I don't feel any better as I pull up to a clearing just outside of Sin's Creek's compound. I can hear music, and the area is lit up with lights. There aren't many people, but there are enough to tell me this won't be the interaction I wanted to have with him. Before I can pull out my phone to tell him this isn't happening, I feel him moving in on me.
"Don't run," he growls.
"What part of no one can know yet wasn't clear?" I ask him and remove my helmet when he appears a few feet away.
"I need you to meet some people I trust. Those who will look out for you when you're running around the city being a little asshole, Moonlight," he sighs when I shake my head. "I trust them. With my life, and now yours."
"You don't get to decide that for me, Alpha Barnes. You can be putting me in danger. You can be putting them in danger."
He snatches the helmet out of my hands, and I laugh.
"Please," he says, holding it behind his back. "Don't make me drag you over. It'll be embarrassing for both of us, Moonlight."
"You think I won't drive this without that? I've got extreme training on these things." I scoff.
He searches my face and nods. I scream when his hand goes through the gas tank. I watch with disbelief as the gas I just paid for leaks out onto the floor. I get off the bike and go around to see the five holes he made on Baby's bike.
"You're coming," he says sternly.
"You asshole!" I growl. I shove him as hard as I can. He goes flying and hits the sequoia tree behind him. The tree shakes violently. "This is Baby's bike, fucking dickhead!"
"Fuck," he groans breathlessly. He's reaching for his chest when his wolves surround us with their guns out.
"Look at what you fucking did," I shout. "What the hell?"
"Alpha," some girl steps forward, and I reach for my gun. It's to her face before she can get any closer.
"Touch him in front of me and I'll rip your hands right off your arms," I growl at her.
"Stand down," Alpha Barnes chokes out.
It takes him a whole minute to get back on his feet, even with the help of the tree behind him. There's a groove where he hit. I didn't mean to shove him that hard, but what the fuck? What kind of idiot does that? I can't even buy her one because she built this thing out of the bikes Roman has discarded over the years. It's entirely custom, and I'm pretty sure it's also a mini tank.
"How the fuck am I supposed to fix this? I have to tell her. Do you know how temperamental royal princesses are? I can't believe you," I laugh, going back to the damage. "I'm going home now. Thank you for ruining my fucking night, Alpha Barnes."
"You almost broke my chest," he sneers.
"Oh," I nod. "Did I? The big guy got a little ouchie on his chest? Think about that the next time you try to provoke me, Arsenial. I'm not one of these little omega bitches you like to surround yourself with. You don't intimidate me."
"You're staying," he says, straightening up. His wolves all remind me they're here by raising their guns.
"I've taken out covens stronger than your wolves by myself. I'm not the one outnumbered here. When you're done swinging your dick around, you're calling Baby and telling her what you did to her bike. And then you're going to get her whatever the fuck she asks you to get." I tuck my gun away again. "I can't believe this is the second time I've pulled this out tonight without firing it. Roman might be right. I'm getting soft connected to all these fucking assholes."
"Us?" one of the guys asks.
"That's Wolfe's sister. The eldest one," the woman I almost shot says. "You were supposed to kill her."
I laugh, picking up the helmet as I follow them into the clearing. He doesn't say anything as he motions to the bonfire in the center of the clearing. A portable generator powers the lights above us. He brings over a couple of bean bags and sets them down next to one another. The others have some too. I guess these are more comfy than a regular lawn chair. I can imagine them agreeing to using these things the way my team argues over what computer parts are both flashy and the best.
I drop onto the chair and stretch, popping my back and then rotating my shoulders. They're all watching me intently, and I smile. I love it when big names like the ones present here underestimate me. This isn't an introduction to his pack. This is an introduction to his team—the part of the notorious biker gang in Magique City. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad. It would show us where we stand when I do the forbidden stuff Vince disapproves of.
"You can cut that scar on your face open and then use emerald wolfsbane to heal it fully. I'm sorry I did that to you two years ago. It was self-defense, and I was aiming for your neck," I tell her. "Samantha Conolly."
They all stand when her eyes turn red.
"Who the fuck is that?" she asks Alpha Barnes.
"You let your wolves talk to you like that?"
"You let a human talk to you like that," he immediately fires back.
"There's a difference. He doesn't know any better. They do," I fix my jacket and decide that they no longer require my attention.
"What is happening, Arsen?" one of the guys asks.
"Sit," he orders, and falls into the beanbag next to me. He leans forward to pull the collar of his t-shirt and inspect the damage on his chest. He's going to feel that all week. When they finally take a seat, he glances back at me. "You almost killed me."
"Don't be so dramatic if that leveled you as severely as it did; you need to change up your training routines to get stronger."
"You say that to your brother?"
"Yeah, I do. Him, I almost really did kill the other when I launched him into a bookshelf for picking on my sister, and he didn't complain once."
His eyes flash red, and his nostrils flare. I grin when I look around the campfire to see the others watching us, confused out of their minds. In no other scenario would this be happening. We'd be tearing each other apart if we weren't mated. I would have killed him and a whole lot of his wolves for what they did to my brother.
"Who the fuck is this?" one of the guys asks.
"Well, aren't you going to introduce me to your friends?" I glance over at him. His eyes are fixed on me. When I hold his gaze, he drops it, shaking his head.
"This is our special guest," he says, sitting up. "This is Violetta Wilde. The acting Luna of Blood Ridge and yours,"
"And ours what?" Sam demands.
"Your Luna," I answer and sit back to watch her red face pale. The only sound comes from the wood crackling. One of the guys, the bald one from the garage, stands up looking between the two of us.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me," he says. "Violetta Wilde is only four, eleven?"
"I'm five two,"
"No," they all laugh.
"Fuck you guys. I'm five, two. You can measure me. You should be embarrassed that I kicked all your asses. I still can."
"You found your mate, and you haven't told the pack?" Sam glares at him. "This is an honor, and if she's related to Wolfe, she's the stability to end the feud with Vincent."
"We can't tell the packs yet," I disagree. "My brother is against our mating and with good reason. You all killed a big portion of our hunters. Wasted lives for wasted efforts. We're not giving up the city, and you're outnumbered twelve to one now."
"Don't run," he growls.
"What part of no one can know yet wasn't clear?" I ask him and remove my helmet when he appears a few feet away.
