I jerked my arm free, disgusted. But the bastard wouldn't quit, dropping to his knees like the pathetic alpha he was.
"Liora, please! I'll make her abort the pup right fucking now. Kick her out of Moonveil Manor—she'll pay for everything. I'll spend my whole life making this up to you!"
That's when Amaris came charging out of nowhere.
Her face was ghost-white, eyes swollen from crying. She'd obviously heard every word.
The bitch completely lost her shit, screaming: "THORNE! You piece of shit! YOU're the one who told me to hit that bitch because you were scared she'd take back her patents! Now you want to pin everything on me? FUCK YOU!"
Thorne's control snapped. His wolf surfaced, violent and desperate. He kicked her straight in the stomach.
"You fucking whore! If you hadn't thrown yourself at me every damn day at work, I never would've been stupid enough to pick trash like you over Liora!"
Amaris crumpled to the floor, clutching her belly.
Thorne spun back to me, that last flicker of hope in his eyes. "Liora, baby, it wasn't me! Look—she's got no proof!"
I burst out laughing, pulling a sleek recording pen from my bag. "She doesn't need proof, asshole."
His face went slack.
"Left my voice recorder in our bedroom that night. Caught your whole conversation with her brother about the hit job."
I looked down at Amaris writhing on the marble floor. "That recording? Already with the cops."
I crouched next to her, my voice soft but lethal. "And you, sweetheart—got crystal clear footage of your little demolition derby stunt. Cops have that too."
My smile was venom. "Figured you lovebirds should go down together. How romantic, right?"
Police sirens wailed outside Moonveil Manor. Thorne's eyes went wide, reality finally bitch-slapping him in the face.
"No, no, NO! This isn't how it ends! My life was supposed to be perfect—healthy, rich, happily mated!"
I stood up slowly, my laugh echoing through the destroyed ballroom.
"You could've had all that. But you forgot something, Thorne."
"The Moon Goddess doesn't bless faithless assholes."
Thorne's eyes went hollow, like his soul had just evacuated. Then something clicked, he started muttering:
"No, wait. Wait... my body's still strong. The health wish is still active. Still working, still working..."
He kept repeating it, his voice cracking with madness.
Before anyone could react, he shoved past the security guards and bolted for the exit. Reporters chased after him like a pack of hunting wolves.
I didn't move. Just listened to the screech of tires and screaming from the street outside.
Game fucking over.
