I have not had the best start to my day.
Not only did I have less sleep than I would have liked, but Rosé was gone when Jennie and I woke up.
She left a note apologizing again for how she acted and promised that we'd catch up after dinner, but I'm still concerned. Her note also mentioned that she had something to take care of and that's why she couldn't stick around this morning.
I called Rosé immediately because it's killing me that I don't know what is going on with her. She assured me that she is fine despite her monstrous hangover but she gave me no other information.
I suppose I'll have to show patience to my friend, even though I don't want to. I have my suspicions on what is up but I'll let Rosé confirm them for me when we speak.
And we will.
So I'm sleep deprived, anxious about Rosé, and a wee bit cranky.
It's not my fault.
Really it's not!
Honest!
It doesn't help matters that Jennie is finding new ways to annoy me.
Seriously.
I love her and all but right now I'm peeved.
Maybe we've been spending too much time together.
Blasphemy!
I can't believe I just thought that!
There's no such thing as too much Jennie time.
I get out of the Jisoomobile and the sound of Jennie slamming her door closed makes me cringe.
We're at the grocery store.
My mom asked me to pick up a couple of things, plus the cupboards in my place are bare.
I loathe grocery shopping.
People always put their carts in the middle of the aisle so you can't navigate through properly. I can't stand when it's busy. And let's not forget the lines.
I have no patience for waiting in line.
Ever.
I grab an empty shopping cart and when I turn around Jennie isn't there.
She's still in the parking lot.
Ah!
Move it slowpoke!
"Were you waiting for an engraved invitation or something?" I snap when her majesty finally enters the store.
Wow!
I'm way cranky!
Whatever.
"Sorry my legs were still wobbly from the drive over here," Jennie fires back.
Don't push me, missy!
I roll my eyes and I make sure Jennie sees me do it. "You're exaggerating, my driving wasn't that bad."
It wasn't.
I think.
"Then explain to me why my life flashed before my eyes on more than one occasion," Jennie counters like she's so smart.
Hello!
Drama queen!
I start moving rather briskly. "Says the girl who can't even drive."
"Good one," Jennie deadpans.
Argh!
I'm so frustrated!
And it's not because we didn't have sex last night.
We did it twice this morning!
What?
Just because I'm not my regular cheery self doesn't mean I'm going to give up sex with Jennie.
I pull my shopping list out of my purse before I glare at my irritating girlfriend. "Look, the less you talk, the faster we'll get out of here."
Good plan if you ask me.
"Fine by me, Oscar," Jennie replies as she throws a couple of bags of chips in our cart.
I stop moving completely. "What did you just call me?"
And just in case you're wondering, no my mood is not because of that reason.
"I called you Oscar, as in the grouch," Jennie explains.
Oh man!
She's got a lot of nerve!
"I am not grouchy," I protest even though secretly I know I am.
"Please!" Jennie exclaims a few decibels louder than necessary. "You've been snapping at me since we got out of the shower."
"I have not!" I raise my own voice.
Two can play at that game!
Then Jennie does something unforgivable.
She pinches my cheeks.
My cheeks!
The ones on my face!
If I were a cartoon, steam would be coming out of my ears right about now.
"Don't you dare do that again," I growl menacingly.
Jennie moves right in front of me. "Or what?"
Eek!
This is not good!
"You don't want to find out," I warn her.
She really doesn't
Jennie moves her hand slowly towards my face and she's smirking.
"I'm serious," I tell her as my voice becomes shrill.
"I know you are," Jennie replies with an even bigger smirk. "And so am I."
I think we might be causing a scene.
Out of the corner of my eye I can see people watching us.
"Excuse me," a lady who must have some sort of death wish cuts in.
Jennie and I both turn our heads in her direction at the same time.
She clears her throat. "Are you Jennie Kim?"
Oh come on!
I can't have one fight without superstar over there getting recognized.
Ugh!
Who cares that it's never happened before.
Jennie forces herself to smile but I know that inside she's still fuming.
