Both of you stood still, gazing at each other, waiting for the other to make a move.
Hesitating, Tom casted a spell, it pushed you against a wall towards Cecilia's direction. Roots grew from within the walls, wrapping and securing your wrists. Struggling to move, your wand fell out of your grip.
Tom recognized this as a chance to proceed torturing his father, to which immediately returning to, after making sure the bind around your wrists was firm.
"Wait!" - you wiggled, trying to escape, but he ignored you
"Crucio!" - his wand ejected a red bolt of light that flew directly at his blood line. Unable to escape, the father unwillingly dropped back down to the ground, his bones cracking.
The room erupted with chaos.
"NO! STOP IT!" - you shouted at Tom, who did not listen. His thirst for revenge was stronger than his bond with you.
Tom's grandfather, observing your struggle and will to help, dashed to you, picking up your wand and handing it back. As your eyes met his, you thanked him.
With a quick hand movement, an incendio spell escaped your wand, burning off the wooden roots without harming your wrists, freeing you from Tom's magic.
"Expelliarmus!" - you waved your wand at Tom's hand, but as soon as he heard your voice, he summoned a defence spell, protecting him from your shot at disarming him.
"Don't force me to use unforgivable magic on you, y/n"- He spoke to you softly "I do not desire to harm someone like you"
Shut inside your own commotion of feelings, you blindly decided to ignore him, proceeding the attack. You stepped closer, pushing forwards, releasing bright, orange beams from your wand towards Tom, which one by one, he diverted or reflected.
"Enough!" - he grew tired of evasion.
A spell escaped his lips and a root began to grow from the ground, quickly developing a face and hands, turning into a whole, alive, hostile tree.
Watching it, your eyes narrowed "What kind of magic is this?"
With great force, It shoved you through the hole in the wall, sending you spinning uncontrollably in the air and land outside the house. You were not in the room anymore, you could not see what Tom was doing, and your new enemy ran in front of you.
Its sharp, needle branches scratched your sensitive skin, opening up fresh, deep cuts on your left arm. You shrieked in pain but you knew you had to fight.
"Reducto!" you blasted its stem, smashing it open. With ease, the creature grew it back, reverting to its original form, attacking you once more.
Each of its smite was like a touch of a thorn, one scratched your cheek open, blood spilling down.
You were bleeding from head to toe but you couldn't give up.
"Confringo!" - a beam shot straight at it, rushing full force, exploding the wood into millions of pieces.
But once again, you watched your opponent regenerate its figure.
It lifted its leaf infested arm and smacked you off balance. It charged, bolting at you as fast as possible, piercing you through the hip.
You coughed blood, tasting silver, you struggled to stand up. Wiping the red from your mouth, you faced the enemy.
"Incendio!" you uttered out a spell, waving your wand up and down, left and right, creating different, bright, orange flame lines that formed into a shape of a Lion. Soon your spell came alive - a pure burning predator made out of fire with its own mind.
You pointed the wand at your opponent, controlling your animal.
The sizzling flame roared as it caught the tree between its fiery teeth, setting the wooden monster on fire and leaving it to burn. Your enemy released a loud groan as it turned into ashes, presenting your victory.
You rushed back to the Riddle house, your hip cramping as you limped in pain.
When you entered the chamber, the colour drained from your face - two dead bodies next to each other. One was Tom's grandfather, the man who helped you, lying on the floor, cold dead, his eyes wide open, his mouth open as if he choked.
The other one nearby was clearly the body of Tom's father. By the shape you figured he was tortured to death, his bones cracked and body incredibly mangled, blood had spilled from his open wide mouth.
Tom himself was standing at a far right corner, attacking the old woman who was screaming for mercy. Before you could help, she was immediately blasted by a green, bright flash "Avada Kedavra!"
Then there was only one person left in the household besides you and Tom. He did not realize you were back in the chamber as he was ready to wave his wand and murder Cecilia.
"Expelliarmus!" - this time, you successfully disarmed him
Surprised, he looked at your injured body and his face seemed to drop
"It had to be done" - he said
This did nothing but anger you "You're wrong!"
You saw Cecilia escape. You knew you had to do something, because if she escaped, Tom would be in danger and if she didn't, she'd die. You ran after her, leaving Riddle and catching up with her in the hallway.
"Obliviate!" - running after her, you watched the spell hit her back. This was for her own good, she mustn't remember this night. Summoning a paralyzing sleeping spell, you slipped her inside a nearby wardrobe to hide her.
