"Fuck," I bang my head on the seat when I can find it.
"I can't help you if you don't tell me what's happening."
"How long have you had access to my car?"
"From the moment you parked at my aunt's cafe," he chuckles. "I've got camera footage and locations. What do you need?"
"All of them and I'm going to look for them you shit," I growl looking around.
"Don't ruin my fun this early, Moonlight. Just tell me what's wrong," he chuckles darkly. I hate that the sound of him is calming me down.
"I got fired and fucking Riley stole my fucking Labubu. It has something I need stashed inside of it. I need the footage so that I can get it back," I rush out in one breath, and because the rage has passed, it's now slapping me around. I hate how everything was amplified when Vince and I reconnected. I can't hold it back anymore, and I start to cry.
"Okay, I'm on my way. Do you want anything? I can pick up whatever you want," he says sweetly.
"I'm making pizza. I set the dough before I left this morning. If you want something just bring it with you and we're going to talk about you planting these things all over the fucking place. What the fuck, Barnes?"
"Sure," he chuckles. "Sit tight, Princess,"
"Stop calling me that," I growl, but the car turns off before I finish.
I gather my things and head inside. Roman is sitting in my living room with his laptop. He sits up straight.
"Hey, what's wrong?" he says, standing up. "Did that fuck Barnes say something mean to you?"
"I got fired. The hunters voted me out, and I have to sell the shares back to the Thornes."
"You don't have to."
"I do. It's in my contract. Both Zander and I signed it. They're going to pay me a lot, but still. I fucking built this company,"
"So take it," he shrugs. "You know who likes fucking with people and hates Zander?"
"Perry," we both say at the same time.
"It'll help her get out of her head with this whole Mackenzie shit,"
"I can't believe she's gone," I agree.
"I can believe she lasted this long. There was something wrong with them. I'm glad it's not affecting Perry anymore,"
"Me too. I'm going to clean up. Barnes is on his way. That fuck hacked my car. If you're going to be doing weird shit when I'm not home, don't. I think he's in the house,"
"He can only do that with a replicator," he shakes his head.
"Yeah, he's friends with Jordan."
"All right," he laughs. "I'll be in my room. I'm taking this armchair,"
"Sure," I agree.
There are beds in the spare rooms, but that's it. I have to get everything settled before I can work on those rooms. I rush up to my room and get out of these clothes. My makeup is running down my face. My hair is a mess from my little tantrum and I think I've reached my limit again for the third time this week and it's fucking Wednesday.
-We were already thinking about it- Beverly makes herself heard for the first time in a while.
"Yeah, but I wasn't really considering it. I was just mad."
-Perhaps, but what's the harm in it now?-
"I don't know why I showed him the fucking file. I'm an idiot."
-I care for the human as much as you do. You know he's not the type. It's that little piece of domestic dog vomit, Justin Thorne.-
"Yeah, it doesn't matter. It's over."
-What if he uses the file against you?-
"I could easily do the same. Until he's officially a chairman there isn't shit he can do and I'm going to draw it out for them."
I clean my face up. I don't have the strength to put my hair up, so I end up calling Barnes so he can get something since I'm probably not going to be up for making the pizza. I get out of my clothes and I fold them neatly to place in the hamper. It's full.
A little chirp makes me smile when my cat Millie stretches her long body out from inside one of the shoe shelves.
"Millie, I thought you ran off, Baby," I coo.
She stretches her arms out so I can pick her up. As soon as I tuck her into my arms, she starts to purr and do air biscuits. I scratch her little head and take her to the room with me. I look over at the feeder to see that she has eaten today and is hydrated.
Millie is an old girl—eight. She used to be Davis Vivaldi's cat, but I couldn't bring myself to throw her out into the wild when we swept his penthouse. The Rogue King loved this thing. It was a gift he got for his mate when they were first mated. I told him it was Viking custom, and he thought it was cute.
I couldn't leave her there after what we did.
I take her over to her cat tree and go to see how gross the robot cat shit box has gotten since I brought her over here. This is the only thing I hate about her aside having to brush her big ass twice as much when things start getting warm again.
I love that she has more space to run around in. I was thinking about getting her a puppy. Something she can bully around since I'm probably going to be out more. I can have Roman train it. He loves animals. He has an Arctic wolf that he smuggled in from Canada. That thing has eaten people's faces on his command. I've seen it. Baby loves that thing.
"Millie, snackies!" I hear Baby shout from downstairs.
"Go," I set her down when she perks up. She meows all the way down the stairs. "You better not be giving her raw meat,"
"Christmas biscuits from Pet Smart," she coos. "Yummy snackies for the sweet princess,"
I roll my eyes because she's the only one who talks to her like that. With the amount of sass that thing snarks with. There's no way she's cool with it, but she puts up with it because she gets a snack.
"Just give her one or two. She already ate."
"Your mommy is a party pooper," she growls lowly. That she loves, she loves when I growl into her belly when we cuddle in the mornings.
My mind goes back to Zander Thorne. I can't help but worry about him. Even if he was somehow convinced to cut me out, he's going to be left to his snake of a brother and the insanity that his mother is going to dish out to get him and Riley to break up.
"At least he got you the car. Run, Riley Moore. Get as far as you can from here. These people will destroy you."
