I could kill Vincent Wolfe Sr. right now, and I would not regret it. The only thing keeping me from going back to the pack house is waxing my little brother's car. I need to hurt something. I need a physical release, or I'm going to go crazy. Any little thing is going to set me off, and I don't want it to be someone I care about. That house brings out the worst in me and will continue to do so until I get that man the hell out of here.
The front doorbell rings, and I go over to the speaker to see who it is. Jordan. I can't see if he's with anyone else because he's tall enough to fill the camera frame. He smiles and waves at me as if he can see that I'm staring at him.
"Come around to your left. I'm in the garage," I inform him.
He disappears from the frame for a bit. He pokes his head from the side of the garage door and stops dead in his tracks when he sees the car.
"New car, Wilde?" he smiles brightly—boys and their toys.
"It's my little brother's. I'm just taking care of it for him." I shake my head.
"You're a very good sister," he smiles.
"Jordan!"
"Come around," he calls back.
"Is that the Prince?" I whisper.
"Yeah, her majesty wanted us to bring you some stuff."
"This is a strange place," James comes through the garage door pulling a hauling trolley behind him. My mood brightens when I see the new equipment from the Lycan Queen. "You got a new car?"
"It's my brother's," I repeat.
"He has good taste." he leaves the cart in front of me to go look at the car. I start inspecting the boxes.
"You smell upset," Jordan says. "Is it because your brother made you polish his car, tiny wolf girl?"
"No, my dad pissed me off. More than usual," I roll my eyes.
"Kill him. It worked for me," James smirks. I laugh, slipping the laptop box out from the pile.
"Believe me when I say, I want to more than anything," I say, tucking it under my arm so I can pull the cart over to the lift.
"Here," Jordan comes over and does it for me. "It's too small."
"The big one is over there," I point at the back elevator. I toss him my key. I close the garage door and follow them into the elevator. "How long are you guys here for?"
"A couple of days. Roy sent us to check in on your progress," James says, fiddling with his cuff. I reach out to help him. "Thank you."
"I thought Silas was in charge of that."
"He is, but he said something about you threatening to kill him the next time you saw him," Jordan grins.
"Cool. I'm glad he didn't take my threat lightly," I laugh and tap the top floor button.
"You've been busy," James says when the door opens.
"It was all Roman. I have been busy, and since he's staying here for free, I have him doing chores."
He's right, though. I gave Rome an outline of what I wanted, and he has more than delivered. Sticking to the original red oak, he's halfway to turning this empty area into the library I need it to be. I set my new laptop next to the digital scanner.
"I've been telling the Queen we need one of these in headquarters," Jordan says, caressing the sides of my holotable.
"You don't have one?" I ask, as I set up the charger. "I feel like crazy would have two right next to each other with like eighty tabs open on each one."
"Sounds like her," James snorts.
"She likes to do everything manually. The table is designed to assist, and she says she doesn't need assistance from something she created." Jordan huffs.
"Fucking nut case," James smirks.
"Most geniuses are. The only time she scares me is when she rambles weird shit."
"Me too," I agree. "The way she pieces shit together and plans in advance. It's creepy, but that's Perry."
My phone buzzes and I remember that just a few hours ago, I dropped it and threw down with my brother in front of the pack house. I pinned him and got carried away, the way my father has always treated us. I look down at the screen to see it's a location from Alpha Barnes.
"Everything okay?" Jordan asks. "If you gotta go, go. We'll set up your new toys."
"Are you sure?"
"We've got nothing better to do."
"I knew I heard the elevator moving," Roman comes in. "What's up, giants?"
"Hey, man," Jordan greets him. James just gives him a nod.
"Mind if we talk?" he asks.
"Sure, I'm on my way out," I point at the lift. I face the other two. "Don't break anything."
"Yeah, James," Jordan smiles. James flips him off.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you," Roman says as soon as we start moving.
"I know. I'm not upset with you. You're right. It's just different here. I come from a traditional upbringing, and I was able to escape it. He wasn't. And while I love what we do. The open road and jumping around, I love this more.
"I believe in what we stand for. I want to make it better so that people like us have a place to rest their heads when they want to slow down for a bit. Sometimes we have to take shit from people lesser than us. You know that better than most, sweet prince," I tip his chin. "It's no different."
"He's your brother. There shouldn't be two sides."
"He's starting to see the bigger picture, but it'll take some time for him to get there. You know what it's like to be on the receiving end of the whip. We just have to show him he can snatch it away."
"Where are you headed?"
"I have some business I have to settle. Please don't let those idiots mess up your masterpiece. It's coming along beautifully."
"Thanks, but I'm just following the blueprint."
"Don't sell it short. I just drew the picture. It's all good between us. And I got Baby in. He should be giving her the open contract by the end of the week."
"Seriously?" he smiles and hugs me. I tap his arm awkwardly. "Thank you. I mean it. For everything. I don't know where we would be without you."
