Ishani woke up to the scent of coffee and the faint sound of the city waking up outside.
For a moment, she forgot where she was.
Then, memories of last night came flooding back—the warning message, Aarav’s intensity, the way he had looked at her… the way he had touched her hand.
She sighed, running a hand through her messy hair before stepping out of the bedroom.
Aarav was already up, standing in the kitchen, wearing his usual black T-shirt and sweatpants, stirring a cup of coffee like he wasn’t the most frustrating man on earth.
She leaned against the counter, arms crossed. “Aise lag raha hai jaise tu raat bhar soya bhi nahi.” (“It looks like you didn’t sleep at all.”)
Aarav barely glanced at her. “Tum bhi toh jag rahi thi.” (“You were awake too.”)
Ishani rolled her eyes. “Agar tu mujhe har second track karega toh main mar jaungi.” (“If you keep tracking my every second, I’ll die.”)
Aarav smirked, handing her a cup. “Mere hote hue marna allowed nahi hai.” (“Dying isn’t allowed when I’m around.”)
She huffed but took the coffee. The warmth spread through her, but it wasn’t just the caffeine.
There was something different between them this morning. The air was heavier, charged with something unsaid.
Ishani cleared her throat. “Mera flat kab arrange kar raha hai, bodyguard?” (“When are you arranging my flat, bodyguard?”)
Aarav leaned against the counter, taking a sip of his coffee. “Already done.”
She almost choked. “KYA?!”
Aarav smirked. “Ek din pehle decide kiya, aur aaj already ho gaya? Waah, Aarav Malhotra, tu toh sach mein powerful hai.” (“We decided this just yesterday, and it’s already done? Wow, Aarav Malhotra, you really are powerful.”)
His smirk didn’t waver. “Mujhe power pasand nahi. Control pasand hai.” (“I don’t like power. I like control.”)
Ishani felt her breath hitch. Why did that sound way too attractive? 😳
She shook her head, trying to focus. “Tu decide nahi karega main kahan rahungi.” (“You don’t get to decide where I live.”)
Aarav took another sip. “Tu decide karegi ki tujhe jeena hai ya marna?” (“Will you decide if you want to live or die?”)
She groaned. “Tu hamesha har argument jeet jaata hai, hai na?” (“You always win every argument, don’t you?”)
Aarav smirked. “Ab samajh aaya?” (“Now you understand?”)
Ishani rolled her eyes but took another sip of her coffee, hiding her smile behind the cup.
Later that day
Ishani’s new flat was perfect—simple, comfortable, and most importantly, secure as hell.
She didn’t have to ask to know Aarav had arranged for extra security measures.
“Tu lawyer hai ya mafia?” she muttered, looking at the high-tech locks on the door. (“Are you a lawyer or the mafia?”)
Aarav smirked. “Agar main mafia hota toh tujhe kabka kidnap kar chuka hota.” (“If I were the mafia, I’d have kidnapped you by now.”)
Ishani raised an eyebrow. “Haan? Aur phir kya karta?” (“Oh? And then what would you do?”)
Aarav’s smirk deepened. He stepped closer, voice low.
“Phir tumhe kabhi jaane nahi deta.” (“Then I’d never let you go.”)
🔥 Damn him. Again. And again. 🔥
Ishani’s cheeks burned, but before she could come up with a comeback, Aarav turned away like he hadn’t just short-circuited her brain.
“Lock the doors. Call me if anything happens,” he said casually.
Ishani exhaled, rolling her eyes. “Jee haan, mere overprotective rakshak.” (“Yes, my overprotective protector.”)
Aarav’s lips twitched, but he didn’t say anything as he walked out.
But as soon as the door shut behind him, Ishani realized something.
Her heart wasn’t racing because of fear.