Well so am I!
"Yes, that's me," she says with no hint of anger in her voice.
"I thought so," Ms. Interrupter coos.
I swear to whomever that if she tries to hit on Jennie I will tear her a new one.
Ok, ok, she looks like she's in her sixties, but Jennie's hot so it could happen.
It's taking everything in me not to bark at the lady to leave us alone.
But I'm strong and a supportive girlfriend even if Jennie's being an ass.
What?
I am not!
"I just wanted to say good job standing up for what you believe in," Grandma Moses says.
Yes, yes, Jennie's amazing.
Can we move on?
"Thank you very much," Jennie sweetly replies like we're not in the middle of a huge blowout.
"That's all I wanted to say." Yes! She's leaving! "I'm glad things seem to have worked out with you and your wife."
Uhm.
Her what now?
Wife?
Me?
The lady must be senile or something.
"We're not married," I quickly tell the interrupter.
Yet.
Although, right now, marrying Jennie is the last thing on my mind.
Ok, ok, not the last thing but pretty darn close.
She smiles in that old person kind of way. "Oh, I'm sorry, my mistake dear." She shakes Jennie's hand and just when I think she's about to go, she adds one more thing. "You might not be married, but you certainly fight like you are."
Whoa!
I wonder how bad it would be if I punched her?
How dare she!
Jennie and I watch her leave and when we turn back towards each other, I'm ready to give her a big piece of my mind.
The only problem is, the second our eyes connect, we laugh.
Hard.
And all the tension between us dissipates.
"Was she giving us a compliment or insulting us?" Jennie asks as her wonderful, amazing, warm eyes, soften.
How could I ever get mad at her?
She's the cutest person alive.
I shake my head. "I don't know, but at least we're not at each other's throats anymore." I push our cart out of the way so I can give Jennie a kiss. "I'm sorry for being moody and bitchy."
Jennie returns my kiss and then I get another one from her. "Me too."
I would like nothing more to keep kissing Jennie but we have things to do.
Groceries to buy.
Make up sex to have when we're done shopping.
With our fight over, we continue down the various aisles in much better moods.
I'm still not a fan of the whole cheek pinching incident though.
Jennie tosses a blue box of cereal amongst our other groceries. "Really? Frosted Flakes?" I turn my nose up at her. "They're pure sugar."
Jennie hip checks me, not too hard thankfully. "They're grrrrrrrrrrreat."
I roll my eyes at her but this time, I'm being playful, not spiteful. "Don't come crying to me when your mouth is full of cavities."
Jennie grabs the cart and I'm just about to ask her what's wrong when she whispers in my ear. "I'd rather have my mouth full of you."
Wowzers!
We need to get out of here.
Pronto!
Jennie grins at how flustered she made me. "You doing ok there, Jis?"
Oh I'm doing just fine!
Just fine indeed!
"Yeah, I'm uhm good," I reply in one shaky breath.
Jennie really knows how to keep me on my toes.
And she's good at getting me on my back!
I send Jennie to get some milk and then my eyes find an item that makes me stop.
Stop cold.
But I'm still hot!
Stop the presses!
Hold the phones!
I just had possibly my best idea ever!
No, I'm not exaggerating.
I hold the cool can in my hand as my mind gives me a visual, to top all visuals.
Jennie in a whipped cream bikini!
I know!
In my head she looks good enough to eat!
Does she ever!
Whoa!
I'm pretty sure my eyes are glazed over and I have a huge grin on my face.
Jennie in a whipped cream bikini!
Jennie in a whipped cream bikini!
Oh!
Yeah!
Before Jennie returns I throw about ten cans of whipped cream in our cart.
I'm sure she'll question me on why I'm purchasing so many cans but when I explain the reason to her I'm sure she'll be glad that I did.
We get the last few items on my list when I have another brainstorm.
It must just be my day or something.
I giggle to myself as I walk back over to Jennie. I see her give me a funny look when I drop the item I picked out in our almost full buggy.
