Aarav stared at the message on Ishani's phone, his smirk fading into something darker.
"One day."
That's what Rudra Seth had given him. One day before he made his move.
Ishani's pulse raced. "Aarav, this isn't just a warning. Yeh direct threat hai." ("This is a direct threat.")
Aarav's eyes glinted with something dangerous. "Mujhse zyada samajhdar banne ki zaroorat nahi hai, forensic queen." ("No need to act smarter than me, forensic queen.")
Ishani crossed her arms. "Mujhe sirf forensic queen kehkar ignore mat kar. This is serious."
Aarav leaned in, his voice low. "Aur tu sochti hai mujhe samajh nahi aaya?" ("And you think I don't understand?")
His gaze locked onto hers, intense, unwavering. "Woh mujhe dharne ki koshish kar raha hai. Aur main usko jalane wala hoon." ("He's trying to threaten me. And I'm about to burn him down.")
Ishani exhaled sharply.
That was the thing about Aarav—he was never the prey. He was always the hunter.
Midnight – Rohit Malhotra's Estate
The Malhotra mansion wasn't just a house—it was a fortress. Guards patrolled the perimeter, security cameras covered every angle, and inside, a war council was forming.
Rohit Malhotra sat at the head of the long table, his piercing eyes scanning the gathered group. His wife, Asha Malhotra, sat beside him—calm, unreadable, but just as dangerous as her husband.
Aarav leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers against the armrest. Ishani sat beside him, tense but focused.
Rohit exhaled. "Toh tumhe ek din ka waqt mila hai." ("So, you have one day.")
Aarav smirked. "Ek din kaafi hai." ("One day is enough.")
Rohit's gaze sharpened. "Rudra Seth abhi tak soch raha hoga ki tum sirf ek law student ho. Lekin ab use samajh aayega ki tum kis khandan se ho." ("Rudra Seth still thinks you're just a law student. But now, he'll understand which family you belong to.")
Aarav's jaw clenched. "Main apne naam se nahi jeetunga, main apni akal se jeetunga." ("I won't win with my name. I'll win with my mind.")
Asha Malhotra spoke. "Aur tumhe ek chhoti madad mil sakti hai." ("And you might get a little help.")
She slid a file across the table. Aarav flipped it open—and his eyes darkened.
"Yeh RAW ki file hai." ("This is a RAW file.")
Rohit smirked. "Ek purani dost ne bheji hai." ("An old friend sent it.")
Ishani's breath hitched. Agent Nira.
Her mother—the ghost in the intelligence world, the woman no one had ever truly seen.
Aarav met her gaze. "Tujhe kuch kehna hai?" ("Do you have anything to say?")
Ishani swallowed. "Agar yeh Agent Nira ne bheji hai, toh iska matlab hai... yeh sirf ek normal case nahi hai." ("If Agent Nira sent this, then it means... this isn't just a normal case.")
Silence filled the room.
Then Rohit leaned forward, his voice deadly calm. "Rudra Seth sirf ek smuggler nahi hai. Uske connections RAW tak jaate hain." ("Rudra Seth isn't just a smuggler. His connections reach RAW.")
Aarav's grip tightened on the file.
This wasn't just about revenge. This was bigger.
Much bigger.
Early Morning – Ishani's Apartment
Ishani sat on the edge of her bed, running a hand through her hair. Everything was spiraling too fast.
Aarav, Rohit Malhotra, RAW, her mother... this wasn't just a fight. This was war.
The door creaked open.
She looked up as Aarav stepped inside, his shirt unbuttoned at the top, his sleeves rolled up. He looked tired—but there was something else too. Determination.
Aarav walked toward her, his voice softer than before. "Tu thak gayi hai?" ("Are you tired?")
Ishani let out a breath. "Aarav, yeh sab bahut bada ho raha hai." ("Aarav, this is getting too big.")
Aarav crouched in front of her, his hands resting on her knees. "Aur tu soch rahi hai ki main isko chhod dunga?" ("And you think I'll back down?")
Ishani's throat tightened. "Agar tujhe kuch ho gaya toh?" ("What if something happens to you?")
Aarav reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. His touch lingered.
"Mujhe sirf ek cheez ka darr hai, Ishani." ("I'm only afraid of one thing, Ishani.")
She frowned. "Kya?" ("What?")
Aarav's gaze dropped to her lips.
Then, before she could react, he kissed her.
This kiss was different. It wasn't rushed, it wasn't desperate—it was slow, deep, and consuming. Ishani's hands gripped his shirt as he pulled her closer, his fingers digging into her waist.
Aarav pulled away just enough to whisper against her lips, "Mujhe sirf yeh darr hai ki agar tu mere saath nahi rahi, toh main haar jaunga." ("I'm only afraid that if you're not with me, I'll lose.")
Ishani's heart cracked open.
She kissed him again, fiercer, pouring everything into it.
No matter what happened next—she wasn't leaving him.
Not now. Not ever.
