The night was far from over. The Malhotra estate was still under heavy security, but Aarav knew this wasn’t the end. It was only the beginning.
He stood by the massive glass window of his study, staring at the darkness outside. The attack had been precise—too precise to be random. Whoever was behind this wasn’t just testing them. They wanted to send a message.
Ishani sat on the couch, still holding the gun she never fired. Her hands were trembling slightly, but she tried to hide it. Aarav saw through her act instantly.
“Ab bhi shock mein hai?” ("Still in shock?") he asked, his voice quieter than usual.
She glanced up at him. “Main forensic science padhti hoon, yeh sab expected nahi tha.” ("I study forensic science. This wasn’t expected.")
Aarav smirked. “Forensics wale sirf saboot dhoondhte hain. Jab goli chalti hai toh saboot nahi, jaan bachana padta hai.” ("Forensics experts only search for evidence. When bullets start flying, you don’t look for proof, you save your life.")
She frowned. “Toh phir tu bachane kyun aaya?” ("Then why did you come to save me?")
Aarav stepped closer, his eyes dark with something unreadable. “Agar tu mar gayi, toh main bhi kisi kaam ka nahi rahunga.” ("If you die, I’ll be useless too.")
Ishani’s heart pounded. There was something terrifying about the way he said it—as if he wasn’t exaggerating.
Before she could reply, Rohit Malhotra entered the room, his usual calm now mixed with something sharper. “Humein yeh case officially handle karna hoga. Courtroom aur crime scene dono pe hamari jagah banani padegi.” ("We need to handle this case officially. We need to own both the courtroom and the crime scene.")
Asha Malhotra nodded. “Aur jo mastermind hai, usse hamesha ke liye khatam karna hoga.” ("And the mastermind behind this needs to be eliminated forever.")
Aarav’s jaw clenched. “Pehle pata toh karein ki yeh mastermind hai kaun.” ("First, we need to find out who this mastermind is.")
Ishani’s phone buzzed. She looked at the screen and her eyes widened. “Yeh toh impossible hai…” ("This is impossible…")
Aarav moved to her side, reading the message over her shoulder. His expression turned dark.
The game is bigger than you think. Stop now, or you’ll lose everything.
Aarav exhaled sharply. He wasn’t afraid. He was just done playing defense.
He looked at Ishani. “Agar yeh log sochte hain ki main peeche hatne wala hoon, toh inhe Malhotra naam ka matlab samajhne ki zaroorat hai.” ("If they think I’m going to back down, they need to understand what the name Malhotra means.")
And this time, he was going to make sure they never forgot it.
