Vincent
Violetta didn't take as long as I expected her to. I gave our guest a quick tour of the pack house and reviewed some of the rules with him. He said he was going to be coming with those who will be transferring here. He asked some excellent questions about what it's like here and even showed interest in our training and traditions.
"Thanks for covering for me," Vy runs over to us.
"Steve," she greets him.
"Hey, Vy," he smiles at her as if they've been friends for some time.
From what I know, Vy doesn't really like to make friends with anyone. There are times when I see my sister. The one I knew. The one who would do anything for our pack, even if it were at her expense. Every time something new comes up, it seems to affect us both.
The power coursing in me is more than enough evidence to tell me she's done things that would have gotten her kicked out of the pack here. Things she can never take back. How am I supposed to accept those things when I've only ever been taught to preserve and cherish wolf lives? I can't simply look the other way, and yet, I can't bring myself to do anything about it. I don't know what it was like for her out there and the things she's done, I doubt she did them here in the city.
"You look great. Staying away from the tequila?" she smirks.
"I've been sober for two years," he nods.
"Wow, that's amazing. Congrats," she says, hugging him.
"Thanks. What do you have for us?"
"Nate couldn't give me a couple of weeks to try and get some shit together, huh?" she rolls her eyes.
"You know how he is. He's never been one to disappoint Perry. The faster this is done, the sooner we can get the new tower up and running. The tech cargo should have arrived today."
"It did. That's where I'm coming from. Nate sent Selene and her mate. You know she's a perfectionist. Everything is going smoothly. The new lab should be running by next week."
"Sweet. I wasn't sure the Lycans were going to be on board with everything going on in Nova."
"Yeah, Perry's been keeping me updated. Can you believe Scofield let the vamps corner her and Jonas on his territory? I would have fucking rocked his ass if I were her."
"I'm surprised she didn't. Jonas has done what no wolf could have done. Perry is an asshole." the two of them laugh as she hands him a file and gives me one as well.
"These are the contracts for the company. I'm going to start looking for open apartments for the relocation. We'll provide living arrangements for the first six months or for as long as they wish to stay at the locations we offer. This is my brother. He's the alpha of the city. So, if any of them wish to make the permanent change, he's their guy."
"Holy shit, you're getting a lot of this done faster than expected," he says flipping through some of the pages. "Nate already has a few potential transfers. He'll probably look these over and get them back to you if he wants to make any changes."
"Sure, how is he doing with the whole Perry getting married shit?" she grins like she knows the answer to that.
"He's-" he pauses and looks up at her with a smirk. "He's been in love with her since they were pups in middle academy. He was devastated when she got mated to Phurry and now he's just fucking burned."
"He came off way too desperate. And Phurry was her fated. Perry never wanted someone who would bend the knee to her. She's got enough of that from everyone else. What's he going to do when he finds his real mate?"
"You didn't hear?" he asks quietly.
"What?"
"Olivia Moore in Gorgon. She rejected him." He tucks the files into his briefcase. "I heard it was brutal. I think it's the way he carries himself. Alpha through and through. There's never any room for anything else, and now that Perry expanded, he's only putting more work in front of him."
"We should have someone draw up a seriously complicated prenup for his ass because it sounds like he's going to be making a really stupid fucking mistake soon." she shakes her head. "I'll talk to the Lycan Queen about him. Maybe have her say something nice to his weird ass."
"Good call. Thank you, Alpha Wolfe, for the tour and lunch. I haven't gotten a break in a while, and you seem very passionate about your pack." he bows to me. "Vy, it's always a pleasure. I'll see you around. Thanks for making my life easier."
"Take care, Steve. Tell Val I said hey," she smiles politely. He pauses and spins around to face her.
"I forgot to tell you. I'm going to be a dad soon. A son," he says proudly.
"How the fuck do you forget to tell me something like that?" she beams and runs over to him for a hug. "Dude, congratulations. I love that for you."
"Thanks," he laughs. "We're very excited."
"Me too. Keep me updated. I'll send her some stuff."
"Sure thing," they finally say their final goodbye as we walk him out to his car.
"Success," she spins around to tap my arm with the back of her hand. "What?"
"What?" I ask.
"You have that look."
"What look?"
"What did I do? Why are you upset?" she sighs.
"I'm not upset," I admit. "Not with you. Just myself,"
"Do tell, brother. Don't leave me in suspense," she laughs.
We get back to the study, and I take a seat behind my desk. She sits across from me with her phone in her hands.
"I've always had this image of you in my head. You were always the one who kept her head down and tried her best to help others who needed it. I guess this new you is one I didn't expect. You're not who I remember."
"That makes two of us, Vince," she places her phone on the desk between us. "You were always the voice of reason. You defended all of us and took the beatings when Dad fell off the rocker, so we didn't have to. You were full of life, and you had all these amazing ideas that I to this day believe would turn Magique City around for the better. All I see now is some guy who let an old wasted piece of shit break him.
"I am different, Vince. I grew up. I had to and fast. But one thing that hasn't changed is this. I still want to save our city. I want it more than I've ever wanted anything in my life, and I am willing to bleed and die for it. That is what we swore when we split. It's the only thing that I have left. The last piece of my soul that hasn't died, and seeing you act like dad, you're breaking my heart, brother. I didn't endure what I did to watch you become like him."