The clear air outside turned into loud thunder, a storm was coming. And alongside that storm - Aurors.
You ran out of the manor as fast as possible, leaving Tom behind. But he managed to follow you by the time you escaped into the yard.
On your left stood a by standing man who had a face filled with insanity, talking weird things as he watched you run. Tom took advantage of that, he made sure nobody could track you or him, inserting false memories into Morfin's terrified face, making him think he killed the Riddles and was proud enough to brag about it.
As you left the yard of Riddles, you limped down an empty and dark street of Hangleton.
Tom, following you, demanded you to stop, stating you were weak and hurt, but his actions beforehand left you completely stunned, creating rage from his behavior - he did not listen to you and it mixed with the deep regret of your failure. You blanked out his voice.
Alarmed by distant aurors, Riddle rushed towards you and grabbed your arm.
"Come, we have to leave." - he told you
You stopped, piercing sharply into his eyes "Then leave"
"If they'll capture you, you'll be expelled, imprisoned, interrogated" - he frowned "Is that what you really desire?"
"Then so be it" - your angry voice turned into a soft utter. Tom, however, refused to let go of your arm.
Seeing this, only with a spell you blew him backwards, he rammed against a brick wall behind him which allowed you to walk away.
Knowing that it wasn't long until aurors would appear in Hangleton, he took one last glance at your back and apparited away.
By the time thunder halted and aurors were investigating the Riddle house, you were already gone in the dark streets, severely injured. Unable to walk any more due the sharp pain in your hip, your bent body sat down on the cold, empty pavement. No one else was there in the fog but you.
You could not hold your grunts of pain in anymore.
When you got the courage and strength to get back up, you limped forwards, in hopes of leaving the town. But you knew you wouldn't get far.
Your groans of pain attracted negative attention, it presented you as an easy victim.
A group of five men suddenly circled around you, whistling.
"Oh boy, what do we have here?" - one of the figures smiled
"What's the matter, pumpkin, you look scared" - another added
"Don't worry, we won't hurt you" - a third man giggled.
As you were about to pull out your wand and show them who is the damn pumpkin, you realized your wand had been snapped.
Instantly, you felt helpless. You didn't know what to do but await for the upcoming possible danger.
Before one of the dark shapes could touch you, a recent gift from tom - a golden bracelet with a red, dragon gem sat in the centre - started evolving a bright, red, ominous light.
Suddenly, one of the swines were slain by a quick, flashing, green light.
It was Tom standing behind the group.
As he was ready to attack the rest, the group spread out, running away in fear like a bunch of vulnerable insects from a boot.
Before you could say a word, Riddle, with force, grabbed your wrist, escorting you away, teleporting out of the town.
When your legs balanced on the ground, you fainted into his arms.
Awakening inside the room of requirement, you felt unable to glance at Tom. You got up as he wasn't looking, rushing out of the chamber, still limping as you headed for the hospital room.
When he noticed you were freshly gone, Riddle followed the faint trail of blood, catching up as he kept eye on you to make sure you do not faint again.
"Remain still, let me carry you, I insist" - he spoke out to you
"It's fine." - you shot back, still limping away
"I was obligated to do it. My father was nothing but a filthy muggle. Stubborn and heartless" - he explained "There's no room for him"
You stopped. Turned and sharply glared into his eyes "Well then... an apple didn't fall far from its tree, did it? You will always be a Tom Riddle."
He looked startled, the words managed to get to him. You were the only one who ever wanted to understand him, succeeded, and still remained by his side. He knew this. As if he wasn't burdened enough by his own troubles, for some reason you couldn't stop adding salt to the wound, completely forgetting about the mission, letting the inner fury get the best of you:
"I don't want to see you again, just don't talk to me. I will not speak to anyone of this event but you can't get close. Not anymore. You had me. But now? - All because you insisted to murder."
Unexpectedly, Riddle felt appalled. He was able to feel fondness and yet now it was all broken. He was burdened by a heartwrenching ache.
"I'm sorry" - he whispered, turning back and leaving you alone in the hallway.
After brushing off his apology, regardless if it was sincere or not, you walked towards your destination, until conveniently, a local nurse found you sooner. She led you to a room with barely any patients.
"Oh dear, what happened to you, you poor girl" - she asked as she began disinfecting your wounds.
"Just trying out my own spells" - you had to lie
"Oh my, they're too dangerous for someone your age. Numerous have died from it."
"I've figured..."
The given medicine could cure wounds, scars or even bones, but not if those scars were internal.
