Damien was out cold for three days. Vivian camped out in his hospital room the entire time.
His assistant had also dropped the real truth about what went down years ago right on his nightstand.
The second Vivian saw him wake up, she shoved a water cup at him.
"Oh my God, Damien! You totally freaked me out..."
One look at Vivian and he wanted to puke.
That face—so much like Riley's—made his gut twist with regret and self-hatred.
All these years, he'd been screwing around with random chicks just to get under Riley's skin.
But Vivian? That face brought back memories of college with Riley. That's the only reason this basic bitch ever mattered to him.
"Get down there. Lick my boots clean."
Damien's voice was dead as he pointed at his designer shoes on the floor.
Vivian's fake smile cracked. "Uh, what now?"
Damien snapped, yanking her hair and backhanding her across the face.
"Who the fuck said you could lay a hand on Riley? You're nothing but her discount knockoff!"
Just thinking about Riley's broken smile that day made him want to throw up.
He'd totally screwed over Riley and her mom. How the hell was he supposed to fix this now?
Vivian lost her shit, clutching her face and blubbering as she got on her knees. She stuck out her tongue and started licking his boots.
Damien kept reading through the evidence, growling under his breath before smacking himself in the face.
Jesus Christ, Damien... what did you do?
He waved over his security team.
"Keep an eye on this bitch. Make her lick clean every shoe in this whole damn hospital. Then toss her in with those pit bulls from the underground fights."
He paused, then added:
"Just don't let her die."
Riley's heart was still pumping inside that skank.
Vivian went totally mental, screaming and begging as they hauled her off.
When she realized she was fucked, she whipped around with this crazy-ass smile: "What's the matter? Riley finally ditched your sorry ass? Good for her! You're such a pathetic loser, I bet even stray dogs wouldn't piss on you. I hope you die alone and miserable!"
Damien's hands balled into fists, then went limp.
He let out this bitter laugh. The crazy bitch was right. He deserved every bit of misery coming his way.
Clutching my urn, Damien drove out to the cemetery.
He bought me a plot right next to his mom's grave.
Thinking back to that day when I was on my knees here, sobbing that my mom was dead, Damien bit his lip and carefully moved the wilted carnations aside.
Mom's photo stared back at him.
His heart pounded like crazy as this crushing wave of regret hit him.
Every word I'd said that day was the truth.
If he'd just fucking listened to me, glanced over at this headstone for two seconds, maybe none of this shit would've gone down!
He collapsed on his knees and completely lost it.
When he finally pulled himself together, he buried the signed divorce papers with my ashes inside the grave.
He leaned his forehead against my headstone, tears dripping onto the stone.
"Riley, just wait for me, okay? I'll be right behind you..."
