Thinking about how Magnus had acted completely as if he didn't know me in the banquet hall earlier, I figured that if he really wanted to distance himself from me, there was no need for me to be presumptuous and take the initiative to greet him.
Gradually calming down, I lowered my head and pretended to continue looking at my phone.
Just then, the two children at home sent me a message: "Is Mommy coming home?"
Though it was just a simple message, the image of two well-behaved and sensible children immediately appeared in my mind, and my mood became much more pleasant.
My fingers quickly glided across the screen as I replied:
"Mommy will be home soon. You and Sophia need to be good, okay?"
After sending the message, the elevator quickly reached the first floor.
I was just about to step out when Magnus moved faster than me.
I wanted to let him go first, since he seemed to be in a hurry to leave.
Who would have thought that Magnus would stop at the elevator entrance, showing no intention of leaving at all.
What did this mean?
My breathing immediately hitched as I stood there, not knowing what to do.
Time passed second by second. Just as the elevator doors were about to close, the man in front of me still hadn't moved. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore.
I looked up, staring at his back, and spoke first: "If you're not getting out, could you move aside?"
Hearing this, Magnus slowly turned around, his cold eyes containing a chilling aura.
He stared at me intently, making my scalp tingle as I involuntarily looked away.
Magnus's lips curved slightly upward, his tone mocking: "You're talking to me?"
I looked at him speechlessly: "There are only two of us here, aren't there?"
If I wasn't talking to him, was I having a conversation with thin air?
"Oh."
Magnus responded indifferently, his eyes showing a trace of amusement: "I thought you were blind and couldn't see such a big person like me."
I was stunned for a moment, not understanding what he meant.
Coming back to my senses, I was stunned again. So he was blaming me for not greeting him?
This was quite laughable.
Wasn't he the one who initially didn't want to have any connection with me?
Thinking of what he had said in the banquet hall, I felt justified.
"Not blind."
I raised my head, fearlessly meeting his gaze, my tone calm but challenging: "However, I indeed don't pay much attention to people who are irrelevant."
As soon as these words came out, I clearly felt the atmosphere in the elevator drop several degrees.
"What a fine 'irrelevant person'!"
Magnus's mouth curved into a cold smile, his handsome face completely devoid of warmth, his tone slow and icy.
"It seems you're not only blind but also forgetful. Do you need me to remind you who I am?"
As his words fell one by one, his steps also drew closer to me.
I instinctively stepped back, but the space in the elevator was really limited. After just a few steps, my back was against the elevator wall.
Then Magnus extended his slender hand, slapping it against the elevator wall with a sharp sound, trapping me.
He glared at me through gritted teeth, his eyes full of fury: "Do you need me to remind you that we had a marriage? Do you need me to tell you how you abandoned me six years ago? Do you need me to tell you that you're my ex-wife, and we still have..."
He paused, his words falling into silence, as if deliberately omitting the final words.
Hearing him bring up those old matters, my ears burned, but my heart became even more confused.
I didn't understand why this man was blocking me here, bringing up old grievances.
Abandonment? Wasn't he the one who first cheated with his pregnant mistress and left me in a fire before I left him?
I rolled my eyes and responded calmly: "Sorry, the feeling of being abandoned in a fire is hard to forget..."
I looked up to meet his cold gaze, my tone carrying a provocation I wasn't even aware of: "Does Master Magnus still have feelings for me? Are you talking to me this time because you want to be my male lover?"
After all, my breakup with Julian had been kept secret, so I bet he didn't know.
Seeing his obvious anger, his chest seeming to heave as if he couldn't breathe, I felt a surge of satisfaction.
