I stopped asking to visit Mom's grave, but something inside me just... gave up.
I started sleeping more and more, my waking hours growing shorter each day.
Maybe it was time to say a proper goodbye to Lilith.
Strangely, over the next few days, my body grew more painful but my mind became clearer—that cruel joke terminal patients call a final rally.
Word must have gotten out about my "improvement," because Piper couldn't stay away any longer.
She came while Damien was out, probably thinking she'd have a clear shot at me.
The moment Lilith saw her, she snarled, "We don't allow bitches or bees in here. Get out before I rearrange your face so badly your own mother won't recognize you."
But Piper did something completely unexpected—she dropped to her knees beside my bed, tears streaming down her face.
"Celine, please, I'm begging you. I'm carrying Damien's pup. You're dying anyway, so can't you just do one decent thing and give me back my mate?"
Three months pregnant. The same three months I'd been dying in this hospital bed.
So while Damien was telling me how much he "needed" me, he was busy getting his mistress pregnant.

Piper grabbed at my arm, trying to pull me toward her, and I was too weak to resist. I nearly tumbled off the bed.
Lilith shoved herself between us, getting clawed in the process as she protected me.
Suddenly someone grabbed Piper by the hair and yanked her backward.
Damien looked absolutely murderous, his voice dropping to that dangerous Alpha growl.
"What did I tell you about coming near my mate? I said I'd fucking destroy you if you tried this shit!"
Piper's expression shifted, mouth opening to respond, but Lilith had reached her breaking point. She grabbed a pillow and started beating both of them with it.
"Get this whore out of here! Both of you, get out!"
