"What..."
Damien's lips trembled as he stumbled back against the wall, disbelief flooding his eyes.
"Where is she now?"
The nurse shook her head—she had no clue.
Damien shoved past everyone and burst into the director's office.
"The donation agreement! Show it to me NOW!"
The director jumped up and frantically handed over my voluntary heart donation contract.
With every page Damien flipped, his face went another shade whiter.
My personal information was crystal clear on every line. Now he knew for damn sure—the heart donor really was Riley.
Exploding with rage, Damien hurled the contract at the director's face and kicked the desk over.
"Who the hell gave you permission to take her heart?! She's my WIFE! How could you let her donate?!"
"Where is she now? Tell me where she is RIGHT NOW!"
The director was scared shitless. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and whispered:
"She's... she's dead..."
"The patient had a rejection reaction during surgery. According to her final wishes, she's already been cremated."
Damien froze like he'd been struck by lightning. Completely motionless except for the tears streaming down his face.
He kept muttering:
"Impossible... how is this possible..."
"Excuse me, are you Mr. Cross?"
A delivery guy stood in the doorway, holding up a bag.
"Riley Morgan asked us to give this to you."
Hearing Riley's name snapped Damien back. He grabbed the delivery guy by the collar, voice shaking:
"Where is she?"
The guy looked confused and annoyed, pulling away. "How the hell should I know?"
He shoved the package into Damien's arms and bolted.
Damien tore open the package with shaking hands.
Inside was a divorce agreement and some documents.
Clipped to the divorce papers was a handwritten note from me.
[Damien, I've paid back that thirteen million ten times over. We're even now. Don't forget to sign the divorce papers. This is my final request.]
Damien clutched that note until his knuckles went white. His eyes were bloodshot, lips trembling uncontrollably.
He couldn't understand why I'd risk my life just to divorce him at any cost.
Did I really hate him that much?
Gone was his usual arrogant composure. He looked like he'd aged ten years as he collapsed to his knees.
Then he opened the documents. His eyes went wide—he was losing his mind!
The records showed his mother jumped because she'd discovered her beloved husband was cheating. He'd even forced her to abort their second child.
The grief of losing her baby plus learning the truth broke her completely. That's why she went to the rooftop.
Mom rushed over when she heard, begging her to come down.
But she cried and pleaded: "I can't live anymore, but Damien's still young. Please hide the truth from him. I don't want him to hate his father."
Little Damien had always idolized his dad. Learning the truth would have destroyed him.
Mom tearfully agreed to Mrs. Cross's request. But those scumbag reporters twisted it, claiming Mom had pushed her off the building.
The shock made Mom fall down the stairs and put her in a coma.
Staring at the evidence of his father's affairs, Damien's whole body shook. His throat felt blocked by molten lead as all those hate-fueled years came flooding back with crystal clarity.
All this time, he'd treated me like livestock. Humiliated me without mercy. Used me as his personal punching bag for all that rage.
If this was true... how desperate must I have been?
Blood rose in his throat. Damien coughed up a mouthful and collapsed unconscious.
