My husband's mistress has run away from home again.
This time, his way of coaxing her back is to sign a divorce agreement with me.
This cat-and-mouse game has played out countless times before my eyes.
I've refused before, but each time Magnus would punish me intensely in bed until I agreed.
He would sneer with superiority, examining my wet body, "Baby, satisfied? Now sign it."
But this time, I didn't cry or make a fuss. I calmly took the divorce papers and signed my name.
My husband patted my head with satisfaction, "Good girl, it's just a fake divorce. Once I've conquered them—that incomparable pair of beautiful sisters—I'll come back and be a proper husband to you."
I didn't argue, only bought a ticket to leave.
He doesn't know I'm already pregnant. I will marry my childhood friend—his sworn enemy—while carrying his child.
"Your divorce registration has been completed and will take effect officially in one month."
I took the contract from the clerk, but Magnus immediately snatched it from my hands and took a photo.
Then he stared at his phone with a silly smile, like a teenager in love.
The young woman behind the counter looked at me with pity.
To coax back his precious mistresses, I had performed this fake divorce charade with Magnus countless times.
Now the staff all recognized me.
After a while, Magnus finally looked up, his face suddenly showing a gentle expression as he pulled out a red velvet box.
He opened it in front of me. "Ophelia, they're beautiful, aren't they?"
"Do you think Clarissa and Phoebe will like them?"
Looking at the two ridiculously expensive rings in the box, I nodded calmly. "Very beautiful."
I unconsciously touched my ring finger, where only a faint mark remained.
A week ago, Clarissa had hidden in some fishing village, threatening to slit her wrists. She demanded that Magnus propose to her—specifically, with the wedding ring he had given me.
Those rings were custom-made, uniquely designed for us at the time.
He took my rings while I was sleeping, claiming they needed cleaning.
I knew he was lying. He flushed both rings—his and mine—down the toilet, just to make his mistresses smile.
When we got in the car, he instinctively reached to hold my hand.
The interior I had designed was now pink. Magnus noticed my gaze and hurriedly explained: "That silly girl is so childish. She insisted on changing the color. I'll change it back later."
I hummed softly, thinking that since we were divorced, the car naturally needed changing too.
Whether it was the strong scent of new perfume or the overwhelming smell of flowers filling the car, I couldn't stop sneezing.
Only then did Magnus finally look away from his phone. Seeing the rash spreading on my neck, he frowned. "I forgot you're allergic to pollen."
He immediately instructed the driver to take us to the hospital.
But while waiting at a red light, he received a phone call, and his face instantly darkened.
"Stop the car!"
Magnus turned to me. "Clarissa got splashed with hot water and now has a small blister. God, she's such a drama queen. She's crying and begging me to come over, though I've never seen her cry before. I need to go check on her."
"Ophelia, you'll have to go to the hospital by yourself."
He pushed me out of the car, leaving me standing bewildered in traffic.
I didn't return to reality until my phone chimed with a flight booking confirmation.
I called a taxi to the hospital.
The nurse seemed surprised to see me alone. "Your husband didn't come with you this time?"
I have severe allergies. Usually, if even a speck of dust made me sneeze, Magnus would rush me to the hospital like a man possessed.
He had previously postponed board meetings for me without exception.
I smiled and shook my head. "He's busy."
After my injection, there was commotion at the nurses' station.
"Oh my God, that guy is so handsome."
"Have you ever seen someone bring ninety-nine roses to a hospital for his girlfriend? And carrying both her and the roses!"
"It's just a minor burn that's already healed. If they had waited a bit longer, it would have gotten better on its own."
Through the window, my gaze fell on that luxurious bouquet of deep red roses.
The man was bending over, typing on his phone.
Ding!
A message from Magnus: "Ophelia, how are you feeling? Any better?"
Looking down again, he had already put away his phone and was leaving with the girl.
Their fingers were tightly intertwined, the rings on their hands sparkling.
I looked down at my phone and accepted two friend requests.
Their profile pictures were similar to Magnus's recently changed avatar. Previously, his photos had always featured me.
The young woman wasn't very polite:
Since you're already divorced from Magnus, please move out today and get your affairs in order.
They didn't know that out of guilt, Magnus had given me eighty percent of his assets in the divorce agreement, including the mansion we lived in.
I circled the relevant clause in the agreement and sent it to them:
[You should read this agreement.]
But they fell silent.
Then the phone rang: "Ophelia, what theme do you want for the wedding?"