"What's with the apron?" she asks as we head to the check out line.
"Well, seeing as I didn't get to strip for you last night, I thought I'd make it up to you today," I reply and it's getting very hard for me to keep a straight face.
Jennie is even more puzzled. "By cooking for me?"
I bite down on the inside of my cheek to prevent my laughter from bubbling to the surface. "No, I thought I'd role play a fantasy for you." Oh, I'm so evil! "I'll don the apron and put my hair up in a bun." Jennie is completely clueless as to where I'm going with this. "You can come in the kitchen looking for Marsha or Jan." Tee hee, I think she might be getting it now. "I'll tell you they're not here and that we have the place to ourselves. I'll even offer you a glass of lemonade and then I'll take you right there on the kitchen table."
Bow chica wow wow!
I find myself hysterical; Jennie, does not.
She gives me the evil eye but I can't stop laughing.
That was funny!
Mrs. Brady the seductress.
Ew!
"How many times are you going to bring that up?" Jennie inquires and her body language is very stand offish. "The next time I feel the need to share something with you that's personal, I won't"
Uh oh!
I think I may gone have too far.
I was just teasing her.
I manage to grab Jennie before she leaves in a huff.
Her warm eyes have turned icy.
"I'm sorry," I apologize. "I didn't meant to make you upset."
Damage control time.
"Well, you did," she snaps. "The first time was funny, fine, but now it's not."
"I really am sorry," I can't believe I'm such a moron. "I won't ever bring it up again."
"Saying you're sorry doesn't just make it ok," Jennie tells me as I begin to panic. "Enough is enough, Jis."
"I know," I whisper while flashing her my best puppy dog eyes. "I'll do anything I can to make it up to you."
Jennie quirks her eyebrow but I have a feeling she's not having dirty thoughts. "Anything?"
I nod my head vigorously. "Anything!"
Jennie looks around and then she takes a bottle of red pasta sauce off the shelf. "Open this up and dump it on your head."
Huh?
She's joking.
Right?
I take the jar but I refuse to believe she's serious. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me," Jennie sneers. "I said dump that bottle of sauce on your head and maybe I'll consider forgiving you."
I wait for her to crack a smile.
She doesn't.
Uhm.
Ok then.
But I have on my favorite pair of jeans.
They're faded and they hug my butt quite nicely.
"I'm waiting," Jennie says as she taps her foot on the ground.
"You want me to pour sauce on my head in order to make things right with you?" I ask just in case she's changed her mind.
"That's right," she smirks.
Well I guess that's what I have to do.
I'll take one for the team.
Team Jensoo that is.
I step away from our groceries after I ensure my very expensive purse is out of harms way.
"Here I go," I mumble as I go to unscrew the lid.
Clean up in aisle three!
I'm just about to tip the bottle over when Jennie snatches it out of my hand. I don't have a chance to question her because her mouth covers my lips and her tongue is dueling with mine.
"You're so easy," Jennie smiles against my mouth and then I get another kiss.
I should be mad at her, but I'm more relieved that I didn't really make her upset. Plus she's kissing me so it's near impossible for me to be mad when that's happening.
"No, that's you, remember," I tease.
Jennie pretends like she's going to toss the sauce at me so I shriek and runaway from her.
Eventually we decide to stop acting like children and pay for our groceries.
That starts a whole other debate about who's going to pay.
It ends with Jennie shoving me away from the cashier so she can purchase the food with her credit card.
Lucky for her I didn't suffer any serious damage.
Not to mention the surprise I have in store for her when we arrive at my apartment.
Jennie in a whipped cream bikini!
You know, I think I have a brand new appreciation for grocery shopping.
Jennie and I had a great afternoon together.
Yummy!
We even managed to squeeze in a nap so the risk of our moods turning sour again has greatly diminished.
Rosé is still on my mind but after talking to Jennie about my concerns I feel better. She is a very good listener and she doesn't dismiss me in any way, shape or form. It also helps that I'll be seeing my friend tonight so I won't have to wait much longer to have a much needed chat with her.
