                    LUCA POV
"Good luck boys,"
I whispered under my breath as I could hear the 2.2 Million people eager for the arrival of NTB as Matthias took the stage. Once he took that first step, I was thankful for the soundproof headphones Jaydean and I both wore because if I could hear them loud and clear with these things on, I was pretty sure it could shatter my eardrums.
"Look Papa! Mommy's glowing," Jaydean points as all the screens in times square focus on my Matthias.
With every footstep he takes towards the microphone, a single bass boosted heartbeat reverberates through the entire crowd and my own heart skips a beat. His steps illuminated by the floor beneath him which glows a shade of blue. When his hand touches the mic, a silence ensues that has me holding my breath.
He traces his index finger up the stand in a slow seductive way and makes eye contact with the camera, sending a shiver down my spine when I see his beautiful hazel-gray eyes shining in their own spotlight.
The weight of the world
it's killing you
I can see it in your eyes
It's in your every move
Every step that you take
you're hurting me
Every move you make
I wish there was more I could take.
You can try to push me away
But I will always remain
Matthias sings with a slow build up beneath his beautiful voice, now gripping the mic with both hands and holding it close as he hit the high note.
I had heard this song about a hundred or so times, never really paying attention to the lyrics since Thomas and Matty often spent hours in the studio or passing moments mumbling random sound bites and pieces of lyrics that I never felt the full effect of.
But this song was different, it wasn't a song about self-love and empowerment. It was about a man who was weak but learns to trust in his lover and gains a new found strength.
They wrote a song about me right under my nose and it made it to #1 on the charts in over 70 countries. The fact they wrote a song about me at all without telling me was another subject entirely as the beat drops and Matthias is quickly joined by Thomas, Milo, and Kailani.
Jaydean claps her hands together as she watches her family perform, I laughed as I rocked her back and forth on my hip, trying not to cry in front of all of America at my future husbands' gesture.
The crew performs two songs before making a dramatic exit off the stage with just thirty minutes left until the ball dropped to ring in the new year. Drenched in sweat, Matthias kisses my cheek as he rushes back to the green room with the rest of the crew and I fall in line. Watching them as they get surrounded by hair and makeup to make them look fresh for the ball drop.
Thomas and Matthias were panting after the intense dance break, still failing to catch their breaths as they sat back to back on a small ottoman and I put Jaydean down, holding her hand as I edged closer to them.
"You wrote a song about me?" I asked and they both rolled their heads towards me at the same time with an identical look that made me feel kind of stupid and ignorant.
"You just realized that now?" Matthias asked out loud and I gulped, tilting down my head in shame for not recognizing their efforts sooner.
"Sorry, I-I didn't know...I thought it was about other stuff," I shrugged and Matthias chuckles a bit.
"Sorry, with the panting that probably came out a little more aggressive than I wanted it to be," He quickly apologizes and Thomas gently elbows him.
"Just a little huh? Jeez, you would think you were scolding him like Jaydean," Thomas brings out before he's finally freshened up and released from the makeup gurus. He wraps his arms around me and brings me closer to him until our chests touch and I let go of our daughter's hand.
"Did you at least like it?" Thomas asked, gently kissing my forehead and I nodded.
"Of course I loved it. I always have I just didn't know it was about me until now," I explain and now Matthias was released. He quickly joins us, hugging me from behind and pressing himself against me so I was sandwiched between them both in a tightened embrace. Having the two of them so close made me feel so warm and safe. Like nothing could go wrong as long as I was in their embrace.
Even Cooper relaxed as he laid down beside the arm of the couch like some sort of Egyptian statue, unmoving as he saw I was safe.
"Ten minutes until the ball drops!" One of the stage managers called out and Jaydean tugged at our pant legs.
"Daddies! Let's go watch the ball drop!" She pleads and we follow her pull, letting one of the managers bring us up a set of stairs to a balcony specifically for performers, set above the large crowd. Those already there stared at us as we walked in, I was never really into music enough to follow it. There are only two artists I follow on Spotify but that's only because I live with them.
Surrounded by more cameras, I start to get a little nervous and Matthias nearly senses it. He puts his hand in mine, intertwining our fingers and sharing his strength with the squeeze of his hand. Thomas lifts Jaydean onto his hip so she could get a better view. She's the only child on the balcony but I'm guessing that's just because the other parents don't trust their kids enough to behave for this kind of spotlight.
It was just two minutes until the ball dropped and I stood beside my lovers. Feeling okay as long as they were with me, Matthias leaned over and let go of me to tuck a strand of loose red hair behind Jaydean's ear when the countdown started. I pressed against Thomas, wrapping my arm around his back and Matthias did the same. Touching mine as we watched the ball make its descent.
Finally, it touched the bottom and the entire crowd erupted in screams, unlike anything you could imagine. Fireworks erupted and confetti was dropped on all of us from God knows where as we faced each other. Everyone was kissing their significant lover, but together we collectively kissed the only person we loved more than we loved each other.
Matthias and I both her little cheeks while Thomas kissed the top of her head and with my eyes closed I felt the white flashing light against my eyelids.
Little did I know, that the photo of the three of us, holding each other and kissing our daughter as the first poly couple to be shown on live national television across America, would go viral within just 32 seconds.
It was a quick peck on our little angel that would last a lifetime and while all the straight couples were making out without a care, we decided it was best to go back inside.
A gay couple was socially acceptable, but a gay trio? We thought the world would blow up for sure.
Little did we know, they already had.
In the safety of our green room, I took Matthias by his waist and kissed him, wishing him a happy new year before turning to Thomas and kissing him as well. While my Fiances' kissed each other I kissed Jaydean again as she fell asleep on her daddy's shoulder.
"Happy New Year Jaydean,"
