His fingers trembled as he checked again.
"This is directly from the Hayes family?"
The butler nodded. "Yes, sir."
Magnus nervously swallowed, his face pale.
"Why is the bride Ophelia Grimwald? Is it someone with the same name?"
The butler looked equally puzzled: "It must be someone else. It seems the Hayes family values this daughter-in-law greatly."
"Mrs. Evermere's background..."
Hearing the butler's words, Magnus immediately relaxed.
"Yes, it can't be my Ophelia."
The Hayes family were Boston royalty, and Ophelia's background could never meet their standards.
He threw the invitation back to the butler. "Prepare an appropriate gift. The Hayes family deserves respect."
When I entered on Julian's arm, Magnus jumped up from the guest section.
"Ophelia! How is this possible?"
He rushed over, trying to grab my hand. "You're my wife! How can you marry someone else? Did he force you? Come with me!"
I smiled gently and withdrew my hand.
"Mr. Evermere, long time no see."
Magnus stared wide-eyed. "What did you call me?"
I smiled and repeated: "Mr. Evermere."
Before he could speak, I teased him: "Mr. Evermere, having just married your twin mistresses, you've taken time from your busy schedule to attend Julian's and my wedding. How honored we are."
Julian stepped in front of me. "Mr. Evermere, please step aside. Our ceremony is about to begin."
Julian's security quickly escorted Magnus back to his seat.
Magnus kept staring at me, shouting loudly: "Ophelia! Ophelia, we only divorced as a pretense. How can you marry someone else?"
"Magnus Evermere, don't be so arrogant. Do you think I can't marry anyone but you?"
Magnus was completely shocked by my words, losing all strength to resist.
He watched helplessly as I said "I do."
As I placed the ring on Julian's finger.
As Julian and I kissed on stage.
Despair flickered in his eyes.
Meanwhile, I felt an immense sense of victory.
But it wasn't enough, nowhere near enough.
As the wedding ended, I smiled coldly, walked up to him, and whispered in his ear:
"Magnus Evermere, from the moment you fell in love with those mistresses, I stopped loving you. Here's more good news—I'm pregnant, five months along."
Five months ago I was still Mrs. Evermere, so obviously, the child's father was him.
Magnus gripped my wrist tightly, his eyes bloodshot, looking like he'd gone mad.
"You can't marry him! Ophelia, you're carrying my child!"
The surrounding guests began to stir, media cameras focusing on us one after another.
I looked at him impassively, then turned to Julian.
He nodded, telling the nearby security: "Remove him."
Two well-trained private guards quickly approached from both sides of the stage, efficiently restraining Magnus and dragging him from the guest area.
"Let me go! Ophelia, listen to me—we only divorced as a pretense! You can't humiliate me like this!" he roared, his face pale as paper.
I stepped back, and Julian stepped forward, his gaze firm as a mountain.
"Mr. Evermere," he said calmly, "from today on, I will take responsibility for everything—caring for Ophelia and the child she carries. No matter how long the future, I will never let her shed another tear."
Magnus's eyes were bloodshot, his breathing erratic.
"You're lying... how could she choose you? You're just a..." Before he could finish, Julian simply said quietly:
"Whom she chooses doesn't require your approval."
We left side by side, heading to the rooftop helicopter pad.
Before we entered the cabin, I turned back one last time to look at him.
In that glance, there was no love, no hate, only complete farewell.
High in the air, the helicopter flew steadily.
I leaned back in my seat, gazing at the rolling sea of clouds outside, gently placing my hand on my rounded belly.
Julian sat beside me, asking softly: "Do you regret it?"
I shook my head, a weary smile at the corner of my eyes:
"From the moment I decided never to look back, I was free."
