The car sped through the empty streets, the city lights flashing past in a blur. Ishani sat rigid in her seat, her hands clenched into fists. Someone had tried to kill them. And not just scare them—eliminate them.
She turned to Aarav, his face sharp in concentration as he maneuvered through the roads. His jaw was locked, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.
"Hum kahan ja rahe hain?" ("Where are we going?") she finally asked.
Aarav didn’t take his eyes off the road. “Mujhe ek bande se milna hai. Uske paas forensic records ki backup ho sakti hai.” ("I need to meet someone. He might have a backup of the forensic records.")
Ishani’s breath hitched. "Tu uspar bharosa kar sakta hai?" ("Can you trust him?")
Aarav’s lips pressed into a thin line. "Abhi mere paas koi aur option nahi hai." ("Right now, I don’t have any other option.")
Ishani exhaled. Her mind was still spinning from the events of the night.
Who was behind this? Why were they going to such lengths to erase all traces of the case?
More importantly—what did they know that made them a threat?
She shuddered as she remembered the figure standing under the streetlight. Watching. Waiting.
Aarav suddenly pulled the car into a deserted alley, cutting the headlights.
Ishani frowned. "Yeh kya kar raha hai?" ("What are you doing?")
Aarav turned to her, his eyes intense, unreadable.
"Hum pehle kisi aur jagah rukenge," he said. "Agar koi humein follow kar raha hai, toh mujhe confirm karna hai." ("We’re stopping somewhere else first. If someone’s following us, I need to confirm it.")
Ishani swallowed. She hadn’t even considered that possibility.
Aarav took out his phone and typed something quickly before placing it in his pocket.
"Stay close to me," he said, opening the door.
She stepped out, her heart pounding. The alley was quiet, except for the distant hum of the city. Aarav moved cautiously, scanning their surroundings.
They walked a few steps when Ishani suddenly felt a presence.
She turned sharply.
A shadow moved at the alley’s entrance.
"Aarav," she whispered urgently.
He followed her gaze, his muscles tensing. Someone was there. Watching.
Before either of them could react, a voice echoed in the dark.
"Tum dono ne galti kar di." ("You two made a mistake.")
🔥 And then, a gun cocked.
Ishani’s blood turned cold.
Aarav moved instantly. In a single motion, he grabbed Ishani and pulled her behind him.
His voice was calm. Deadly. "Tumhe lagta hai, main bina backup ke aaya hoon?" ("You think I came without backup?")
Silence.
Then—a low chuckle. "Acha hai. Dekhte hain tum kitne samajdaar ho." ("Good. Let’s see how smart you really are.")
And just like that, two more figures stepped into the alley.
Ishani’s breath hitched. They were surrounded.
Aarav’s grip on her wrist tightened, his body tense with calculation. He was outnumbered. But not helpless.
Ishani could feel it in the way he stood—the sharp edge of danger beneath his control.
Her mind raced. Think, Ishani. Think.
She reached for the small pocket knife she always carried, keeping it hidden in her palm.
Aarav spoke first. "Yeh tumhari last warning hai. Hatt jao." ("This is your last warning. Step aside.")
The leader tilted his head. "Nahi toh?" ("Or what?")
🔥 Aarav smirked. And that’s when Ishani knew—he already had a plan.
"Toh phir tum yahan se zinda nahi jaoge," Aarav said smoothly. ("Then you won’t leave here alive.")
And at that moment—a black SUV turned into the alley at full speed.
The headlights flashed brightly, blinding the men.
Aarav grabbed Ishani’s hand. "RUN!"
She didn’t think—she just moved.
The SUV skidded to a stop. A man stepped out, gun in hand. "Aarav! Jaldi!" ("Aarav! Hurry!")
Aarav pushed Ishani toward the car, shielding her as another gunshot rang out. Missed.
They dove into the backseat as the driver hit the gas. The SUV roared out of the alley, tires screeching.
🔥 Ishani’s breath was ragged, her hands trembling. She looked at Aarav—his expression was unreadable, but his eyes were burning.
She wasn’t sure if it was rage, adrenaline, or something else entirely.
Finally, she exhaled. "Who the hell was that?"
Aarav ran a hand through his hair, his voice lower than usual. "Woh sirf warning de rahe the." ("They were just giving a warning.")
She swallowed. "Toh phir asli attack kab hoga?" ("So when will the real attack happen?")
Aarav met her gaze.
"Jald hi." ("Soon.")
The SUV sped through the night, taking them deeper into a game far deadlier than they had imagined.