When we arrive at my parents' house the driveway is empty.
My mom asked us to come a bit earlier to drop off the groceries we picked up. I think it will also be nice for Jennie to have some time with my mom without anyone else being around.
She disagrees.
Jennie is convinced that my mom is mad at her for how heartbroken I was. I assure her nothing could be further form the truth but I don't think Jennie's convinced. She confessed with a bit of prodding from me that she's never really been accepted before and that's why she's nervous.
I gave Jennie lots of extra hugs after she told me that.
How anyone could do anything but love Jennie is beyond comprehension.
It will take time for the damage that Jennie's childhood caused her to fade, but I'm confident that her emotional wounds will heal. She doesn't realize it yet, but she has a whole support system in place that she didn't have before.
Headed by me of course.
We walk up to my parents' door holding hands and I can tell Jennie is still feeling anxious, despite our earlier conversation.
"Everything will be ok," I assure her before I unlock the door. "It's not like my mom is going to yank you by the hair and throw you out her house. So relax and give me that smile of yours I love so much."
"That could happen," Jennie says under her breath.
No, it won't.
My mom likes Jennie.
And she's not a violent person.
Except for that one time, when she threatened...
Never mind.
That story is not a good one to prove that I'm right.
"If she does, and she won't by the way, but if she does, I'll be leaving with you," I softly whisper as I rest my forehead against hers. "Ok?"
"Ok," Jennie whispers back but I still don't get a smile out of her.
"Mom, we're here!" I shout as Jennie and I step inside the house.
We're here.
Jennie and me.
My girlfriend and me.
Sweet!
"I'm in the kitchen," she replies.
I stroll into the kitchen with Jennie in tow and when my mom looks up, she grins. "Hey, you two."
"Hey, mom." I drop her purchases off on the counter and Jennie refuses to let go of my hand.
"Hey, Mrs. P.," Jennie nervously says.
"It's good to see you both." My mom continues to chop away as she speaks. "I'm running a bit behind schedule, but dinner should be ready on time."
I sit on the one of the stools by the island in the kitchen and Jennie sits on the other. "Where's dad?"
"At the office, he just got home last night and he said he had to clear up a few things before dinner," my mom informs me. "It's a good thing we're going on vacation soon or he'd be in big trouble for going into work today."
The three of us share a laugh, but Jennie is clearly not comfortable.
"What's on the menu?" I ask, hoping that small talk will get her to relax.
"You'll have to wait to find out," my mom teases. "Oh that reminds me, I wanted to make my famous bean salad." She turns to me. "Do you mind getting me a few cans from the basement?"
"Sure, no problem," I tell her even though the death grip Jennie now has on my hand lets me know she doesn't want me to leave.
I gently pry my hand out of Jennie's. "I won't be long."
She begs me with her eyes to stay.
I can't say no to my mom.
That would be impolite.
Besides I have a feeling my mom is sending me to get the beans for another reason.
I exit the kitchen, but instead of going to the basement I double back and discreetly watch the interaction between my mom and Jennie.
I think my mom is going to give her a pep talk or something.
"So, Jennie," my mom starts as she focuses all her attention on my terrified looking girlfriend. "What exactly are your intentions with my daughter?"
Wait.
What?
Apparently I don't know my mother as well as I thought.
"My intentions?" Jennie repeats as she rubs the back of her neck.
My mom wipes her hands clean but she keeps her eyes trained on Jennie. "Yes, your intentions, what are they?"
Maybe I should step in.
Is it bad that I want to hear her answer?
I'll just wait a few more minutes and if things get ugly I'll come to Jennie's defense.
"To uhm love her," Jennie stammers out as she tries in vain not wilt under my mother's glare.
"You don't sound too sure about that," my mom hisses.
Poor Jennie.
I know that tone.
I used to get it when I broke curfew as a teenager.
