Sophia," she murmured softly, "don't be afraid. It's me—your sister."
Sophia stared blankly at Skye for a long moment, her eyes unfocused. Then, as if finally recognizing her, she whispered in a trembling voice, "Sis..."
Skye motioned for Lauren and Rowan to release Sophia. With hesitant concern, they let her go. The moment she was free, Sophia rushed into Skye's embrace, sobbing, "Sis, sis!"
Skye gently stroked Sophia's hair, running a soothing hand down her back. "It's me, don't be afraid," she murmured softly. "Sophia, tell big sister what happened?"
Sophia cried desperately, "Sis, they didn't touch me! No—no! They didn't!"
Sophia's anguished scream tore through the room, her voice filled with utter despair.
Skye simply held her tight in silence, not uttering a word.
Felix swiftly administered the sedative to Sophia.
Sophia's body gradually went limp, and within moments, she collapsed unconscious in Skye's arms.
After settling Sophia into bed, Skye said coldly, "Get Anna in here."
Anna had just finished bandaging the bite on her arm when she noticed Skye coming in.
Anna hurried over, anxiety written all over her face. "Ms. Sky, I'm so sorry. This is entirely my fault—I never should have taken Sophia to the business conference."
Skye glanced at the wound on Anna's arm and stepped aside. "Give me a full account—start from the beginning," she ordered.
With her vivid crimson hair and a perfectly tailored suit accentuating her slender yet curvaceous figure, Anna adjusted her glasses with a practiced gesture.
"Ms. Sky, I stayed with Sophia the entire time at the business conference—we weren't apart for even a moment. She showed no signs of distress during the event. But after we left and got in the car, she took a phone call, and within half an hour, she suddenly became completely withdrawn. I rushed her to the hospital right away."
"A phone call?" Skye cut straight to the point.
"Yes, Ms. Sky. When I brought the car around, the call had already ended. It was my oversight—I failed to notice Sophia's expression at that moment."
"Rowan!" Skye barked.
Rowan immediately caught on, logged into the system, and quickly traced the caller behind Sophia's phone call.
"Ms. Sky," Rowan reported, "this guy goes by the name 'Chop'—he's a notorious troublemaker in the Market Street area. He usually hangs out at..."
"Move out," Skye snapped.
Lauren and Rowan eagerly followed. Anna also wanted to go, but Lauren stopped her. "Stay here and keep an eye on Miss Sophia. Call us right away if anything happens," Lauren instructed.
Anna finally stopped. As Felix returned to the ward, his gaze fell on a woman with striking red hair. Frowning, he stepped inside and asked, "Who are you?"
Just one glance, and Felix froze. "Damn, this woman is a real stunner!"
Her impeccably tailored black suit clung to her curves, especially accentuating her ample chest, exuding the allure and confidence of a sophisticated woman. Gold-rimmed glasses perched on her high-bridged nose, framing a delicate, heart-shaped face. Behind the lenses, her eyes radiated both intelligence and sharpness.
Her long crimson hair cascaded smoothly over her shoulders, each strand catching the light with a subtle sheen.
Her makeup was flawlessly applied yet understated, exuding an aura that perfectly balanced intellect with solemnity.
Felix was an avid anime fan, and to him, this woman looked like a corporate queen straight out of an anime. Her presence might not have been as cold and intimidating as Skye's, but she was still formidable in her own right.
Anna sized up the man before her and said coolly, "I'm Sophia's boss. What do you want?"
Felix withdrew his gaze. "I'm the doctor. Where's Skye? I need to discuss her sister's condition with her."
Anna crossed her arms, her injured hand not slowing her in the slightest.
"Ms. Sky has gone to handle an urgent matter. Please wait here."
Felix raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so you're Sophia's boss? What's your name?"
Anna replied coldly, "I don't owe you my name."
Felix was speechless.
