THOMAS POV
"Are you alright sir?"
The doctor asked as he laid a small row of stitches on my arm. I only responded with a small nod, keeping my head down as I stared at my lap. The cold handcuff was too tight and it now rubbed my skin raw since the police officers forced me into such an awkward position.
I gulped as I tried to block out the memory of what the fuck just happened, unwilling to process the act that I was not only arrested but shot by some idiot just because of the color of my skin. My hands were in the air, I was following their directions, I did everything they asked and I was still seen as a threat.
Not only was I arrested in front of my husband and boyfriend on false charges, but Jaydean saw it all.
I remembered my face being pressed to the wall of my own home as the cold cuffs were wrapped around my wrists and Jayde peered down at me from the staircase. Her beautiful blue eyes flooded with fear and her face contorted in shock as she watched her daddy being arrested like he was a common criminal.
She probably thinks I'm a horrible person now.
What if she's so ashamed of me that she stops calling me daddy?
My heart shatters as I try to maintain a cool, calm, and collected composition but there were a lot of emotions going on right now and I'm not as strong as everyone thinks I am.
"Are you ready to confess?" The officer asked, waiting for me to say anything so he could use it against me in a court of law.
"I've said it a million times, it was a farm accident that had nothing to do with me," I sighed into my lap and the doctor finally finished the last stitch.
"Then why are you uninjured? You didn't help collect the animals?" The officer asked and I shook my head.
"I don't know if you've noticed, but I don't exactly have legs," I snapped and the officer quickly placed one hand on his gun.
"Just confess already, make it easy for us,"
"My son isn't confessing to jack shit,"
The loud familiar voice fills the room and I turned to see Pierce and Mika Grayson, my father in laws, standing at the hospital doorway. Pierce crosses his arms and stands at his intimidating height, watching quietly as Mika stalked into the room.
Not gonna lie, I've known the man for five years and he's a super nice guy and all, but to this day Pierce still scares the shit out of me.
"You're holding him on probable cause without evidence. The public filed the claim not his husband so you need to uncuff him now." Mika states and the officer goes to argue but Pierce speaks first.
"I wouldn't bother if I was you," He warns and the officer narrows his eyes at Mika.
"I have to speak to my superiors about this, what's your name?" He grumbles and my father in law gives it to him as he leaves the room.
Mika lets out a sigh of relief, wrapping his small arms around my shoulders as he hugged me tightly.
"We got them out and we'll get you out of here too," Mika says and pulls away, looking at my wound. Now it was my turn to be relieved knowing Matty, Luca, and Jayde were safe.
"How are they?" I asked and he gives me a sad smile.
"A little shaken up, but I think everyone will be okay once you guys are together. You'll stay at my house for a few days and we'll devise a plan to make this go away," He swears and I hold him to it. Trusting my father in law more than my actual father, I trust him with not only my life but the lives of my entire family. My world.
"Did you hurt him?" Pierce asked and I met his stern gaze, a little hurt that he would even think I was capable of hurting my precious Kitten.
"Of course not," I answered with complete honesty and he softened.
"Good, cause I love you but I thought I was going to have to kick your ass for a second," He chuckles and I nervously laugh with him, wishing I could move but the handcuff prevents me from doing anything.
The officer comes back with his supervisor and a deep-set frown, taking the key to my cuff and unlocking it. I gently rub my wrist, trying to get sensation back.
"You're free to go but we'll need a statement within 24 hours," He says but Mika wasn't having it.
"Actually my client needs time to heal with his family after you and your gang invaded their house, assaulted him in front of his husband, and traumatized their little girl. We will call you when we're ready to make a statement," Mika states as I stand up off the hospital bed, taking my discharge papers with me and not making eye contact with any of the officers as I leave with my freedom.
Knowing others aren't so lucky.