I'm riveted by what's taking place in front of my eyes so I keep quiet.
"To love her," Jennie repeats with a lot more confidence. "And to make her happy, those are my intentions."
Go Jen!
And might I add, a mighty fine answer on her part.
"Mmmhmmm." My mom's lips are tightly pressed together, it looks like she was just sucking on a lemon. "And do you plan on breaking her heart again?"
Jennie goes wide eyed as she starts fidgeting with her hands. "No, ma'am."
Aw!
She's so cute!
Being all petrified!
Excellent response by the way!
Bravo!
My mother picks up the knife she was using and walks around the island. "That's good to know because I don't take too kindly to anyone harming my kids."
This seems like the right time to tell my mom to stop tormenting Jennie.
However, I caught a glimpse of her eyes even though she can't see me.
And they told me all I needed to know.
Jennie jumps to her feet but she doesn't run; she stands her ground. A pretty brave move considering how intimidating my mother can be. "I love Jisoo very much, and all I want to do is make her as happy as she makes me."
Aw!
I have the world's greatest girlfriend!
I almost run over to her to give her a hug but I restrain myself.
Jennie looks like she's about to pass out.
My mom drops the knife on the counter before finally cracking a smile. "I know you do and it's obvious that she loves you too." Hell yeah I do! "I only want what's best for my daughter, and from what I can tell, that's you."
Aw!
I have the world's greatest mom!
It takes a second for Jennie to realize what my mom just said. "You think that?" she squeaks out and it's clear she doesn't want to get her hopes up.
"I do," my mom clarifies before she opens up her arms. "Welcome to the family, Jennie."
I feel a lump form in my throat.
Out of sheer happiness and because of the expression of amazement on Jennie's face.
She doesn't say anything but she does hug my mom.
I wish I had a camera to preserve this moment.
"Thank you, Mrs. P.," Jennie says once their hug is over and there are tears in her eyes. Hell, there are tears in my eyes too! "You have no idea what that means to me."
I think my mom does.
I certainly do.
My mom puts her hand on Jennie shoulder. "Just treat my daughter well, that's all I ask."
"I will," Jennie sincerely pledges.
"And if Jisoo does anything to hurt you, I'll be sure to have a word with her," my mom promises.
Hey!
You're my mom!
Jennie gives my mom a shy smile. "I don't think you have to worry about that, she's the best person I know."
Aw!
I'm swooning again.
I'm not sure what else they discuss because I run to the basement to get the beans before either one of them figures out I was eavesdropping.
I look for the cans my mom was referring to but I can't find them.
I sprint back to the kitchen and when I get there Jennie and my mom are back to their original spots and chatting away like they didn't just have a moment.
"Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't find any beans," I breathlessly announce as I retake my seat next to Jennie.
"Oh you know what, we finished them last week," my mom exclaims in fake surprise. "I completely forgot."
Jennie and my mom smile at one another and I love it.
When my mom goes to the fridge, I lean in towards Jennie. "Anything exciting happen while I was gone?"
Jennie shakes her head as she gives me a huge nose crinkle smile. The sheer happiness in her eyes is worth more to me than any amount of money in the world. "Not really."
It's ok that she's not running to share what occurred and I don't feel that way just because I know already. I understand her reasons and I respect them.
"Would you like some grapes?" my mom asks Jennie as she places a bowl in front of her.
"Thanks, Mrs. P.," Jennie says before she pops a few in her mouth.
"Hey! What about me?" I exclaim. "I am your daughter you know."
She never offers me grapes!
I always have to steal them.
My mom winks at Jennie before she addresses me. "I guess you better be nice to Jennie and see if she feels like sharing."
"Don't worry, Jisoo," Jennie throws her arm around my waist before she kisses my cheek, "I'll always share my grapes with you."
Aw!
How sweet!
Jennie is it for me.
I can't imagine loving anyone like I love her.
And from the glint in her eyes, and the way she holds me close to her, I think she feels exactly the same way.
