*MATTY POV*
"She's safe now,"
Finley's words replayed in my head as we walked into my cousin's office after the droid unlocked the door. Clutching Thomas' waist as we entered first.
I tried to make us appear normal but what's normal about traveling to another country four months pregnant with quads with a husband who's about to pass out, a fiance who no one knows about, and a daughter with cancer?
The office is nearly flooded with all sorts of greenery as we walked into the room. Plants added a little boost of green to the white box that was his office with a single window that expanded the length of the wall behind his desk.
And on the desk, sat my cousin Mari with his legs crisscrossed over each other and his head rested on his hand as he looked over a tablet rested on his lap. Soft blonde curls messily sat around his head but were illuminated by the sun coming in from the window.
His big gray eyes quickly gazing up once he sees us and he springs off the desk, landing on his feet as he rushed towards me and hugged me so tight that I had to let go of Thomas.
"Aish! Matty-yah! You've stayed away for far too long! I missed you so much!" The ball of sunshine that is my cousin Marius, squealed as he squeezed me tight and I tiredly wrapped my arms around him.
"I missed you too," I hissed, barely able to breathe with him and the four babies pushing on my insides. He finally releases me and I nearly collapsed if he hadn't continued holding me.
"Woah, you must be exhausted! Oh, and I haven't met you two yet but let's get to what's important here first. There's some water on my desk, why don't you guys go ahead and take a seat," Mari beckons before pealing my baby from Luca's arms.
"Oh look at you! You're absolutely gorgeous aren't you!" He cries out, waking her from her tired slumber. I take one of the glasses of water that he offered, with Thomas and Luca doing the same as we were all so hungry and thirsty from the journey.
But I was kind of confused when there were only three glasses.
"Appa, would you like some?" I offered the water to him but he shook his head.
"No, I'm okay," Appa quickly refused and I shrugged it off, taking a few more sips.
"Here, sit on the table for me," Mari patted the examination table next to his desk and Jaydean did as she was told which was strange. Usually, she feared strangers but maybe she's too tired to care at this point.
"Hi there, I'm your uncle Mari, I guess we would really be cousins but you can call me your uncle to make it easier." He smiles as he unzipped her pink sweater and took it off her. My daughter shivered a bit and I wanted to put up a small fight for her to keep it on but I was too tired.
"I'm Jaydean," Jayde held her hand out and shook her uncle's.
"Jaydean, such a beautiful name for such a beautiful child, look at all your red hair! You must get it from your other dad's side of the family," Mari mentions as he holds her head in his small hands and looks into his niece's eyes.
"Mhm, my papa said his mommy had bright red hair too, so I guess I get it from her," She explains with her signature grin and Mari examines her forearms, flicking her veins a little bit.
"Do you know why you're here Jaydean?" Mari asked her as he sprayed one of her little arms with a numbing agent, having her close her eyes as he took a blood sample.
"I'm here because you're a doctor and I'm sick and Mommy wants the best for me," She says as he finished. She opens her eyes and he puts his hands on his hips.
"How did you know I was a doctor?" He asked her and she pointed to his clothes.
"You're wearing a doctors coat silly," She giggled and he rolled his eyes, putting a little band-aid on her arm.
"You're right Jaydean, man you are so smart. Your daddies must be raising you so well," Mari says and Jaydean gasps when she sees her arm.
"Oh my gosh! It has kittens on it!" She squeals and Mari chuckles a bit, listening to her heart and lungs while his tablet was running a diagnostic on the blood sample he took.
His tablet beeps a few times and he holds Jaydean's fragile shoulder to keep her still. His smile holds as he puts the tablet down and kisses the top of Jaydean's head.
"She qualifies for the surgery," Mari breathes a sigh of relief before pulling a children's sized hospital gown covered in little animals out of a drawer, placing it on top of the table before tapping something on his tablet.
"When can we do the surgery?" I asked him, expecting it to be sometime next month or so, that way we could prepare and read up on the side effects before I decided with her fathers if this was right for her.
"Right now," Mari smiles as he taps something on his tablet and pulls out a yellow rubber band that he places over the wrist of my baby girl. I laughed out loud when he said this, not believing him until I heard a loud thud. Looking over to find Thomas and Luca were passed out in their chairs. The glasses that were once filled with water were now on the floor.
"We do this to all the parents, it's standard protocol since the surgery is 24 hours. In the beginning, there were a lot of parents who were so stressed out they had heart attacks in the waiting room," Mari explains but he wasn't talking to me. He was talking to my Appa and my eyelids feel like they weigh a ton.
"You mother fucker," I groaned under my breath and Mari looks down on me with pity.
Suddenly there's two of Jaydean and the room starts to spin.
"Mommy?" I looked into those beautiful blue eyes one last time before my eyelids fully seal.
"Say goodnight to your mommy Jaydean. Don't worry, you'll see him when you wake up," Mari's voice floods my ear and I feel a little hand on my cheek. Unable to say a word to comfort her or to even tell her what was going to happen.
"I love you mommy,"
Jaydean's voice was the last thing I heard before drifting off into nothingness.
