Aarav’s grip on Ishani’s wrist tightened as they stood hidden in the shadows of the dimly lit hallway. The footsteps that had been chasing them had finally stopped, but the tension in the air was suffocating.
Ishani could feel his heartbeat—fast, steady, controlled.
Her own pulse, however, was out of rhythm, especially with the way he was holding her so close. ❤️🔥
But now was not the time to focus on that.
Aarav took a slow breath, his voice low. “Hum wapas nahi ja sakte.” (“We can’t go back.”)
Ishani nodded. “Par ab kya?” (“But now what?”)
Aarav checked his phone again. The message was still there.
“RUN.”
Whoever sent it knew they were in danger.
Ishani glanced toward the hallway. “Agar forensic records delete ho rahe hain, iska matlab jo bhi sach hai, woh sirf kisi ek case se nahi juda hai. Yeh koi bada scam ho sakta hai.” (“If the forensic records are being erased, it means the truth isn’t linked to just one case. This could be a huge scam.”)
Aarav’s jaw tightened. “Aur jo bhi iske peeche hai, woh humein marne ke liye ready hai.” (“And whoever is behind it is ready to kill us.”)
She swallowed hard. The thought was terrifying, but they had come too far to stop now.
Suddenly, the security alarm stopped ringing.
Silence.
Ishani’s breath hitched. “Yeh achha sign nahi hai.” (“This is not a good sign.”)
Aarav nodded. "Iska matlab yeh hai ki jo bhi hai, woh chala gaya hai… ya phir humein pakadne ke liye wait kar raha hai." (“It means whoever was here has left… or is waiting to catch us.”)
He grabbed her hand. “Hum chhoti gate se nikalte hain.” (“We’ll take the side exit.”)
They moved cautiously, staying close to the walls, listening for any movement. The university was empty at this hour—too empty.
When they reached the emergency exit, Aarav stopped. He took out his phone and sent a quick message to a secure number.
Ishani frowned. “Kise text kiya?” (“Who did you text?”)
Aarav didn’t answer immediately. His eyes scanned the area. Then, he looked at her. "Mere contacts me ek aadmi hai jo mujhe forensic records ki backup copy de sakta hai." ("I have a contact who might have a backup of the forensic records.")
She exhaled in relief. “Toh hum evidence fir se le sakte hain?” (“So we can get the evidence back?”)
Aarav nodded. “Lekin uske pehle humein yahan se nikalna hoga.” (“But first, we need to get out of here.”)
Ishani turned the door handle. Locked.
"Shit."
Aarav stepped forward and pulled out a pocket knife. With precise movements, he worked on the lock. Within seconds, it clicked open.
Ishani raised a brow. “Impressive.”
Aarav smirked, pushing the door open. "Main sirf courtroom me chalaak nahi hoon." ("I’m not just clever in the courtroom.")
She rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the slight smile on her lips.
They stepped outside into the cool night air. The parking lot was nearly empty, except for Aarav’s car parked at the far end.
Everything was still.
Too still.
Ishani’s gut twisted. Something wasn’t right.
"Aarav," she whispered.
And then—
A gunshot.
Aarav reacted instantly, pulling Ishani behind a pillar as the bullet hit the ground near them.
Ishani’s heart pounded. "Koi humein dekh raha tha." ("Someone was watching us.")
Aarav pulled out his phone again, dialing a number. "We need a way out. Abhi." ("Now.")
The line went dead.
Aarav clenched his jaw. "Gadi tak pohonchna padega." ("We need to reach the car.")
Ishani nodded, her breathing shallow.
They moved cautiously, using the shadows as cover. Another shot rang out, but it missed.
Aarav’s grip on her wrist tightened. "Run!"
They sprinted toward the car, Ishani’s heart hammering in her chest. As soon as they reached, Aarav unlocked it and pushed her inside before sliding into the driver’s seat.
He started the engine and hit the accelerator. The tires screeched as they sped out of the parking lot.
Ishani looked back. A dark figure stood under the streetlight, watching them leave.
She swallowed hard. "Woh kaun tha?" ("Who was that?")
Aarav’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. "Pata nahi. Par ek baat clear hai—yeh sirf ek simple case nahi hai." ("I don’t know. But one thing is clear—this isn’t just a simple case.")
Ishani exhaled. "Ab humein kya karna hai?" ("What do we do now?")
Aarav’s eyes darkened. “Ab sirf ek hi option hai.” (“Now there’s only one option.”)
Ishani frowned. "Kya?" ("What?")
Aarav glanced at her.
"We find out the truth—before they find us."
