Ever since the feud, wounds on your flesh healed but your mind remained restless.
Oddly, your heart throbbed at the thought of him no longer needing you, the anxiety made it hard to sleep and eat. It felt sickening to think about the mission.
You promised to Dumbledore you'll save hundreds of lives. And yet, there you were, sat alone among the sunset, inhaling the gently breezing wind outside of Hogwarts, taking in the peace as you immersed yourself into the nature.
This was the last year of Hogwarts. More or less the end of it. You haven't said a word to Tom for so long that you couldn't even remember the sound of his voice. You never spoke to each other again and he never spoke in class.
It pierced you to see his face everyday and remember what happened. Yet due to the matter of pride, you couldn't bring yourself to chat with him.
**********
The following day, you, Molly and Mary sat down outside to eat lunch. From the corner of your eye you've noticed Lily, smiling like crazy, sprinting towards you.
"Why so ecstatic, Lily?" - Mary grinned
"James is taking me to meet his family for the following half term!" - she smirked
Ever since she started dating James Potter, she's been more happy than usual. Even though she stated she's not expecting much from it, we all could sense her devotion to it.
As much as you wanted her to get together with Severus Snape, you couldn't do much here, for you wanted Harry to be born.
At the same time, Tom and his group were discussing matters, sat around their club's table.
"Severus." - Tom sneered "Surely, there must be a reason for your... lack of contribution."
"My apologies." - Severus has been a pain for Tom recently, simply because Snape's heartbreak over Lily made him a lot less useful.
"Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not as severely important." - Riddle frowned at Snape's saddened eyes
"Of course." - Severus nodded in submission.
"Now." - Tom looked at the boys sat around him "Shall we discuss the installment of Death Eaters?"
Later the same day,
You've noticed Severus attempting to chat to Lily but she completely ignored him.
Appearing pissed off, she rushed towards the Gryffindor's common room.
Following her trail, you discovered her sobbing on her bed.
"Lily, are you okay?"
"No. It's Severus. Ever since he called me a filthy mudblood we have stopped talking. He wants to make amends but I don't have the strength for it" - She wipped off a tear "I know I'm pathetic but I held him dear and it's hard to avoid him. Always have always will."
"He just wants the best for you, he didn't mean his words. He just hates the fact you're going out with his bully"
"James changed though, he matured"
"Indeed, but being thrown about and get made fun of everyday sticks with you for the rest of your life" - Gently, you stroked her hair to help her relax
"Severus changed too. He's evil now, hanging with that useless Tom Riddle." - her sadness immediately turned to bitterness. She brushed off your hand from her head "What did you ever see in him?"
"Something nobody else did I guess." - you didn't want to speak about him, her bringing up Tom was hurtful.
Lily noticed your expression change and it softened hers "Sorry..."
"Don't worry about it" - you flashed a warm smile
****************
Later in the evening, on the way to the library, you bumped into a firm figure, bouncing off their body and falling down. The other person's books and notes went flying.
"Sorry" - as you rubbed your head, you were ready to help them get back up, until you realized who it was. Oh fate. The ironic, sad fate. This was the only word you've said to Riddle for months.
"Don't bother." - He reached out for his books on the floor then snatched the ones from your hands. It seemed like he was avoiding eye contact, his eyebrows narrowed low.
As he was about to rush off, you quickly grabbed his hand and stopped him
"I'm sorry, Tom. About what happened, I wish it could of went better."
"No need." - he sneered "All forgotten" - he yanked his hand out of your grasp and walked off, leaving you in the cold.
"Shit" - you tapped your foot as you watched him leave. How can you stop him.
Puzzling on how to make things better, you followed him.
But as you turned around the corner at the end of the hall, you saw Tom speak to a man wearing a hood. He was not wearing the school's uniform. Stealthily, you hid behind a pillar, attempting to sneak glances here and there.
You watched Tom pass some sort of a letter to the man. Riddle looked around to make sure noone was watching. You immediately crouched down behind the cover right before your eyes could meet.
Seconds later, steadily, you stretched out your neck as an attempt of catching a glimpse towards the pair, but when you did, both of them were no longer there.
"What are you doing?" - startled, you fell down and twisted around only to see Tom staring at you.
"Oh, Tom!" - you awkwardly smiled "I was just looking for my... uhh... contact lenses! Yeah, contact lenses, however I can't find them"
"You don't wear contact lenses"
"How do you know?" - you pretended to be insulted "They're invisible"
"Which you will find when it's dark outside?"
"I mean..." - you huffed "Magic? Right? Yeah, with an accio charm!"
"Go ahead." - he folded his arms, smirking at your lies.
"Oh..." - you tapped your pockets "I left my wand..." - you stood up and awkwardly smiled "Oh well, time to go then"
But before you could rush off, Tom's voice stopped you "Spying on me, ?"
Your heart dropped. '?' Could he no longer call you by your real name? That was disrespectful of him.
"No." - you shook your head
Folding his arms again, he lifted an eyebrow "My matter is none of your business. Soon you will hear about it. Maybe in a year or ten."
"Sounds like a long wait to find out" -you knew you didn't have to find out, you already knew what was going to happen
"You'll be fine. I already offered you to join me but your heart had... different... wishes." - he face showed clear disappointment.
"That's what I was going to speak about."
"Hmph?"
"Me and Lily need your help"
"What makes you assume I'll help a tacky mudblood?"
"I was hoping you'd do it for me. You've known Severus ever since he joined your odd club. You already are so sure of his loyalty" - you approached Riddle "I was going to ask you, if any time, ever, you'll have a choice between undeniable power or a follower... you'll choose a follower."
Tom looked confused "What does the mudblood have to do with it?"
You shook your head "it does not matter. But will you do that for me?"
Riddle smirked, stretching out his hand to your face "Oh, poor ..." - he gently brushed your cheek with his thumb "How silly must you think that I will obey anyone's commands" - he deviously smirked
"It wasn't a command."
"No?" - his eyes widened in a mocking response "You assume you have the ability to get attached... disappear and then make a demand as if nothing ever happened?" - sour thoughts reflected through Riddle's eyes "You are indeed very silly, especially to assume I'll choose anything over the best thing. Power." - He was teasing you with his lips as he slowly pulled your face closer to his "Keep dreaming, my darling." - Suddenly, he pulled away, disappearing among the shadows of the dark halls, leaving you completely alone.
Meh - you shrugged. It was worth a try.
