Skye let out a cold laugh. "No need to guess—I'll show you exactly how this ends."
Without another word, Skye lashed out with a powerful kick, sending Jessica sprawling across the floor.
Jessica let out a sharp cry as Skye's kick sent her flying through the air before she could even hit the stairs.
She hit the ground with a deafening thud, collapsing like a broken doll.
Skye only took a few steps forward. The fall from the stairs wasn't far enough to kill or cripple her—at most, she'd just spit some blood. "What a pity," Skye thought, utterly unfazed.
Skye stood tall and imposing, her cold, aloof gaze sweeping over Jessica, who lay sprawled on the ground beneath her.
"Jessica!" Emily called out, her voice full of concern.
Jessica!
"Jessica!" Richard called out, his voice trembling with worry.
Three voices cried out simultaneously as Linda burst in, pushing Richard's wheelchair at full speed.
They helped Jessica up, but blood kept pouring from her mouth and nose, the pain so intense it felt like she was being torn apart inside.
With tears in her eyes, Jessica said, "Mom, Dad, it was Skye... I just wanted to straighten things out with her, but she... she wouldn't even give me a chance..."
Burning with rage, Richard clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white. His body still ached from injuries and dislocated bones that hadn't yet healed—only to witness this scene unfold before him.
Richard shouted, "Skye, what the hell are you doing? Are you trying to kill her? She's your sister too! How could you be so cruel?"
Richard glared at Skye and warned, "Skye, if anything happens to my daughter, I'll make you pay for it!"
Jessica gently held Emily's hand and said softly, "Emily, don't blame your sister Skye. This is all my fault—I never should have intruded into your family. Please promise me you'll get along with her, and don't let my presence come between you sisters, okay?"
Emily burst into tears, wiping her eyes in distress. "Jessica..."
Emily turned to Skye, her voice shaking with rage and tears. "Why would you do this? How could you be so cruel? You're absolutely terrible!"
"A dull ache spread through Skye's chest, accompanied by a faintly suffocating feeling," she thought.
She didn't explain.
"Finished talking? Then scram!" Skye said coldly.
Skye showed not a shred of remorse, turning Richard crimson with rage.
Linda broke down in hysterical sobs, wailing, "Richard! Richard! I can't go on, I just can't! My daughter's been treated like this—how can I face the world when I can't even protect my precious girl? What kind of mother am I?"
Richard roared, "You ungrateful wretch! Get down here and apologize this instant!"
Skye descended the stairs step by step and kicked Jessica hard in the calf.
Jessica jerked upright in pain. "Ah! Skye, you bitch!"
Richard snapped at Skye, "Skye, what the hell are you trying to do? Must you turn this house upside down and make everyone's life a living hell?"
Richard was seething with rage, feeling as if he had been completely sidelined—like he didn't even exist.
"You want me to apologize, Father?" Skye fixed him with an icy stare.
Richard ground his teeth, nearly cowed again by this damned girl.
Richard snapped, "Damn right, Skye! Why did you hit her?!"
Skye sneered, "Because she was practically begging for it, shoving herself in my face. Shouldn't I give her what she deserves? Right, Jessica Clark?"
Linda snapped back, "My daughter's name is Jessica Hughes!"
"Not for long."
Though Skye's words sounded light and offhand, they sent shockwaves through all three of them.
Richard shouted, "Skye, you ungrateful wretch! What the hell do you want? Jessica is my daughter too!"
Skye shot back mercilessly, "What's that to me?"
"You!" Richard was momentarily speechless. Then he snapped, "I'm your father! I have every right to tell you what to do!"
Like I said, you don't have to be my father.
Skye's gaze darkened, razor-sharp.
"You—!" Richard's eyes widened in shock as he stared at her, completely at a loss for words.
Jessica never expected things to turn out like this. The outcome was light-years from what she had envisioned.
Richard found himself utterly helpless against Skye.
"Richard," Skye said coldly. "I'm giving you one chance to make amends for your disrespect—revert her surname to Clark and publicly declare she is no longer part of the Hughes family."
Linda, unwilling to back down, screamed, "Why? Who the hell do you think you are, Skye? How dare you order your own father around! You ungrateful bitch, you shameless slut—you deserve to die, damn it!"
Before Linda could finish, Wendy stormed over and slapped her hard across the face—twice. "How dare you insult Miss Skye!" she snapped.
Richard was seething with rage—not just anger, but the humiliation of having his authority and dignity as a father so blatantly challenged. To think his own daughter would dare order him around like some lackey!
If this got out, how could he ever face people again?
"What if I say no?" Richard roared. "Skye, have you lost all sense of decency? How could you be so cruel—even to the very parents who gave you life and raised you!"
Skye fixed Richard with a frosty stare. "You should know that emotional blackmail is the dumbest move you could make. Someone, come here. My father's clearly showing signs of mental instability—he's letting someone else's daughter take the Hughes name while treating his own flesh and blood like a stranger. I suspect he's under someone's influence. Take him to the psychiatric hospital for evaluation."
"How dare you!" Richard choked out between violent coughs, his face flushing with rage.
Before Richard could even react, the bodyguards behind him yanked his arms violently.
Richard roared, "Skye, you ungrateful wretch! How dare you! I'm your own father, and you actually want to send me to a mental hospital? This defies all moral codes! You'll be struck by lightning for this!"
Skye's eyes were ice-cold as she let out a mocking laugh. "Forgotten already, Father? Wasn't it you who tried to have your own daughter committed to a mental institution last time? Now it's your turn—what's the hold-up? Move it, before visiting hours end at the psychiatric hospital."
"Yes, ma'am!"
Richard cursed and swore, his eyes wide with shock as the bodyguards dragged him into the car against his will.
Lauren approached with a stack of documents. "Ms. Sky," she reported, "Jessica has reverted to her original surname, Clark. From now on, she is completely disassociated from the Hughes family. The announcement has already been made public."
Skye whipped out a stack of proof documents and slapped them down in front of Jessica and Linda, her crimson lips parting with chillingly seductive menace.
Skye stated, her voice chillingly calm, "Whether you're a Hughes or a Clark was never your choice. Understood?"
Skye towered over them like an unassailable mountain, as they were just two ants beneath her feet—powerless, insignificant, and could be crushed at any moment.
Jessica stared at the documents in disbelief, her hands trembling as she fumbled through the pages. "Jessica Clark!" she gasped, utterly stunned.
Her pupils dilated violently, fists clenching until her nails dug into her palms—she was completely shattered.
Jessica screamed, "Skye, you fucking bitch! Who the hell do you think you are to treat me like this? What gives you the right?!"
Everything Jessica had prided herself on shattered in that instant. She'd been so sure Skye would be wary of Richard—that by manipulating his feelings, she could have Skye thrown out of the Hughes family.
To her shock, Richard turned out to be nothing but a worthless nobody in front of Skye—utterly powerless, and even ended up being committed to a psychiatric hospital.
"No! I can't accept this. I just can't!" Jessica screamed inwardly, her heart burning with resentment, unwilling to give in.
"Skye!" Jessica screamed hysterically, her voice shaking with rage. "How dare you act so recklessly! Aren't you afraid I'll expose you to everyone? You'll become a public enemy—an unfilial daughter despised and condemned by all!"
