He raised his hand and called over a warrior.
"One hundred slaps. Make sure her so humiliated she won’t dare show her face in public again."
Before I could react, the first blow slap across my cheek.
The second. The third...
Tears fell uncontrollably from my eyes, yet my face felt strangely numb to the pain.
I just stood there, dazed, watching Thorne knelt beside Amaris, tenderly blowing on her injured ankle.
Amaris looked at me smugly, her lips silently counting along with each slap:
“Ninety… ninety-one… ninety-two…”
When she reached ninety-nine, she spoke with saccharine sweetness.
"Alpha, perhaps that's enough? Liora's face is so swollen now—like a beaten rogue. She probably couldn't even enter the ceremony hall."
Thorne signaled the warrior to stop, his voice carrying a cold warning:
“Be good. Once we break the mate bond, you can chase whatever dreams you want."
They practically dragged me into Thorne's vehicle.
I begged him to let me make a phone call.
“If I don’t explain my absence, the committee will consider it contempt. I'll be permanently blacklisted from all this award again.”
He knew it well—winning this award was my mother's dying wish, an honor I'd fought eight years to achieve.
Meeting my bloodshot eyes, Thorne's expression remained ruthlessly indifferent.
"In your heart, some meaningless vanity award matters more than a innocent pup's life?"
"Liora Moonveil, when did you become so shallow and fame-hungry?"
I stared at him in shock, my laugh bitter as winter frost.
"Fine. I’ll give it up.”
No one saw my clenched fists, nails piercing deep enough into my palms to draw blood.
Whatever I lost I’d make sure he repaid it with everything he had.
After breaking the mate bond, we just had to sign the bond-breaking deal before our dissolution became official.
Thorne seemed in good spirits afterward.
Catching sight of my swollen face, he softened his voice slightly.
"Does it still hurt?"
I ignored him and went to the pack healer alone.
By the time I returned, it was already night.
I tried unlocking the door to our den three times, but the key didn’t work.
The next moment, the door swung open from the inside.
Amaris stood there in a barely-there nightgown.
"Liora, I’m pregnant, and Thorne was so worried I might harm myself that he insisted on bringing me home. He won't leave my side for even a moment."
"I told him this was too unfair to you, but he said as long as I'm not suffering, that's all that matters."
“What can I do? He just love me so much.”
This mansion was called Moonveil Manor—named after me, gifted by Thorne as our mating den.
