Wednesday after lessons, you saw Riddle walk across the hall
"Tom!" - hearing your voice he stopped and you caught up with him "enchantments of outrageous fortune to take arms against a sea of thousand natural quakes that make calamity of so long a life"
Riddle's eyes squinted "Excuse me?"
"From the middle of there came to an open place was out walking, without its means he had the foot of all he said" - you proceeded
"What?"
You sighed, taking a notebook out of your satchel and with your quill you quickly wrote some words then handed it to Tom
and he read your note:
'A friend asked to test a blabbering potion at lunch'
"Delightful." - Riddle said in a low tone "You shall be speaking gibberish during the whole meeting I presume?"
You grabbed the notebook from his hands and quickly wrote underneath your already scribbled letters.
'She said it should last around an hour, I think I just failed defense against dark arts'
'should stop soon'
Riddle was holding back a smirk as he watched you put your book and the quill back into your satchel.
"If it lasts I will see to it you are given an anti-dote." - he said, but his chin quickly lifted as if he thought of an idea "Unless it will come to even more amusement."
The two of you then headed for professor Slughorn's classroom only to find seven other members of the club already seated by a long table. Most of their arms were either crossed or folded as if their bodies were telling us they all had secrets. Horace, however, was standing at a side of the room and poured himself a cup of tea.
You suddenly felt extremely nervous, aware of why you were here.
In contrast, Riddle sat down by the table, his posture firm and confident before he so easily began talking to the other members. You could tell he was not the oldest but he was the leader - leading a bunch of boys who were in search for someone stronger.
Tom saw you still stand where you were and he coldly declared "Get on with it."
You knew what he meant. You held back a sigh and went for the teacups in order to serve them all drinks, able to hear some mumbles about jinxes from their lips in the background.
"What are you doing?" - The cold voice stopped the chatter. You turned around to see Tom frowning at you.
"You--"
"Sit. Down." - with his palm, he pointed at a chair opposite him, on the other side of the table. It was an empty seat in the middle, in-between four boys - two on each side of the chair.
On Tom's side, there were 2 boys on his right and 1 other boy as well as professor Slughorn on his left - So there were 10 people in the room in total.
"Bu--" - you wanted to ask about the deal, but perhaps Riddle was worried about you being induced with blabbering potion
"Forget about it." - after they all watched you sit down he glanced around from face to face "As we know Jinxes are affiliated with dark magic used often to cause discomfort to the victim."
"Yes" - Slughorn agreed "According to a spell book written Miranda Goshawk Jinxes are dark charms"
"Who can name at least 5 charms and their abilities?" - Tom spoke out to the group but much to Tom's shock, nobody raised their hands "No one? Surely even first years could answer this question"
Seeing no one respond, you lifted up your hand.
Riddle looked a little worried seeing you. He didn't want you to speak out rubbish yet he didn't know how long it would last.
"A Gryffindor overshadowing the snakes" - he hesitated before proceeding "Yes, <___>."
You studied this before, you knew far more than just five.
But you were a little terrified to start talking in case the potion was still in effect
"I-uh-I'd say... Cascading Jinx" - you noticed Riddle look a little relieved and you could feel that sense too as you proceeded to talk now with a clear head "Cascading Jinx is one of my favorites. It is an offensive spell meant for attacking multiple opponents at once who are flocked together. Once casted, the wand ejects a blue beam which erupts into an explosion, affecting everything within the range set by the caster."
Slughorn interrupted you "That's a brilliant one. Taking out multiple enemies at once could be very helpful. Do not use it unless there is an emergency" - realizing he prevented you from continuing he apologized "I'm sorry, please do continue"
"There's a dancing feet spell, forcing the victim to dance wildly" - you proceeded "An Impediment Jinx causing the target to slow down...." - you glanced down at the table, brainstorming for two more "There's a Jinx against marriage, causing the target to refuse marriage which I found quite entertaining" - you paused for a few seconds thinking of the last one "Finally there's a ventus Jinx, which summons a heavy blow of the wind. There are many more of course but at the moment I can only think of these."
Tom didn't seem very satisfied with your answers but he was satisfied that you could at least name five "Yes, yes, well done. However... I was thinking more of.... Well... Powerful jinxes" - he slowly stated "Like flesh burning or flesh stinging"
"Well you didn't specify so...."
Tom didn't respond, he just looked annoyed at your reply.
Slughorn proudly smiled "Well I say good job to both of you, every knowledge is useful no matter of its relevance, right?" - he laughed but nobody laughed with him
For the first time, you properly sat a table simply chatting to Tom and the rest of his group and actually felt equal. The topic you were having wasn't too harmful and just enough informative. But you knew you'd never truly be one of them - it was wrong. They were soon-to-be deatheaters. And there was one question swirling in your head - why did he invite you as a servant yet treat you as an equal in the actual club.
"Professor" - Avery's voice stopped your thoughts "Would it be alright if we tried one of the jinxes?"
"I don't know" - Slughorn appeared suddenly worried "I don't think that's allowed" - poor Slughorn, always wanted to be liked by his students. He had a hard time resisting requests.
"Please" - Avery who was seated on your right, begged with an overly dramatic voice. Seeing it wouldn't work, Avery started to guilt trip Slughorn "You're our favorite teacher. And what's the best way to learn new things than to try them?"
"Well..." - he was very hesitant "Alright..." - Slughorn flashed a stressful smile "Just nothing that would harm the other"
"Perfect." - Avery mischievously smiled as he turned his head at you "Care for a rematch?"
"Not really."
"Oh come on! I'll go gentle on you, I promise" - he was tauntingly smirking
"No thanks."
"Such a disappointment." - Avery suddenly sneered
"That's enough." - Tom interrupted "Do demonstrate, <___>." - Tom quickly noticed the immediate masochistic smile that Avery flashed towards you and Marvolo didn't like it "But." - he captured everyone's attention again "Avery is in no position to defend."
"What?" - Avery's eyes bulged "That's hardly fair."
"You are safe here." - Tom stated "There is a professor in the room after all. And what is a better way to learn than to try. Am I correct?" - He smirked, watching Avery's displeased face
Indeed, the anxious looking professor.
Avery sighed and got off his seat followed by you. Next thing you knew, you both stood opposite of one another in front of the classroom.
You pulled out your wand and pointed it at the defenseless Avery "Don't worry. I'll go gentle on you, I promise" - you deviously smiled. "Levicorpus!" - the blondish boy slightly screeched at the sight of a green jet of light bolt for his legs that were hoisted into the air and he suddenly hovered, upside down.
The observers smiled and laughed at Avery's yelp. As he finally landed back on the ground, his hair was messy and he was shooting you a sharp sneer.
