Magnus immediately dropped me and rushed to them, pulling them out of the room.
The force knocked me to the ground. I lifted my head from the floor and screamed: "Magnus..."
The man who had rushed through the door suddenly turned back, but was interrupted by Clarissa's soft moans.
"Hold on, Clarissa. I'll get you out right away!"
He didn't look at me again and walked away without turning back.
As the flames consumed me, I closed my eyes in despair...
Three days later, Magnus held a wedding ceremony for Clarissa and Phoebe in Bangladesh.
The three of them went to Europe for their honeymoon, where Magnus played the role of faithful husband for a full month.
He posted a photo on Instagram: two bright red bloodstains on hotel bed sheets. He made a victory sign at the camera.
The comments were full of praise: "Two wives, living the dream! Mr. Evermere, you're absolutely legendary!"
"Congratulations, buddy! You hit the ultimate jackpot!"
However, as Magnus leaned against the balcony smoking, he felt no joy of conquest. Instead, he refreshed his screen over and over, tormented by restless emotions.
After rescuing Clarissa and Phoebe from the fire, they had tearfully claimed I deliberately tried to burn them alive.
He had intended to save me too, but their accusations made him hesitate.
He had almost lost his prizes before he could even claim them, so he decided to teach me a lesson.
He instructed security to wait five minutes before coming back for me, then took the Davis sisters straight to the airport.
He thought he would finish what he started, then return to sweet-talk and persuade me.
But for the entire month since, I hadn't replied to any of his messages.
Magnus's heart sank. Unable to wait any longer, he returned to the bedroom, grabbed his clothes, and headed for the door.
The Davis sisters, still basking in post-coital bliss, frantically grabbed his arms. "Magnus, where are you going?"
Magnus impatiently shook off their hands. "Home."
But when he returned, the scene before him nearly drove him mad...
Magnus stared in shock at the sight before him—the basement had become a charred ruin.
After a long moment, he kicked the security guard hard in the stomach. "Where is Ophelia? I told you to save her!"
The guard hung his head, trembling as he answered: "Sir, we don't know what happened. Mrs. Evermere seems to have vanished into thin air. The firefighters said they found no remains inside."
"We tried to report this to you but couldn't get through."
"You instructed us before leaving not to disturb you and the Davis sisters, so we eventually gave up. We thought we'd wait until you returned to report."
Just then, a mailman's voice came from outside: "Mr. Evermere! Your mail!"
The guard saw this as a chance to escape Magnus's wrath, rushed forward to retrieve it, and respectfully handed it to him.
Magnus opened the envelope with a grim expression—inside was a divorce certificate.
His fingers trembled uncontrollably as he murmured: "I forgot to pick it up... Ophelia must know, she must be heartbroken."
Then he comforted himself: "It doesn't matter. Once I find Ophelia and comfort her properly, we can remarry."
Before returning to the bedroom, he took one last look at the basement ruins.
There, he found that all traces of my existence had been erased. The entire room was brand new—a princess bed had replaced our original one, pink curtains replaced the original plain ones, even the floor mats were new.
Magnus suddenly flew into a rage: "Throw all this garbage away!"
"Where are my wife's things? Bring them all back!"
The butler nervously approached. "Sir, when the Davis sisters moved in, they ordered us to throw away all of Mrs. Evermere's belongings. They said it was your instruction."
Magnus exploded in fury, punching the butler in the face. "Who told you to listen to them?!"
The butler hung his head in silence.
Magnus refreshed his phone again and found I still hadn't replied.
His calls went unanswered.
Magnus lowered his eyes and anxiously typed another message:
Ophelia, I'm back. I promise I won't play games anymore. Stop hiding, okay?
I swear, from now on, I'll be faithful to you. Please come back.
But this time, he discovered I had completely blocked him.
Magnus was furious, smashing his phone on the ground and roaring at the security staff: "Find her! I want Ophelia Grimwald in front of me within three days!"
Meanwhile, Julian Hayes sat by my hospital bed, peeling an apple for me.
"Feeling better today?"
I nodded. "Thank you."
He smiled, cutting the apple into small pieces. "No need to be so formal—after all, we're getting married soon."
I suddenly felt a lightness I had never experienced before.
After Magnus handed me those divorce papers, I felt completely empty. Just then, my childhood neighbor Julian texted asking how I was doing.
Without much thought, I asked if he would marry me.
I saw him typing for a while and immediately regretted it. I was about to explain when his reply came.
Simple: "I'm flying back immediately to introduce you to my parents. They miss you very much."
By then, I had completely lost faith in Magnus.
I thought marrying someone else would at least free me from his constant harm.
But I never expected what happened next. If Julian hadn't arrived in time, I would certainly be dead.
Recalling everything I had experienced, I clenched my fists, hatred blazing in my eyes.
I suddenly grabbed Julian's wrist, looking directly into his eyes. "When are we getting married?"
Julian chuckled softly, patting my head. "Still as impatient as when we were children. Once you're better, we'll get married."
