Jaydean POV
"...And that's my puppy, Crow and that's my family,"
Hasan finished explaining his picture to the rest of our class and I made sure to clap extra hard for my best friend when he took a bow and even stood up so I could cheer.
"Jaydean, since you're standing up, why don't you go next?" Mrs. Hart suggested and I gladly snatched up the drawing I made of my family and jumped to the front of the class. Sticking it to the whiteboard with shaky hands and tiny animal magnets.
"Hi hi, my name is Jaydean Arabella Jackson and this is my family," I point to the picture with outstretched arms and the kids all turn their heads.
"This is my papa. He's has a really funny voice, he makes lots of yummy food, and he loves animals just like me. Then this is my Daddy, he's super strong and has metal legs like Iron Man and he loves to play with me. Then this is my mommy, he's the most handsomest, cuddliest, sweetest mommy in the whole wide world. That's my doggy Houston, he's my best friend forever and I didn't have enough time to draw all of our animals but I have a lot. And that little person next to the sun is my baby brother TJ. He's in heaven now," I showed the class and suddenly all their hands sprouted up.
I crossed my arms and pretended to be Mrs. Hart, pointing to Max first.
"Why is your Daddy brown when you're pale?" He asked and I looked up at my little stick figures with my chocolate colored daddy on the side.
"Cause he has a different skin color. I dunno why he's like that he just is," I shrugged and moved on to the next question.
"Why does your mommy look like a boy. Your mommy is a girl, she's supposed to wear a dress," Jorgie cackled in the back but I was confused.
"But my mommy is a boy," I told him and soon the whole class was laughing.
"Mommies can't be boys. Only daddies are boys," They said and I stood with my hands on my hips.
"Well my mommy is a boy so deal with it, next question," I tried to move on but the others were still laughing at me.
"Why are y'all laughing! She didn't say anything funny!" Hasan yelled at the class but no one seemed to hear him.
"Why do you have three daddies? Are your parents separated?" Lucy asked and I scratched the back of my head.
"No, my mommy and daddies are all together," I try to answer as honestly as I could but the class started laughing again calling me stupid and I shrunk back.
"Hey now, that's enough. Does anyone else have a family like Jaydean's?" She asked, but no one raised their hands. I turned around and took my picture from the wall with little tears starting to make their way out of my big blue eyes. I went back to the group and sat on the edge next to Hasan who looked down on me.
"Hey, Jayde? I thought your picture was great," he said, trying to make me feel better as Suzie went up and posted her family picture with her stupid cats and her girl mommy and boy daddy.
"Whatever," I shrugged him off burying my head in my hands so I could cry alone.
At recess, I started to get excited so I could play with my friends in class but once I tried the all pretended I didn't exist.
"Sorry Jayde, your family is weird so I don't wanna play with you," Suzie said as she walked off to go jump rope with her friends.
"Fine bitch!" I yelled at her with my hands balled up in fists as Suzie gasped.
"That's a bad word!" She yelled back and Tommy came running forward to protect Suzie, his obvious crush.
"Hey call down tri daddy, it's not out fault no one wants to play with a sinner like you. My mommy says having two daddies is wrong and you have three and one of them's a nigger which means you're going to hell and your dead brother is there too!" Tommy yelled and I punched him right in the nose making him bleed.
"Don't talk about my baby brother or my family!" I roared before pouncing on him, continuing to take out all my anger on his stupid face.
"Jaydean!" I heard Hasan call out but ignored him, even when he was pulling me off, Tommy.
"Jaydean, stop! You're gonna get in trouble!" Hasan tried to warn me but it was too late.
The whistle had already been blown.
