Smoke filled the air as the distant sound of gunfire echoed through the estate grounds. The blast had knocked out the power to the security system, plunging the mansion into eerie darkness. Aarav stood by the study’s large window, his sharp eyes scanning the perimeter.
Ishani grabbed his arm. “Aarav, yeh log sirf dhamki dene nahi aaye hain. Yeh marne ya maarne ke iraade se aaye hain.” ("Aarav, they aren’t here just to threaten. They’ve come to kill or be killed.")
Aarav turned to her, his gaze unwavering. “Toh unhe maarna hi padega.” ("Then we’ll have to kill them.")
Ishani felt a shiver run down her spine. Aarav had always been intense, but tonight, he was something else—a man completely in control, unshaken, unafraid.
His father, Rohit Malhotra, loaded a gun with practiced ease. “Aarav, tum study mein raho. Tumhe kisi bhi halat mein safe rehna hai.” ("Aarav, stay in the study. You need to stay safe at all costs.")
Aarav let out a humorless chuckle. “Aap mujhe safe rehne ke liye keh rahe hain? Main target hoon, Dad. Agar main chup baith gaya toh ye log sochenge ki Malhotra sirf courtroom me ladte hain.” ("You’re asking me to stay safe? I’m the target, Dad. If I sit quietly, these people will think Malhotras only fight in courtrooms.")
Asha Malhotra placed a hand on his shoulder. “Lekin courtroom ke bahar ladne ki bhi ek limit hoti hai, Aarav.” ("But there’s a limit to fighting outside the courtroom too, Aarav.")
Aarav smiled slightly. “Meri limit wahan khatam hoti hai jahan dushman shuru hota hai.” ("My limit ends where my enemy begins.")
Ishani had no idea what that sentence meant !. Maybe it was because Aarav didn’t just fight battles—he finished wars.
Suddenly, a security guard burst in. “Sir! Woh log andar aa gaye hain.” ("Sir! They’ve breached the mansion.")
Without hesitation, Rohit nodded at Aarav. “Bas, aur time nahi hai. Ishani ko yahan se nikalna hoga.” ("There’s no time. Ishani has to leave.")
Ishani clenched her fists. “Main kahin nahi ja rahi.” ("I’m not going anywhere.")
Aarav turned to her, his expression dark. “Yeh koi mazak nahi hai, Ishani. Tu yahan rahi toh…” ("This isn’t a joke, Ishani. If you stay here…")
She lifted her chin defiantly. “Toh?” ("Then?")
Aarav grabbed her wrist, pulling her dangerously close. His voice was barely a whisper. “Toh agar tujhe kuch ho gaya, toh main is duniya ka sabse bada criminal ban jaunga.” ("Then if something happens to you, I’ll become the world’s biggest criminal.")
Ishani’s breath hitched. There was something terrifyingly raw in his words. It wasn’t just a threat—it was a promise.
Before she could respond, gunshots rang out from the hallway.
Aarav let her go and turned toward the door. “Game shuru ho chuka hai.” ("The game has begun.")
And this time, he wasn’t playing to win. He was playing to destroy.
