"She seems to be. Very eager to come out," I answer him truthfully. Knight waves his hand to motion me to keep going.
"All healthy signs. How are the pups?"
"Aizen has never been better. He loves being with Knight,"
"As he should. And Ayrie?"
"She's having trouble with Aizen not sharing everything with her. She's excited about the way her own space is going to look, but she's not wrapping her head around not being in the same space as Aizen,"
"That's very common in twins. Since Ayrie is the oldest and a female, she's very attached to Aizen. I recommend taking her out on play dates without him. Show her that doing things on her own without Aizen is just as fun,"
"I think she feels something is off," I admit.
He always gives me a straight answer. It's very hard not to trust him or see him as a threat, all things considered. I guess I'm waiting for the hammer to come down. For now, I'm enjoying his wisdom.
"Has she been having night terrors again?"
"Yes,"
"Be vigilant. Ayrie has a very sensitive sense of danger. She must get that from you. What do you need with the Butterfly files?" he asks politely this time. I look down at the note in front of me.
We're looking for your bio dad, discretely.
-Lie- Midnight encourages me.
"I'm looking for my father. My real father and I don't want him to catch on to me. I'm not a very trusting person and with everything that's happened, I'd like to know as much as I can about him before I can think of approaching him,"
"I understand. I will send the codes. Next time come to me directly, Nathan. Don't bother your sister. Especially when she's holding down your position for you," he growls lowly. "It was lovely speaking with you, Phoebe. Tell my grandkids Pop-pop says hello,"
"Ayrie will be upset she missed your call,"
"I'll be seeing her soon. I received her list already,"
"I'm sorry, her list?"
"Yes, I asked her to send me a list of things she needed for her room. Did she not tell you?"
"She did not," I groan. "You don't have to,"
"I am delighted to. One thing I like about being the richest Alpha in the world is spending that wealth. Have a good day, you two," he says. "Finish this up, Ally,"
"Yes, Daddy," Allison says and clears her throat. "Oh, my god. Solange and Hillary are going to be pissed about Dad getting all mushy with your mate, Nate. I can't wait to tell them so they try to hunt you both down, you fucking pussy. Fuck you,"
"Wow," Perry laughs when the line goes dead. "Let me feed her to my team. They'd love to tear her apart. The prince loves them fresh and evil,"
"Fuck off," Knight rolls his eyes and then looks up at me. "That was very convincing. You're a very good liar,"
"It must be hereditary," I look up at Perry.
"I'm not a good liar," she laughs and I laugh with her until she stops.
"Bitch, what is she talking about?" Violetta points at her.
"Just so you know, Cousin. A choice was made," she smiles and looks over at Knight. "I believe it was the correct one. Knight can be an asshole. He's a little jaded. More than most. Be patient with him,"
"Are you going to tell us what she's talking about?" Violetta repeats politely when I set a plate in front of her.
I give the others theirs and begin my new morning routine following Mr. Knightly's schedule. It's Freddy approved.
"You're not eating what you made?" Violetta pulls away from the food.
"My parents have her on an energy boost diet until tomorrow night," Knightly explains.
"I can have some,"
I take my fork and take some eggs off the top. She watches me eat and doesn't start eating until I show her I swallowed it. Perry didn't hesitate to take two waffles and make herself a sandwich. They don't find the behavior odd.
-Watch them closely.- Midnight says.
I think back to what happened and try to process it. What am I really asking for here? When will a line be drawn in things I can take here? Will it ever stop? Is this temporary or will we be pushed out of here eventually if we don't join the packs?
"There's something I have to tell you guys," Perry says once she's done with her first sandwich.
Perry starts putting together the sandwich: waffle, bacon, cheese stick, eggs, syrup, and waffle. I notice the color of her fingernails. They're translucent, almost glass-like. She has them polished, and they look sharp as hell. Her movements are slow. They remind me of the way Aizen moves when he's trying not to wake Ayrie.
She's wearing black cargo pants and a soft pink T-shirt with Japanese letters that read "This is my good shirt." Her hair is up, and she has a bit of blush on—nothing too exaggerated. Her mascara was applied without having curled her eyelashes. Her beautiful silk white hair looks like satin. It's pulled up in a high ponytail with a moon-shaped broach holding it together.
Violetta takes lots of pride in her appearance. She's wearing a full face of makeup and making it look effortless with warm colors that accentuate the sharpness of her high cheekbones and jawline. I think she does it to seem older. Someone her size and as pretty can easily be mistaken for a little girl. She even contours the creases on her neck and collar bones.
She's also got on cargo pants, but they're paired with a crop top that costs more than my entire outfit. Her hair is pulled up into space buns, she braided with jewels, before wrapping them up. We are wearing the same tiny hoop diamond earrings I always wear and a thin white gold necklace with a diamond paw print hanging on it. Over, she's wearing a black SUPREME wind breaker. Her nails are also as sharp as Perry's but polished with a shiny nude shade. Her manners are impeccable.
"Done sizing us up?" Violetta smirks as she dabs her mouth with a napkin.
"Just trying to get to know you a little better," I look away.
"What's the verdict?" Perry grins. "Don't be shy,"
"Please," Knight smiles as he stuffs his mouth with a fork full of waffle.
"You're trying your best not to break something. You haven't stopped bouncing your leg, but it's not nerves. You're focusing your strength there so you don't have to use it anywhere else. You grew up surrounded by boys that made fun of you when you tried to be more feminine. You eat like you don't know when you're going to have your next meal. That tells me you've suffered hardships. You only stopped bouncing your leg when you opened the laptop. Electronics are your outlet,"
"Holy shit," Violetta smirks. "She's good. Now me,"
"You had everything growing up. My guess is you got into an argument with one of your parents and decided that you couldn't be around them without losing your mind and they left you out to the wolves. Your entire demeanor screams look at me, I'm more than you ever thought I would be and I fucking love that I can rub it in your face.
"Yet, you still respect how you were brought up, so you conduct yourself the way they raised you. A proper lady of your household and a bad bitch in your industry. The way you were completely disinterested with them tells me you wouldn't care for creating. More direction. Management. Kind of like Knight's Mom,"
"You can do that to them but you couldn't figure out you were surrounded by werewolves?" Knight scoffs.
"I didn't know werewolves existed on a grand scale. I did notice their reflexes and the weird stare downs, but if I'm being honest, I think I was not that different all along. I always chalked it up to the way I was brought up. I fought back. I had to learn how to adapt to having my stepmother coming after me the way she did. It wasn't too abnormal for me. Like I said before. I'm learning a lot about myself,"
"That was a great left hook. He never saw it coming," Violetta giggles. "Thank you for making my day, Phoebs. Never hold back. He needs you to slap some sense into him,"
