My fathers taught me three valuble lessons
"And now we announce our prom king and queen, Macy Kathrine Woodrow and James Caper!"
The court of whatever announced to the crowd of preppy high schoolers. Rotton rich kids who somehow managed to make Hasan and Jaydean feel like they were the outcast.
Not like they minded.
"Of course the most basic bitch takes all, she always does and always will,"
Jaydean grunted with her sarcastic flair as Hasan gripped her hand in his.
"Come one Jayde, I can think of a mllion better places than here," Hasan offered and Jaydean quickly accepted her best friends offer, giving his hand a gentle squeeze as they made their way out of the auditorium.
My mother taught me how to love myself and to accept that I am what I am and I should never change for anyone other than myself.
"Do you believe in love?"
Hasan asked Jaydean as the laid in the middle of the field in the back of his truck in their full prom attire. Jayde kicked off her high heels and let out a long sigh, letting her air flutter up to get the curls of red hair out of her brillian hazel blue eyes.
"I believe people can fall in love, but I don't think love is...palpable," She tried to explain, knowing her best friend would understand the words she was trying to find.
"So you're saying because love isn't something you can touch and hold that it must not last forever," Hasan deciphered her words in an instant while staring at the stars. Trying to ignore the beating of his own heart.
"But not everything that's physcial last forever," He tries to add and she shifted her head, resting it on his chest as a pillow. Feeling it rise and fall with every breath he took.
"No, which means no love can truly last forever," She said and Hasan wished he could see the face she was making right now. Was she being serious or sarcastic? Sometimes it was extreamly hard to tell.
"Do you think there's something stronger than love?" He asked but was met with silence as the crickets continued to chirp and a few wolves in the distance started to howl.
"If there is, I certainly haven't found it yet," She giggled and he nervously gulped.
"What's with all the love stuff anyway? Have you fallen for someone?! Who is she?" Jaydean propped herself up in the dark so she could see his face, but in the dark it was hard since he's of a darker skin tone, while her pale skin could probably be seen from a mile away.
"Hasan! I thought we promised to tell each other everything!" She said as she smacked his chest, attempting to hide her inner heartbreak once she realized he liked someone else.
"We did and we do, I just..." Hasan paused raising himself up to his elbows and meeting her beautiful gaze which took his breath away. His mother's words replaying in his head as he debated how to finish his sentence.
"She's not even one of us and she's not even white Hasan! She's a mixed blood of only god knows what! Do you want your children to be mixed? You'll bring so much shame to this family!"
Hasan gently cupped Jaydean's soft cheek in the palm of his hand, her smooth skin went without make up because she was so naturally beautiful that she never needed a drop of foundation. She was the genuine rock in his life, a diamond that always brought him back from every trial he faced.
He didn't need to finish his sentence, because she finished it for him with their first kiss.
My papa taught me how to be resilliant and when to be strong in the face of those who are against you.
"FOR THE LAST TIME, YOU. ARE. NOT. GOING. TO. THE. MIDDLE. EAST!"
Jaydean's mother screamed at her and in a flash of white hot anger, Jayde threw everything currently resting peacefully on the kitchen counter to the floor, shattering a few glasses without the slightest care.
"MY BEST FRIEND WAS DEPORTED TO A COUNTRY HE'S NEVER BEEN TO, SURROUNDED BY A LANGUAGE HE'S NEVER SPOKEN, AND PEOPLE HE'S NEVER MET! HIS LIFE IS IN DANGER AND I'LL BE DAMNED IF I LET HIM DIE WITHOUT DOING ALL I COULD TO BRING HIM BACK!"
She screamed back at him and ran out of the kitchen, stomping up the stairs to her bedroom where she plotted her escape.
Later that night Matthias went to check on her, since the girl hadn't left her room for the rest of the afternoon and even missed dinner.
"I don't know what to do Thomas," He said to Jayde's father as the two stood outside her door.
"Did you tell Luca?" Thomas asked and Matty nodded, biting the edge of his lip, before knocking on her bedroom door.
"Jayde? Jaydean baby open the door, we're not mad at you, we just want to talk. Maybe we can figure out something," He called out to her and when there wasn't a single sign of the door opening Thomas took the key and unlocked the door. Opening it to find their eldest daughter was now missing.
And my father taught me to be brave, even when you don't feel like you are.
"You're never going to find him,"
The woman told Jaydean after she told her the story of her purpose for being here, stamping her passport with hesitation.
Knowing the girl was more likely to die trying to find her friend than actually finding him.
"Watch me,"
