Outside the research facility, Nicolas stood anxiously, surrounded by a tense atmosphere that made everyone around him uneasy. No one dared approach him.
"Are there no signs from any of the research facility's exits?" Nicolas suddenly asked.
Bryan quickly responded, "No, Mr. Sawyer."
Nicolas's gaze darkened, and he muttered, "Could something have gone wrong?"
He turned to Bryan again. "Send more men from the special forces. I want the entire research facility surrounded, inside and out."
"Yes," Bryan quickly agreed.
Just then, a subordinate rushed over, reporting, "Mr. Sawyer, there's movement at the entrance."
"What?" Upon hearing this, Nicolas's heart skipped a beat, and he almost instinctively rushed toward the entrance.
"Mr. Sawyer, be careful," his team warned, as they were still unsure who it was.
But Nicolas was certain. He knew it was Noelle.
Noelle had never broken her word.
As the figure grew closer, Noelle's silhouette became clearer, and it was indeed her.
"Noelle!" Nicolas shouted, running toward her.
Noelle, still dazed and in pain, barely lifted her head, but when she heard his voice, she immediately raised her gaze.
"Nicolas," she whispered, and before she knew it, Nicolas was running toward her, enveloping her in a tight embrace.
"Noelle, you finally came out," Nicolas murmured, feeling his heart start beating again as he held her close.
Noelle gripped his clothes, the overwhelming sense of relief washing over her like a second chance at life. Sniffing, she said, "I'm out, Nicolas. I won. I won."
The two held each other for a long moment before slowly separating.
Nicolas gently wiped the blood off Noelle's face and asked with concern, "Noelle, you're hurt? The blood on your face..."
"A few light injuries, nothing too serious," Noelle reassured him, wiping the blood from her face. "And the blood on my face is from Brandon."
At the mention of Brandon, Nicolas became wary. He instinctively pulled Noelle closer, glancing back toward the research facility. "What happened to Brandon? Did he escape?"
"No..." Noelle shook her head and winked at Nicolas. "Brandon is dead. I killed him."
"Brandon is dead?" Nicolas was taken aback. He had seen Brandon's strength and never imagined someone could defeat him in a one-on-one fight.
Originally, Nicolas had planned for a scenario where Noelle and Brandon would both be injured in their duel, and then he could use the special forces to overpower Brandon. But Noelle had actually won and killed him.
Nicolas fell silent. He hadn't expected their duel to unfold in this way.
Seeing Noelle's confused and bewildered expression, Nicolas took a deep breath, then gently cupped her face and smiled warmly at her. "He probably didn't want to kill you."
"Didn't want to kill me? Why?" Noelle asked, still confused. After all, she had aimed every strike at his most lethal points. She had felt that Brandon really did want to kill her.
"Little fool, why do you think that is?" Nicolas chuckled softly. "Because Brandon loves you."
"Loves me?" Noelle's eyes widened in surprise. "Brandon said he loved me, but love should be based on equality and respect, right? He never respected me, and he wanted me to kill you and my family."
"That's true," Nicolas agreed, thinking Brandon was a madman.
He understood now that Brandon's mind didn't work like a normal person's. Even though he could have easily killed Noelle, he hesitated. For someone like Brandon, the only explanation could be that he had softened in some way—he loved her. Without love, why would he hesitate?
As Noelle said, without respect and equality, love would inevitably fall apart.
Nicolas smiled and hugged his girl, saying, "There are many ways to express love, but without a doubt, only I can give Noelle the love she truly deserves. We're destined to be together."
Hearing Nicolas's words, Noelle's confusion faded away. She smiled and embraced him tightly again, saying, "Yes, Nicolas. From now on, we'll always be together."
"Yes, we'll never be apart," he replied.
The laboratory was dismantled, and there was no one left who could control Noelle. The Anderson family would cherish their daughter who had endured so much pain, and from now on, Noelle would be happy.
With their fingers intertwined, they walked out of the research facility.
Noelle spoke softly, "Nicolas, can you help me bury Brandon's body? Even though things ended up like this between us, I still have some gratitude for him."
In the past, if it weren't for Brandon's company in the lab, she might not have lasted so long. She had always considered him her best friend.
Nicolas smiled gently, his face full of affection. "Of course."
